Looks great! The covers you restored with sheet styrene- great idea.

Thanks! Yeah I do that all the time. It may not be accurate but it looks when finished.

Thanks Gary. Sent it to me, I’ll build it....Whistling

Most of my builds as of late are commissions. This one however was just a subject I’ve wanted to do and a test bed for the AK paints. I rarely keep my builds. I’m weird I guess. I just put it on eBay if you want to buy it....Wink

Wish I could afford it (either mailing the kit or buying the finished version)! Big Smile

Lawdog,

Another excellent build!  I have that 262 in the stash, but will probably just toss it as I could never come close to the perfection you've shown here!  Wink

BTW, I'm sure you've answered this elsewhere, but what do you do with all the models you finish up?  I know you do some commission builds, but what about the others?  Just curious.

Joe - Thanks for the details on fading and AK paints, very clear explanation. I can see just what you meant in the photos, I'll be trying that on my next build.

The 262 looks just great, another fine one for the logbook.

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. Give it a try.

Fantastic finish Joe.  I really like the sublte weathering and the contrast with the AK colors.  Can't wait to try them.  They are scheduled to arrive today.

Thanks. Robert. Your going to love them.

Looks fantastic and I like the choice of markings - being the first jet kill.  I'll have to add one of these to the stash.

I finally finished this one up.  It's in the markings of Alfred Schreiber's "White 4" (Werk #130017).  I know it's not the usual Galland, Barr, or Novotny, but I tend to enjoy paying homage to the lesser known pilots with a cool story.  In Schreiber's case, he is widely regarded as having the first kill from a jet in history.  In July of 1944, he shot down a recon Mosquito in this machine. He would claim 5 kills before being killed on November of 1944 in a landing accident.

The kit was outstanding and typical Tamiya.  The only issues I had was the fit of the nose panels and the windscreen which was a tad small. Other than PE in the pit, it was out of the box.  As I previously discussed, I primarily used the AK Real Colors Luftwaffe set and must say I love them.  I had zero orange peeling on this kit.  Markings were painted on and washes were a mix of Flory and AK Interactive streaking fluid.  I went for subtle as I suspect these had little chance to become weather beaten.

I will definitely be doing another one soon.

Thanks for following.....

Hi, Joe - Your usual excellent work presented here, thanks for all that you do for us with your so helpful posts.

I should probably know, but don't, what is meant by "fading." You mentioned using Tamiya with the AK, would you please mention a bit of what the process is?

I'm going to try AK, does it come in just one formula like lacquer base, or is there another, like water base also?

Thanks a bunch, Joe.

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. Fading means I add a lighter color to the original paint color to fade out the paint, to simulate sun fading. I just spray the center of the panels randomly until I like the effect i want. In this case, I added Tamiya white to the 75 and since the 74 is more of a green, I used Tamiya buff (Never add white to green, it won’t look right).

I think all of the AK real color stuff is the same, lacquer based, but it can be mixed with acrylics. I had no trouble. Also, I had no orange peel at all using this stuff, even at the wing roots which has been problematic the past.  I’m definitely a huge fan.

Thanks for dropping in bud....

Mopar Madness

Nice.  I’ve tried that, but inevitably what should be a straight line will be painted in at awkward angle! Maybe if I lay down and adjacent piece of tape that might help me with my site lines. Good job.

Yeah, it takes practice. I get in close with low pressure. Thanks again....
