Alot of the damage was self-induced. After stepping away from modelling for a year, I forgot alot of the small steps.

This came out looking very nice Beav It may not be a prize winner (in your opinion, as you never know what the competition will be), but it sure is a long way from a paint and glue bomb. I bet that it will look mighty fine on your display shelf.

The best part of the whole build is the fact that dispite the problems you encountered, you like the finished product. That's what counts. Job well done.

PS - I lost count of the number of times I broke off the antenna and landing gear on my 1/72. I now leave them off all builds until there is nothing left to do.

For all it's issues, I am happy with it. It will join the only other model not on the shelf in the basement, an ICM T-35 Russian tank. Both major pains to build, but like the results.

For all of the dodgey issues with this kit, you turned out a very nicely done model. That's part of the satisfaction of a good looking finished model, when you know it was difficult at just about every step.
I've thought for years, that fixing these problems makes us more capable modelers as we progress. Nice work, thanks for the details and photos.

Still don't know how to properly put on the landing gear. The instructions were vague at best and pre-fitting was a pain and revealed nothing. So with some styrene shims and superglue I made it work.
Even with all of it's flaws, touchups, repainting, etc...I am happy with it. Wouldn't even get me a Participation Ribbon at a show, if I ever did a show.(I am the cowardly lion)

The decals with the kit are useless. First attempt tore and the second would not even release off sheet. I canniblilized decals from a Sturmavik kit. Did a little weathering and chipping. I suck at it so I do very little. the chip under the canopy occured naturally.(fell off stupid Tamiya stand many, many times)
So much easier to do a pin wash on a tank than a white plane....ANGRY FACE EMOJI!!
btw...My next project will be to make a paint stand.
The red on the wings turned out pretty good. Light kinda looks bad in the pics. Took some artistic license with the paint job. According to directions they should be 2/3rds red. Too much for me. Kind of going for a Reno Air Races look. Also the prop hub should not be blue....but it looks good." target="">

Mig-3 is done. A pain in the a#$ but a fun and challenging build, almost to the point of insanity. One of those if I knew then what I knew now kind of builds. I would like another crack at it." target="">
Thought I'd take a quick pic because there's still a good chance it gets boomeranged into a wall if I break another MG or antenae. Just some minor weathering and touch up left. Red part of the wings are very reflective. I'll try to take better pictures tomorrow when I call this Mig done.

No Progress!! Why? Painting white sucks! Trying to do a pin wash to bring out detail sucks! I am trying to keep it as clean as possible. It came so close to getting boomeranged into a wall. Lessons learned.
1. I will never AB white again...Krylon!!! No runs, no drips, no errors.
2. I need better and newer paintbrushes.
Looks like it will take awhile to paint. Never painted this much white before and it's going to take a couple of coats. The rain in O-H-I-O is not helping. I was hoping to be done this weekend. Not going to happen.
Primed is always a good point. That means painting is next!

Primed yesterday...re-priming today after I just fixed some spots.
You have persevered! The model is looking really good. Engine sure looks nice from here, Hope you're able to make the cowl work given all the other fixes I bet it comes out nicer than expected!

Man, this little Mig sure looks to be fighting you at every step! But you’re wing those fights.
i can’t wait to see some paint on it.
Masking done! Pretty basic, with just a few curves. The 3 pieces of glass went together great with just a little sanding to get them to attach perfectly to the fuselage. Very pleased with the fit of the canopy. Tomorrow primer and finishing the landing gear. Next time you see the Mig it will be done. Hopefully, by next weekend.
Drilled some holes for the MGs and had to do some sanding on the cowlings because they were not flush with the fuselage. A little overlap, not a big deal. Bye rivet detail, you will be missed.
Good news though. Just looked at the canopy pieces and they are probably going to be the easiest I have ever had to mask. Yeah Me!!!
Things that only happen to me. I know my eyes are going and can no longer plumb putts like I used to. I know I need reading glasses, but I swear when I went to bed last night, those MG indentations on the cowlings were perfectly flush.
Looks like you are really fixing up that kit and learning at the same time. I think it's going to turn out OK. Looking forward to seeing the completion of it.

...And here is what I thought was a short shot of the wing, but is actually intended so the wing halves do not appear too thick. Hope you can see it. Pretty much the same on the other wing, just a little different, which is why I thought it was a short shot. Now on to masking...
The tiny gap was an easy fill with a little styrene, Tamiya Extra Thin, and PPP.
