Just wondering if anyone has done a underwater plane wreck?. I have been given photos of a pby5 catalina just of darwin shore in australia that was shoot down during the bombing of peal harbor. I want to do a under water model of this catalina as my great grand dad was a pilot.

To clarify.....a PBY-5 was shot down off Darwin......while the Pearl attack was happening? That would've been December 8th in Darwin, technically.

I'd love to see the photos.

I suppose it was possible on that date.

I realize that this is not an aircraft, but it might give you an idea for your project:

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Back when I was a kid (1970's) Monogram had a photo pictorial of an AMAZING ocean themed diorama inside the box of their TBD-1 Devastator featuring their Devastator.

It had a ditched Devastator with one wing partially submerged with crew members helping a wounded guy into a rubber raft as they came down the wing... IT WAS COMPLETELY AWESOME (and I rarely use that adjective).

I'd be suprised if those photos couldn't be found by looking around a bit on the internet...

Does anybody here remember that one? Dang mind blowing. (in my opinion)

I remember that Diorama...one of my favorites..I think you can find it in Shep Paine's book "How to make Dioramas"  Ive got it backed away somewhere...that was like my bible when I started this modeling adventure....I even tried to replicate it with a downed Japanese Kate using resin for water...Didnt turn out too bad...but the resin just about burned out all my nose hairs!!!Yuck [yuck]

I saw it (Shep's Devastator) up close and personal.  It was on display at King's Hobby Shop in Austin, TX for a while, back in the '80s...

Found this link for some of Shep's Monogram work on pdf.. (Sorry, no TBD)

Don't forget that when and if you have a boat or figure in the "water" that'll be visible above and below the waterline, to remove the "water's" thickness from it.  I did a water rescue dio with a "floating pilot" once upon a time in the Plexiglass box-stlye and forgetting to point the pilot's toes down in the "water" cost me a trophy...  (They weren't kidding about "attention to detail"... )

Mine, the waters' surface was made from a piece cut from a shower door, painted, and placed on top of a clear plexiglass box set on top of a "Sea" floor.
