Did this Tiger II about twenty years ago and excuse the missing headlight and rather krappy look of the vehicle. But I have a silly question here- added the gouge marks to the front armour plate and wondering how it looks- overdone???

tigerman - Not sure as I don't have first hand knowledge of the standard kit. I would assume that many of the parts are the same as many of the Panther kits. It looks as though this has twice as many parts as will be used... There is a sheet of PE, aluminum barrel, some metal side skirts, some clear vision port parts and 1-piece tracks. Plastic quality and detail of the parts is similar to current Smart Kits I have (non Panther). So appears to be a standard kit with some goodies thrown in? I'll post a pic of the sprues, etc. when I get started.

Looking forward to the GB as it will be my 1st.

Seems similar to the Panther A Premium (which I still can't score on ebay), except for the DS tracks. the Premium had the magic tracks.

That's a nice effort Cliff. I do think the gouge is too straight in and deep. Remember, the armor was about 6-8 inches thick. It should make a scooped gouge, kind of like an ice cream scooper in a carton of ice cream.

From everything I've read, there is no know documented picture of a King Tiger's frontal armor being penetrated!

Greg: You should see the T34 that made the gouges- I'm not sure what Russian for 'splattered across the landscape is...'

Eric: Thanks, tried this years ago when I first started building tanks after reading Shep Paine's book on building AFVs. Just took Dad's electric drill and BAM!!!

Went back and reread Paine's book and yeah the edges should be scooped up more as you said like ice cream or as I was thinking the raised edges on a moon crater. I have a Dremel motor-tool now with a cutting head that I think would work better than a simple drill bit.

I was thinking the same thing- neat way of showing how impenetrable the front armour on one of these monsters was! I was kicking around the idea of doing it to the Dragon kit, if I don't like it I can always cover it over when I add the zimmerit.

Eric, can you add me to the list with the subject being a Tunisian Tiger I.  Haven't decided which scale, but am leaning towards 1/35 so I can add a figure or two.

The gouges on the front of that King Tiger do look deep.  The front hull plate is 150mm thick.  If calculations are correct, scaling that down in 1/35 is only 4.28mm and then adding a 50 degree slope.    I'm not all that techi on this sort of thing, but when a shell impacts the armour, is there more compression happening then actual bulging out of the metal plate on the other side (maybe more so on thicker armor?)?

Hi Eric, yes the 1/48 kit I have is Tamiya.  The other is Cyber-Hobby 's 1/35 Tunisian Tiger 3 in1.  It was a limited run and back then I think I paid about  $70 - can't remember if that included  shipping.  Just checked ebay and there is one listed for $500

$500, i think even i would be tempted to sell, maybe. That got me curious and i woundered how much any of my 3 CH kits would go for. The only one i found was the Wittmann Tiger which the seller want £160 for but no one seems interested.

Uh, just 5 day so to go boys. This GB snuck up me! Like i said, I doubt I will get anything done this week, but by next Sunday, I should be gluing axles to the hull.

I expect to ab able to start towards the end of Sept. Really looking forward to this GB.

I won't be starting till late September or October.  I have the next 4 weekends planned out.  But, I just ordered in an Iwata Smart Jet compressor.  I needed to have a quiter compressor.  Don't want  to wake the kids and make my wife PO'd.

Looking forward to getting back into building and trying out my new photo tent.

Wow, this thing is almost starting! I'm kind of frustrated with my current build, so I'll have something else to work on to help even things out (or make me a lot more frustrated). So excited!

I'm really looking forwards to this one as well guys and I now have everything I need to get going on the weekend.

haha, wish I could, but I couldn't even if I wanted to. I might be able to squeeze 1/2 -1hr per night during the easier stuff.

Small  update. I went through the sprues and noticed it does come with late dampers for the latter style mufflers. I will be doing that version.
