OK everyone, I let this get by me, but I finally posted the thread in the Group Build section. I did my best to fill in the roster, but if I missed you just let me know. Also, some of you didn't tell me scale and manufacturer, so I'll update that as soon as I can. Thanks!

Hi Chris, if the plane you're building served in a spotter role, or if you're building the recce version then it certainly does count

Does my current Boomerang build count? They were used not only for ground support and strike spotting, often as strike leader for NZ Corsairs, but also for photo recce with a big camera mount behind the fuel tank in the rear fuselage (see the access panel below the roundel?)

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

I am in, I was going to do the 189, but looks like its already taken. I have the Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi ki46 Dinah sitting in my stash, so maybe I will go with that.

Hi Chad, yeah the Fw 189 would count. With all that glass, how could I argue that it wouldn't classify as a spotter? Glad to have you along!

SB - Can I contribute this fella? It was a radar equipped bloodhound for night fighter units.  It was a night fighter that can be categorized as a spotter.

I'd be glad to have you RadMax! It looks like this will be a go, I'll get the actual thread posted in the Group Build section in a few weeks.

I might be interested in joining. I’ve got an F-6B I could contribute.

Here's my TR-1A.

Humm!  I usually think of 1:144 kits of single engine aircraft as being tiny.  But the TR-1 (and even the U2) is a pretty big aircraft.  What is the wingspan of the kit?

about 8.2 inches

This is an idea I've been kicking around for a little while, and wanted to see if there was any interest.  This would be a group build focusing on photo reconnaissance, observer, or scout aircraft.  There are a lot of different kits out of there of these birds, ranging in time period from WWI to today.  I was thinking it would run for a year, but I haven't decided on any kind of a start date.  Maybe sometime this summer if others are interested?

Like SR-71 and scout helicopters like the OH-58A? I think I have a modern UAV that would fit the bill. But, I need to knock out some of my other projects first.

I would say any of those would fit Rob.  It would be great to have you on board, whenever you were able to start.  I have a few projects to finish myself as well.  I'm hoping I'll be able to start my kit on the actual start date, but we'll have to see.

I have a 1/144 Revell E2 Hawkeye I've been looking for an excuse to build. I'd join in.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

How perfect! I was just at the USAF Museum in Dayton OH yesterday and the bird i took an interst in was an RF-86F that was used to overfly Russia during the cold war. I’d never heard of this and so i did a walkaround in pictures thinking I would build one someday. That will be for this group build!

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Are there any U-2/TR-1 kits still in production, or will I have to wander around flea markets to find one?

Cool.  I just ordered the 1/144 minicraft EC-121R Constellation and the kit comes in my dads squadron the 553rd Batcats out of Korat.  Intersting mission if you care to research.  More of the ear in the sky ;)

Thanks,

John

I would! Since it's mission is to fly over the fleet and look out for trouble it fits the theme of this GB like a glove. I've been wanting a kit of this plane for awhile, and it will be cool to see someone build it up.
