Andrew, I hadn't brush painted an airplane in over thirty years, so this was a definite refresher course on that lost skill. It takes more time to apply the paint, but there is far less cleaning afterwards, so time wise they balance out somewhat. But as much as I do like 109s, I have a soft spot for these Russian fighters.
Chad, I did indeed brush paint the whole thing. Up close you can tell from the texture of the paint. I feel ya about the cleaning of the airbrush taking the wind out of your sails. I get that too.
So here it is, all finished in a bit over 80 hours. Hobbycraft’s 1/48 La-5FN built OOB. I did modify a few parts with files or filler here and there, but nothing beyond that. I also used the kit decals, which surprisingly worked very well.
Now it’s all packaged up for travel to my great nephew and delivery to him over the weekend
