I had been looking for one of these on and off for a couple of years, when I saw one in the LHS that I had adopted as a second home while living on Okinawa.  It's a 1/48 Revell/Hasegawa (both logos are on the box) and one of these days I'll get her built and marked as a USMC Intruder.  Then I'll have to get an A-4 and F-4 to go alongside her.  I went home, grabbed the yen jar and drove right back there and bought it!

I paid 3200 yen for mine.  I think that works out to about $30US depending on what the exchange rate was that week.

Hi Airmaster.  Sorry I didn't check your post last week.  I saw both the A-6 and F-8 at Model Fiesta XVI down in San Antonio this past weekend.

Myself and a couple others will have a table at the Tulsa IPMS show next month.  I have a Monogram F-8.  I think the seat may have been started, and a few pieces off the sprue, but other than that, its in good shape.  Let me know if you are interested, and I can put your name on it.

ah yes, the elusive Trumpeter 1/32 A-6...  Would certainly fulfill a lot of wishes, but we haven't heard anything on it for close to a year. Is it EVER going to be released or is it just another urban legend?  

I have opted to buy an old vintage ESCI 1/48 F-8E Crusader over an A-6 Intruder over at Evilbay. I do have a bid down for a Revell 1/48 A-6E but I'm going to let it slip away. If anyone would like to go out bid me here is the link.

This is by no means a deal. Looking at it now, 12:30 am on Tuesday morning, the price is $33, and there have already been 8 bids on it. There are also 3 days still left of bidding!! I'd be willing to bet that this ones goes well up past the $50 mark, at least.

I too am frustrated with auctions like these, and I can see the topic-starter's point about having these popular kits out of production. But rest assured, one of two things will happen: you will get lucky and find one cheap, or it will be re-released. It is only a matter of time dictating which happens first.

Case in point, the Monogram 1/48 EA-6B Prowler has long been on my wish list. By some miracle, I found one in my LHS on the bottom shelf in mint condition for $27. When I got home and looked up what it was going for on ebay? Yep, $55. So I did get lucky -- check out the local hobby shops, you never know when a gem will pop up.

Finally, there have been rumors of an impending re-release of the Intruder & Prowler kits by Revell-Monogram. Lending credibility to these rumors is the fact that Superscale has just released two brand-new EA-6B decal sheets AND Meteor has just begun to market a set of resin intake trunks for the kits as well........
I'd say things are looking good for seeing the kits back on the shelves sometime soon.

If you are referring to my post above, I think if you read it again you will find we are in agreement that the Italeri kits are very good (and the Fujimi is pretty good too).  It is only the Hasegawa kit that I don't hold in high esteem, because I spent so much time trying to make one look like an A-6E!  Here is the Hasegawa kit, with added bits in the cockpit, much sanding and polishing on the canopy, and many hours of filling and sanding.

The A-6 Intruder was always negelected by model manufatures. I have an old Detail Scale book on it that was printed in 1987 and the only kits at that time were 1/100th scale Tamiya, 1/72 Hasegawa, and 1/48 Fujumi A-6A. Since then the Monogram/Revell 1/48, Italeri and Fujumi 1/72 kits have came out. I always thought it was unusual that at that time the A-6 was in service almost 25 years (at that time 1987) and only a few kits. I always liked the A-6 although not the prettiest aircraft it was very good at what it did and did it along time ad a Vetern of many conflicts. Maybe some one will release an new 1/48 scale kit (It will still be over $30, no matter who would make it) or reissue Monogram-kit.

I just built my 1/72 A-6E (Hasegawa kit in Revell box from 1988 came in a box with a 1/72 F-105, been in my collection since then) and it is not a very good kit like others mentioned. A sign of better times as back then I got the both A-6 and F-105 for only $5.99 at K-mart. My has the cost of the hobby changed.

Revell/Monogram done this before with the Intruder kits and it's frustrating as all blazes! I was able to buy an EA-6B before they dissapeared the last time they were released, just wish I had bought the A-6E and EA-6A version at that time. One can save up their pennies for the upcoming release of the 1/32nd A-6 from Trumpeter.

It really BITES that model makers discontinue popular kits like the A-6 and F-8. They are classic warbirds now. Seems to me they are using same marketing strategy Walt Disney did, re-release every 8 years to cater to a whole new audience. Ironicly most are adults who built the kits as kids anyway. Funny aint it.

I admit I am disappointed but I will keep looking.

There was a fair amount of that on the Matchbox kit also, I guess if you want an FJ-4 that's just the way it is.  Yours looks nice on your shelf, so I think you did very well with the problems.

On Topic, a few messages up there is mention of the Fujimi and some other kits of the A-6, other than Airfix (a poor kit) and Revell Monogram which are the only 1/48 Intruder/Prowler kits, these other kits are 1/72.  The Fujimi and Italeri kits are pretty good, the Hasegawa kits are best to run from, pretty minimal cockpit and the canopy is off shape, and hard to deal with because it is 2 part.

No, its the Pheonix kit. That thing is a pain in the 6 kit, a lot of hacking and sanding.

Well Revell-O-Gram Had released the A-6E, EA-6A, and EA-6B and the F-8E (I think Revell Germany is going to re-release this in a few months) but sorry they haven't been in production for a couple of years now and more than likely when your not intrested in those kits then they'll re-release them (That's how it seams to go for me) the ESCI (AMT, Italeri) kits are few and far inbetween and really have no interior details like the Revell-o-Grams or Hasegawa's but you might find on on EVILBAY, like the others, and Fujimi (And Testors) released an A-6A & EA-6A a few years back but they too could be found on EVILBAY, so your best bet is E-Bay on getting those old Monogram (now Revell) kits

 I bought mine when the movie came out. The one with Danny Glover. I think it was called Night of the Intruder. I have it in my stash. Sorry tho I can't part with it, one of my favorites. 1/48 Revell. I also have the the 1/48 Revell F-8E Crusader, can't part with that either. If you do find these let me know how much you paid. I'm just curious. Just curious, like I said these are some of my favorites that I could never part with.

Sarge,  It's not that easy when you model on a budget. I'm certainly not rich and I just do not have $30 or $40.00 to slap down on a model when the urge hits me. Good for you that you can, but I cant.

I'll just bide my time and wait and hope I get lucky.

I'm not so sure I'd trust the seller. He has no picture of the kit, no description of kits contents and his start bid price is way to high when other like kits are lower. I think I will pass this on that A-6 kit, I just dont trust it. Thanks for the heads up anyway. I'll keep looking.
