Hey woody,
Thanks for the kind words my friend!! Ya I have always liked the Dewoitine and thought that this scheme would be unique since the only photo that I saw was in the "In Action" book.
As always I did my research and found one other pic simular to the one in book mentioned above.
I'll try to post other angles of this bird as soon as I get a chance.

Very nice Mr. Butz. I've always had a soft spot for the less recognized fighters of WWII. You have done that little French fighter justice. I too wouldn't mind to see a couple more angles of your clean build. Cool [8D]

Tough aint it[:0]
Instead of your "normal" preshading technique why dont you try this maybe?
You dont have to put down a base coat of "scale black"(also good for shading,natural shadowing) or anything but first put down the darkest colour(if not mistaken, it would be the green).
From there go on and put down your light colour. Buy doing this, it will assist you w/ your shading.
I know the norm(or for some the correct way) is to paint light to dark but as you can tell I like to do things w/ a twist Tongue [:P]

This will also help you blend in the colors(soft edge). Y you ask because as you lay down you lighter color, it will take more to build up the true color and by this you will have a less chance of over spray to appear(if you have the right paint to thinner ratio).
Basically this will help you out in your natural weathering.
O by the way, I kinda like this scheme as well even though it is a restored bird.

oooh! look at those awesome tiger shots!!! mike you rock! i'm leaning toward PH Defender just because i want to try out this technique of preshading, and if i paint the tiger camo, you wont be able to see the preshading...but...shark mouth? c'mon! how do you pass up that?! sigh. tough call.

as to your dewoitine, i'm with keyworth got any more photos?

Ya know that would be a tose up?????? What I would do, if you have any reference material on the P-40, go through em and see what scheme you like the best.
If it were up to me I would do both schemes but the Flying Tigers bird would be first on my list Tongue [:P]

Oooooh, check out the big shiny photo! Very nice! I really like the color of the body of the plane. It's such a pretty blue-grey. And since you asked mike, I'm in the middle of building p-40b. Debating about whether to paint it up like a flying tiger or standard army pearl harbor defender. Any thoughts?

Very nice Plane Mike, congrats, the paint looks great and also the Dio looks very realistic, can you tell me how did you make that diorama? i would like to try to do something like that (diorama), and please can you explain me what is a smudge wash?? is that the kind of wash where you paint all the panel lines in black first and then apply a light coat of paint??

The weather is hot and wet. We have had rain everyday for the last seven weeks. I now have lake front property just outside my front door.

The model room is nice and cool and dry. Spend a lot of my time in there as it is too wet do do any thing outside.

"Smudge Wash"
Hey colin,
Want to know about the "smudge wash" do ya?? Well here it goes in a nut shell.
First off your model has to have a gloss coat to work smoothly. Once you have let the gloss coat dry for a day or two, now you can proceed w/ the wash.
I use a water based paint usually dark gray or scale black and use distilled water as my thinner as you could say.
The ratio of paint to distilled water is up to you. I have a tendency to go a lil more w/ the distilled water.
Once the wash is made, I then start to apply this method with a fine artist brush.
I target any kind of detail such as landing gear,wheel wells, panel lines and what ever else I see fit.
I usually wait 5-10 minutes, then I go back over the areas that I have applied the wash to and wipe off any access wash with a soft moist towel(bathing cloth).
You may repete the process as many times as you like or till you get the desired look Wink [;)]

The process to doing the wash may seem a little tediuos but the final results are pretty impressive. Well at least I think so but then again 5 out of 4 voices agree w/ me Tongue [:P]

Another great looking bird butz. That canopy is almost like it's not even there. I just screwed up the canopy to my f-18 a couple of days ago, gonna have to order a new one. I seem to get more and more impressed with a good canopy the more I try to fool with them. Very good job all around, keep up the good work, and keep posting pics for me to be jealous of.
