OV-10A Bronco Cal Fire build COMPLETE
Posted by keavdog on Saturday, November 2, 2019 2:01 AM

I did a huge conversion on the S2T CalFire and now I'm doing the OV-10A Command bird.

Sticking with the 1/72 scale I  was a little dissapointed that the only decals are for the older livery but, hey - no worries.

So converting the military version to the Cal Fire requires carving off the ordanace capabilities.  Minor modification compared to the S2T.  Anyhow, under construction.

Cutting off the War stuff

Getting the bird togehter

Thanks,

John

Hi,

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this build.  I really enjoy seeing planes and such in less common markings, and firefighting markings look especially interesting.

Keavdog, which OV-10 kit? I was going to do the same build with the Testors 1/48 OV-10 but I sold the kit with the Cal Fire decals. I'd like to do it in 1/72 scale, well, because that the size I have room for.

Fotofrank,

The kit is the Academy OV-10. Revell Germany just issued a reboxing.

Yes, this is the academy kit.  Minor fit issues.  The plastic is very soft and easy to sand.  Decals are from Draw.

Thanks,

Working through some filling and sanding.  Getting there.  A bit concerned about the multipart canopy...

Thanks,

Put the gloss white down a bit heavy.  And then the red - I hate red/white... worst combo to paint unless you add some yellow.  Anyhow - had some good masking and some bad.  Wing tips are solid.  Vertical stabilizers have bleed and I masked the top at the wrong angle.  Yay, something to fix :/   anyhow - fix this then it's gear, decals and canopy so making progress

Thanks,

John

It's going to be a pretty one.  I have a picture on my phone that a friend texted me of a row of them, just showing the tails over at McClellan.  Can't figure out how to send it to my computer.

Cool pic john.  I grew up about a mile from mclellan afb, my dad's last duty before returning.

The only decals available are for the older scheme.  Same paint job but the newer scheme has the cool font.

Thanks,

John

Calling this one done.  There's a winshield wiper on the windscreen that just tanks the whole glass.  Ah well, it's done and looks good with its sister.

Thanks,

John

Well done, John.  I can't see the winshield wiper from here.  It will  look real good in the display case.

Howdy, "keavdog"...

Beautiful, Beautiful work and finished displays! I live 1/4 mile from a CalFire Base in Fresno, CA... My home is directly under the glide path for the USAF Air Nat'l Guard's 144th Attack Squadron's 24 F-15s, Lemoore's F-18s, Edwards AFB's F-35s, US Army's Blackhawks, Cobras... and CalFire's KC- 10s, OV-10s, Various Helicopters - And the Revered P2v Neptunes and S-2 Trackers - which I used to watch - my face pressed against the chain-link fence at the US Naval Station as they were operational as Real Sub-Hunters during The Viet-Nam War, and The Cold War...

YOUR DISPLAYS are absolutely Perfect... and Beautiful! I've got a question for you, Sir; Where can I find the decals for the CalFire 1/48 S-2? -Your models are AWESOME, my friend!
