I tried to get some better shots outside tonight. Somewhat better. I think in the end though I was a little too heavy with the top coat of grimey black and splotches of tire black. Next time even less of a covering would show off the weathering better.

The designers at Revell in the 80's must have been all about the action! In it's neutral state the landing gear are set for, wait for it, a landing Who does this? Crazy ***. I am wishing I'd spent more time and checked this out before I painted. That'll teach me to always build planes in-flight.
Working this 1 wheel at a time after about 30 minutes of test fitting and manipulating the gear. I have the 1st one sitting square. This was the easier of the two. In the back you can see the angle I have left to correct on the 2nd one. I can sit it square but the plastic strut is bending just slightly so it needs some more trimming.

chad can’t believe you’ve seen one! Although I think i was a sr in high school when this came out and I had other things than models on my mind, so no surprise I don’t remember it being released lol
mr brindos thanks buddy! I’m working on decals now and Hoping to keep this looking good. Can’t tell you how scared i am about messing up the final flat coat given how well it’s looking now.

This is not a kit you see very often. I haven't seen more than a few since they came out. I ended up with one at a vendor's table one contest for under 10.00 and after an examination and some thought, turned it into a science fiction subject, the Vulcan III.
At the moment the bottom looks better than the top. Had trouble with my flat coat and am going to redo it. In the mean time here’s my rendition so far...
Lots of progress tonight. Grimey black (nato black) top coat is on. Just dusted it with tire black for some additional weathering at the end. Only the bottom has flat coat on it so I’ll show that for my update. The flat reall brings it all together. the MCW paint i use is all gloss. crazy how the look changes with the flat applied. Check it out...
Crazy thing is I missed a seam on that little bob-tail out back on the fuselage DANG! So Sunday I’ll fix that up and then i can finish painting. Dang things the grand canyon. Not sure how i missed it.
You can make some pretty small cuts withthe Silhouette. These things come off the kabuki paper easy but they are a pain to get off your finger! These access panel markings came out better than expected

I tried to combine what I see on the real B-2 and the smoother lines of the Revell kit. iv used tire black on the leading edge and on the RAM panels. Then to set off the RAM panels I applied satin gloss, 20% flat so not super shiny. Off to RenFest for the afternoon now. Once it’s dry then the RAM panels have to be covered back up and the surrounding masking removed. ..which means the top coat goes on tonight or tomorrow. Still a long way s from done tho.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is an even better movie. Klaatu's resurrection at the end was changed by the censors to be "only temporary". He, who took on the alias Mr. Carpenter during his time on earth.
SciFi in its day was a very good way of expressing angst and concern about the future.

Didn't get anything done I wanted to yesterday, including bench time. Today I did have some time to show some progress. Quite a bit on painting done. I'm working on masks for different sections of the fuselage, like walkways RAM panels, and access hatches. Way too tired though so going to call it quits at this stage...
I did some experimenting first.
The top of this panel is mottled with navy sea blue, dark ghost grey and gloss black then top coated with grimy black.
Next down is some ram panels I was playing with, satin black and then a pearl coat over the satin to see what they look like. Don't like either one. This set is also with the gunship grey called out as the FS color. I prefer the black bomber so not going to do this. Worthwhile experiment for sure.
Next down is mottled with dark ghost grey and gloss black then top coated with grimy black.
Bottom section is the same mottling but top coated with tire black. This is going to be tough to use. I just sprayed over it quickly and it covered up all the mottling. Another experiment that was worthwhile.

WotW a movie I’ve never seen. Maybe I’ll have to check that out. funny having grown up in that era that i never had an interest in watching it. Too busy with models maybe?

the original version of War of the worlds! With Michael renny. Not sure when it came out 1956? it's one of my favorite sitting at the bench working movies to have running.
My F-in-Law flew one of the earliest black projects- the Northrop P-61. That was so guarded that when they had an airfield wreck or a heavily damaged on, at least in the MTO; it was hauled away and scrapped and a new one was issued.
I always liked the F-117. It actually worked the way it was meant to.
Kelly Johnson is one of my aviation heroes, and I have a few.
I know I weighed in earlier, that is a nice model to build. You should look around for a AMT Northrop Flying Wing, the genesis of that design.

That F-117 is really weird. Always reminded me of a cub scout pinewood derby car. You know the ones where you know dad didn’t build it and parts are added on wherever creative genius felt like it.

Some of those early models of stealth planes certainly didn't look like the real thing though. Still cool aircraft models. The first time I saw a 117 I thought it was a dressed up cartoon in Avaition Weekly Magazine.
What’s really missing from this shot is all the action. Imagine these clamps slipping off the curved surfaces at random intervals and either hitting me in the face or launching across the room

Just lots of sanding and prep work still. If this were just going on my shelf I wouldn't bother as most is underneath the plane but I think it's a good OOB kit to take to a show or 2. Fairly unique and I have to say the fit has been really good. Wait till you see the wing joint. Amazing fit and the dang thing is 10" long.
So here's the landing gear. primered lightly because too many times I clean them up only to find a hidden line AFTER the primer gets layed down.
A plethora of accessories.6 cruise missiles I think. The rest is all landing gear and doors. Done for the night. Time for a cold one and then regroup on this tomorrow.
