They are cute when they are asleep? Guess he's worn out from all that modeling!

I haven't seen that swirly silver Monogram plastic in ages.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I While Ezra naps, I decided to work on a wing for assembly.  With landing gear attached, the wing was slowly moved onto the fueselauge.  This is Definately one way to get the wings glued on correctly!  Lol!  With the Tamiya stand offsetting the PBJ one wing.  I won’t have to worry about a droopping wing!

I have here a progress session from Ezra and I.  We used Tamiya White Putty and sanded things down very nicely.  As you can see, very little putty was used.  I had to adjust the alignment as well as using frog tape to hold things together.

After a couple short sessions, it was outside to play with a bubble making machine.  Then lunch and a nap!  Lol!

Just caught up on this. Talk about a blast from the past. I built that kit back in the 70s.

Thank you sir, I’m very glad you’ve remembered your time from the past.  As well as the time you’ll maybe spend in the future.

Here we have the PBJ resting and Ezra having a great time with this build.  We both utilized a mask as we were going to sand down the Mitchell! Unfortunately he fell asleep while eating Lunch.  Lol.  After placing the Putty on he wanted to go to the park.  He played a lot and got tired, hence his inability to stay up.

Looking good, Tosh! Interested in how you tackle the exterior paint job!

I‘ve been utilizing a can spray as a primer of what you see below.  Then I will add in the main color of which will or might be a Vallehjo Model color or a MM Olive Drab.  Thank you sir for stopping by asking a question of my builds.  I’m most humbled.

Looking good Toshi! It's been a while (won't say how long but it could be measured in decades) since I built that kit (mine was a gun nose bird that either succumbed to enemy fire in the backyard or went in the trash when we moved, probably the former). Nice of Monogram to give you plenty of space between the cockpit and nose gear for a big ol' honkin piece of noseweight. I, like the rest of the guys and gals, look forward to more Ezra and Toshi adventures.

Thank you lewbud!  I too built the Monogram B-25 (Gun Nose).  I built mines in the early-mid seventies.   That would be one of my first bombers.  As a kid, I remember going to Holiday Mart a local grocery store and looking at all of the Monogram and Revell kits!  How simple life was then.

Here‘s where some work was done by me.  I did not include Master Ezra in this detail painting.  I will have him do a wash with the Tamiya Weatherin Kit.

A nice clean MM Zinc Green Chromate AB with Ezra.  I used my NEO TRN1 Pistol Grip AB.  It not only is comfortable but is easy for Ezra to hold it in his hand while I hold his hand and squeeze the trigger for the release of paint.  I’m teaching him the technique to use clean and even strokes.  For now, I adjust the amount of paint released.  I also purchased paint mask for the both of us.  I might let him use the Tamiya Weatherine System Kit.  I’ll put gloves and a mask on him and just let him go at it by himself.  That’ll be next up.  Weathering and utilizing a wash to take care of the interior.  Also now to detail.

M. Brindos

It's been a while since the last time I filled one of your builds, Toshi. And now you have an apprentice?

I've missed much!

How the heck are you, my friend?

I’m doing just fantastic!  Life is good!  How are you my brother?  I am so excited to hear from you!!!  Recently, Mrs.Toshi‘s Brain started to swell again due to her removal of the tumor.  So she is doing chemo therapy now.  She has two more sessions and I’m hoping and praying that all goes well.  So far everything looks good so I’m very optimistic!

Please take a look and take the time out to visit my and Ezra (My Padwan Learner) thread of the Trumpeter 1/32 TBF Avenger.  I feel it came out really good and it got positive reviews from FSM Members.  I started to understand the blending of colors and how to handle the AB better. I still go back to the tutorial you did for me on my Abram‘s tank build.  The weathering on the Avenger build in my very humble opinion is really getting there.  I still need many more years to get to the level of having a build printed in FSM Magazine, but I did send photos in for a chance to have the Avenger posted in the digital FSM Forum‘s Gallery.

As for my apprentice Padwan Learner Ezra, my grandson he started to ask me questions on my finished builds and was intrigued in all of the WWII and jet aircraft hanging on my wall of fame.  He’s going to be three years old in July.  All he asks is that why, why, and what’s that questions.  Lol!  He started with hand brush painting, using Tamiya Extra Thin Cement, and now he’s AB with my help.  He did build the Torpedo and AB it almost by himself on the Avenger build.  That lesson was cut sprue (Yes, he can use my Tamiya cutters), sand, glue, tape with frog tape and Tamiya tape, wait to get glue to cure, sand again, primer, then AB.  It came out very nicely.  Being only almost three his attention span is short.  So we watch cartoons on my iPad while building a kit.  It works out really well.

As for myself, I’ve gotten ill a few times but was able to recover.  I’m still in therapy and taking pain medication.  I’m still in pain but am able to build kits and keep up with my grandson.  The shaking of my hands has gone away I think due to building kits.  It has helped me greatly.  Mrs. Toshi and I try to get out to movies and restraunt dates.  We’ve gone out with Ezra out to Ashtabula for visits with Mrs. Toshi’s older sister and have Ezra go exploring the forest and do a little fishing.  Trying to get Mrs. Toshi‘s mind off the Chemo Therapy is challenging but can be overcome.

Monogram molds are really showing their age.  I built a 2009 re-issue of their SBD recently and most of the details were just little chunks and blobs.  I still had a 1967 issue I built over forty years ago and the same details are crisp.

The fit between the two kits is also noticable.  The old kit went well enough for the ten year old to make a nice model of it.  The 2009 version needs clamps, sanding, and a bunch of colorful language to make it go together.

Yes, I do see the difference and as I build the ”Old School” kit, there are decent fitted areas.  Some minor putty and of course the ubiquitous sanding of seams.  But nonetheless a great kit overall and once again, a big thank you to eagle90 for this kit!  And thanks to scottrc for always supporting my WIP!

Ahh!  Viola!!  The second sign of a differentiation.  First, styrene color.  Second, the older kit has electronic radio equipment with nice details.  Third, in some areas the reissue mold has less impression as I assume the molds are worn out like my Monogram Black Widow build compared to the Revell reissue.

The top empty fueselauge is the original older kit of which has a almost metallic sheen.  The reissue kit has just a dull gray steel look.  Besides these differences, everything else seems identical at this point.  As usual, Ezra and I will continue to keep everyone up to date.

Should be good, Toshi!

Have you thought about HK models' B-25 Mitchell in 1/32?

Yes, I’ve seen the offerings from HK Models.  Impressive to say the least.
