rds1 - the people who flew, maintained, and supported the aircraft in the Aleutians during WW II went through a lot of hardships. I have a documentary on tape that shows their living conditions and weather "occurrances." When you see what they went without, it makes you appreciate what you take for granted.

this is a really beautiful model. thank you. now i want to get on the net and find out about Aleutian Tiger unit(s). Man - that's the trap of the forum for me - i learn about so many interesting planes/units/events - that i end up spending hours a week researching and reading and browsing the histories...

anyway - gorgeous plane.

salbando - I've seen the video of P-39s and B-24s landing on waterlogged airstrips in Alaska. I can only imagine the hardships they had to endure.

blackcat - the reason you don't see seams is because I found them first. Just a little basic skills.

Simon - I'll have pics of the Airfix Mosquito in a couple days (or sooner). One wheel well is scratchbuilt, the other is nearing completion.

Modelling as an art form and yes you can take the credit. Hasegawa and Eduard may have produced some excellent material but they were just a number of parts before you caressed them (is that too strong!! Mischief [:-,]

) into shape. Just one request.............can you please now get back to the Mossie!!

Once again, excellent bird Bill.

Yeah, the Aleution Campaign is something near and dear to me especially since I'm based in Alaska as a SAR dude. I often get to go out on the chain and see the places these pilots and ground crews had to operate out of. After you experience the weather and think about the lack of Navaids and support, you really get a strong appreciation of what those folks had to deal with. Weather brought down more aircraft than did hostile fire in the Aleutions.

If our Ops Tempo ever slows down my plan is to build (in 1/48) all of the aircraft used during this campaign to include a few dioramas. I can only hopw to do as good a job as you did. Thumbs Up [tup]

I really can't take credit. Hasegawa did a great job on the kit, and Eduard's PE is top notch. It was a joy to build & detail, and a pleasure to share it with you.

Brian - I've also found a supplier of model paint in HUGE bottles

Mike - OD/NG can be very boring, so I wanted a little color on it. I need to build one of the P-40s with the skull also !

salbando - Eduard gives almost no info on the decal sheet except for location and year. That's where I got it, so it's their error. No biggie.

Outstanding!!! I've also got one in the works (when and if I ever get the time).

One thing though...they were never stationed on the island of Kiska although a flight of four actually landed on the deserted Japanese airstrip there, shortly before the US/Canadian forces landed. The Lt got his butt chewed out for that and went on to get two more kills while flying P-47s in the ETO. He then became an ace flying F-86s in Korea.
The 11th FS was stationed at Umnak, Adak, Cold Bay, Amchitka and Shemya at one time or another during the Aleution Campaign.

hobby - the only plumbing I added that you can see in these pics is the yellow hoses. There are more pics in my build article: http://www.pix.prettyneatinc.com/p40build.htm There are twop more lines, and a PE box which you can't see from the angles of these pics.

wing_nut - I put some assembly suggestions in my build article that might aid the build. Check them out, if you want.

A really good 1/48 P-40E kit has been a long time coming, and I think this one was worth the wait. I need to get more of these ! I also need to build Hasegawa's Rufe to keep this bird company.
