Judging by the 1/32 Beaufighter recently featured in FSM the invasion stripes are wide and bold.

The stripes would be 18" each, although it's a multi-engine it is similar in that way to the P-38.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I do wonder about D-Day invasion stripes on a desert scheme.

I saw a photo in a magazine. Of a beau painted like that Might not be accurate.
Maybe not. But you may want to see if the invasion of Sicily had invasion stripes required.
With a north African paint scheme, you may get lucky enough to be somewhat accurate.
Otherwise, just go with it because you like it lol. It really only matters to you in the end.

Looks so cool I went with it rather than the boring black
Put the invasion stripes into baggies and made paper engine shields to prevent overspray when painting the cowlings.
Being a Guns N Roses fan I just couldnt resist!
