Checkered pattern looks really cool.  Love the various metal tones.  Looking forward to seeing what you build next.

Thanks wp. Just may do another NMF subject next.

What an excellent tribute to a real war horse, perfectly done and beautiful. In the natural sunlight the finish just looks so realistic, all of the time you spent making this model surely paid off.

Thanks for all of your posts, construction details and photos. I have some Alclad, never used it, now I'll give it a try, hoping to get results such as yours.

Great job, Ernie.

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. I think Alclad is a winner with metallic tones, you will likebusing them.

Photographed the Mustang out in natural light this morning to capture some of the Alclad metallic reflectivity that is present but subtle consistent with weathering in an operational combat aircraft.

Mary is finally completed. The yellow stripes on the iron bombs were hand painted. I may add a standing pilot later on just to add some interest in the vignette.

Hi, PJ -

I've been watching this one as it progresses, it just keeps going to another level of build quality. This one is outstanding, added details like the brake and aux. fuel tank lines add so much realism, it looks like it oughta fire up and taxi away.

Thanks for another great post and photos.

So the kit has extra tanks and some nice 500 lb. bombs that would look good in a vignette setting so I had an old picture frame to use for the base, some Sculptamold and water to make a tarmac. Taped up the edges to protect the wood.

The Sculptamold was mixed and poured, smoothed out and expansion joints added.

Then craft acrylics were used to paint and drybrush the tarmac. Oil stains were added.

Figuring out positioning things. The disposible paper tanks and bombs need paint and decals.

Brake lines were also added to the main landing gear.

CB and fox thanks.

This is how my parts look. Notice the distortion in the circled areas. The front windshield panel is very wavy. The distortion is not noticeable at a quick glance but a closer look reveals the imperfections.

The windshield side panels look good.

Mine is the same. Super Angry

Best,

Nikola

Wing tanks mounted and hoses added from discarded electrical wires.

MR TOM SCHRY

plasticjunkie, I'm sorry if I missed it in an earlier post, but what paint do you use for your bare metal finish?  Your finish is absolutely stunning!

tjs

Thanks Tom. I used Alclad polished aluminum but surface prep is a must.  This what I do: I do not use any putty as a filler but if needed I use melted plastic and Plasti Weld to melt the join area. Then polish the plastic with sanding sticks and Novus2. For high shine colors I shoot gloss black enamel and polish with Novus to a mirror shine after curing. Then lightly build up the metal tone stopping when a hint of black is peeking out. This is what gives the Alclad the depth and realistic metallic tone. The surface must be like glass and free of any defects cause the Alclad will magnify the defects specially finger prints.

The wings were shot with Floquil Old Silver but looked very close to the Alclad color so I sprayed some Humbrol silver enamel over the Floquil to get a better painted on look as the Mustang's wings were silvered lacquered and not NMF except a couple of panels, flaps and ailerons.
I also sprayed AK Gauzy Shine Enhancer to protect the delicate high shine color during handling and masking.

EDIT:  Forgot to mention I sprayed several panels dark gloss grey and dark gloss blue to get some tonal differences between panels. Very subtle but efficient.
