Laid down the base camouflage of Model Air RLM 70/71 and 65 underneath. 1.5 hours of masking for 10 minutes worth of spraying! These splinter camouflage liveries are not my friend. Tongue Tied When the base coats had time to cure I added a drop of RLM 05 yellow to each topside color and toned down the 70 and 71 for a very rough post shade.  Normally I’d use white for tint but this is a Mediterranean bird so I feel yellow was the better choice. FYI...  The blue backdrop makes it look more faded than it really is. It will look much better when the sand yellow is the primary color. Now it’s time to overspray everything with RLM 79 sand yellow!

Hello friends.  I was VERY disappointed in the quality of the pics for this update but I sealed everything up prior to my usual QC so I didn’t have the opportunity to retake the pics.  Never again. The interior is wrapped up and the fuselage is sealed up.  Not much in the way of difficulty here, just take your time and test fit because Airfix can surprise you with the occasional shifted mold or thick plastic part that needs sanding.

Nice. I have their B-1 in the stash. I hear some of the canopies are molded weird, I don't remember. I'll be paying attention to this.

I just hope they bring it to this side of the Pond, i would deffinetly travel to see that. Its being built as an R-4 so i doubt it will have the siren fitted.

Looking forward to this one Chad. Quick question though. The pic of the real aircraft does show the Tropical air filter. On the new Airfix 72nd B-2 kit you don't get the option of the filter, even thouhg the markings supplied are both for Trop versions. Do you get a choice of filters for this kit.

Be aware, those books all cover later versions, so you will notice some differances.

They did their research! The Trop filter is an option.

Thats good to know, i wish they had done that on the 72nd kit.

If you ever visit Chicago make sure that you go to the Museum of Science and Industry. They  have a Stuka, sans wheel spats,  hangind from the ceiling. It is being chased by a Spitfire also hanging from the ceiling. According to the museum, it is one of two surviving Stukas in the world. Also, make sure that you see the German U-boat on display.

Here is a video describing how the museum restored the plane in 2015:

They are almost correct. The other complete Stuka is at the RAF museum in Hendon. But one is being restored to flying condition useing parts from 2 aircraft. There are also several wrecked aircraft on display.

Thanks,

1/48 Airfix Ju87 B2 Stuka *WIP* - FINISHED
Posted by Mopar Madness on Friday, August 9, 2019 6:35 PM
Hello friends.  I’ve seen this one sitting in the stash for the last time.  Its time to build this bird!  The subject for this WIP will be the Airfix 1/48 Ju87 B2 Stuka in Mediterranean livery from Libya 1942.   This Stuka belonged to Sturzkampfgeschwader 2 “Immelmann”.  The original paint was the traditional 70/71/65 scheme.  The aircraft was then sprayed with a camouflage coat of RLM 79 Sandgelb in the field.  The kit is my least favorite styrene offered from Aitfix which consist of the stiffer dark gray plastic.  Time to crack open the reference materials and get going.  Thanks for looking!
