1/48 Eduard Fw 190A-4 WIP - FINISHED
Posted by Mopar Madness on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 6:43 PM

Hello friends.  So I finally got around to starting the new Eduard Fw 190A-4 and let me tell you, its a superb kit!  Thus far, I have encountered no problems and the fit and finish have been well above expectations.  A completely different experience from building their original 190's!  Wings and gear bays are next.

Pit looks great. I think Eduard realized how lousy their initial Anton series was. Watching with interest!

Nice, that cockpit looks great! Is that all out of the box, or did you add detail to it?

Howdy friends!  A quick update.  The fuselage has been closed up and the wings attached.  This is where I've ran into my first snag.  I have never made an Fw190 and had the fuselage and wings go together without issue.  No matter the manufacturer.  So, with this one, I had to get creative with the clamps.  I'm sure its builder error.  Also, the wings have a unfortunate seam along the leading edge when combined.  But, I'm still VERY pleased with this kit.  Landing gear is next.

She’s primed, sanded, masked and ready to paint!  I’ve never painted anything this intricate so I am breaking new ground!  I think I have a plan so we’ll see how it goes. My helper decided to make an appearance too.

It's looking great Chad.  I'm glad you like this kit.  I just bought it a few weeks ago, though I have a few other builds in front of it in the queue.  Looking foward to seeing how the painting goes.  I will be doing one of the other, easier schemes.  lol

Cheers, Mark

Howdy friends.  Another update for you.  This particular paint scheme is made more complicated by the fact that this 190 was painted no less than 3 different times.  The first was the factory applied camouflage, the second was a field applied camouflage of brown and green over the factory camo, and the third was a field applied camouflage of white spots for winter.  So the wings of my plane got the first coat of paint for the camo to show up under the white crosses.  Once those were done, I masked them and painted the aircraft white and applied more fuselage decales.  These will get masked and I'll add the final two coates of green and brown.

Looks good so far! Better to deal with the gaps at the leading edge than the wing root.

Be careful masking the decals. I’m nervous that the tape will pull them up. But you’ve certainly chosen a unique scheme! Looking forward to the finish!

Thank you friends!  I sealed the decals with a matte coat so, fingers crossed, they’ll be OK!  Tongue Tied

Coming along nice. I just did a similar scheme on a 109. It was challenging but I was pleased. If you reduce the tack of the tape on your hand before going over the decals you should be ok. You could also use the sticky part of a post-it note for that area. I can't wait to get my hands on this kit. I'm waiting for a cheap one to show up on ebay before I pull the trigger. I'm very patient....lol.

Howdy friends. Another quick update. The camouflage is down and the masking is up! Fortunately, all went well. This was my first time using Mr. Hobby Aqueous colors per the Eduard color guide. Wow, what a difference they make when it comes to painting camouflage patterns!  So incredibly smooth.  I’m sure they will perform just as well when it comes to mottling.  Some bits and pieces have been painted and I believe I’m in the homestretch. Thank you for looking!

Chad, That's a really attractive camo scheme which you've pulled off extremely well!

Looking forward to the finish!

Glad to see everything came out ok... someone certainly had a grand time with the spray gun out in the field!

You’ve done a great job on a unique and challenging paint job. Can’t wait to see how you tackle the next steps.

Nice camo Chad. I finally pulled the trigger on one of these on ebay. I'm thinking striped or checkered nose. Looks like your in the homestretch.
