wayne, does it have the Flak 37 or Flak 41 guns. From what I know, there were 3 prototypes, originally armed with Flak 37's. In 44 they were re armed with 41,s but then one was changed back to a 37 and this was send to Italy, so that would not qualify. But I am not sure what happened to the other 2. I will do some digging into that.

I can count on 1 hand the number if tracked vehicle kits I've done so will prolly be asking alot of questions. First, the kit I have comes with vynal treads. Since the Stug IV was built on a panzer IV chasis would the same tracks be used as that of the Panzer?

Thought I would bump this one up and remind everyone we are exactly 2 weeks from D-day. The Allies seems to be getting all of the lime light (who says German armour gets all the attention) so I need to try and re dress the balance and get things back in their proper order.

O, nice. be glad to see this one built. I am curious about the colour this should be. I am taking a guess that it would not be the same OD that the Allies used, or would that be wrong.

The kit looks good in the box, if it goes together as well as the Tiger it should be a quick and easy build.

I thought I'd hit her with a slightly 'off' shade of olive drab. Can't see much weathering on these vehicles though since they didn't last very long.  

No, not a lot of wear and tear. I wasn't sure if the Germans would have used one of their own greens or reproduced OD, which I guess would not have been to difficult.

Not sure, I read an article years ago, not sure if it was in FSM or elsewhere about a guy who modified a Panther with scratchbuild parts before the Dragon kit came out. He mixed up some paint, I may have to search for the article though I think he just added some green or something to the OD paint just so was a touch off.

I'll probably just try painting the thing like the box cover painting- it looks 'right' to me.

I would like to get in on this GB with this 88 Flak 36/37. My WWII knowledge is iffy at best. My historical basis for this is operation Market garden and the defense of Nijmegen. I have found reference to the German defense from what is called "the traffic circle" with "an anti-tank gun" in one place, and "... an 88-mm gun on the traffic circle" in another. I have not found (yet) more specific information on the gun.

If you don't think this is an appropriate kit, let me know.

This version of th 88 was used throughout the war. The 88 used in your reference could be one of several gun types, but this version is certainly a possibility.

But I am not all that strict, if there's a slight chance I will always say yes. So unless someone comes up with evidence to the contrary, its in. Besides, I am a sucker for an 88. I recently built a 1/18th Flak 36 and there have been a few other 88's built recently, including Eagle who is just wrapping one up for the Duck Hunter GB.

Well since I have to build this for our AMPS Chapter Panther GB, can I enter it on here? Tamiya's 1/48 Panther G. It will be OOB.

I haven't thought too much on the paint scheme yet. I would like for it to be as accurate as possible. Since I have plenty of time I can wait on the painting until I can research it out as best I can and acquire an airbrush.

Also, If I can get some pretty good reference material, I would like to do it as a diorama.

No, not dedicated to Nijmegen at all. I was reading up on post D-Day battles and zoned in on Market Garden. I am up for anything really.

the older TAMIYA 88 is popular. i am working on the bunker for DUCK HUNTERS and have another in the stash plus a DRAGON one. and i'm doing a GRILLE SPAA for this since it has the correct 88 per bish's research.

Well here another option. This is from just inside the Belgium border during Market Garden. Looks like a Flak 36 to me, and a pretty nice dio idea, maybe a couple of British squaddies looking it over.

I will add your build to the roster in a bit, along with stik's and waynes, just got to pop out for a bit.

Cliff, I think you've got three choices for an overall colour:

-1) German olive green

-2) home brewed olive mix,  by combining the two usual German camou paints (olive green and brown)

-3) captured American paint (least likely?)

I haven't found any proof as to what was actually used, and impossible to tell from period b/w photos.

Hey Jack, thanks! I was leaning toward 2 - just seems more probable to me, unless someone had better evidence to go one of the other directions.

I would go for option 2 as well. I think the German green is just to different from OD it would have raised eyebrows even at a distance. I don't think the Germans would have wanted allied troops to close, but they would have needed to pass as Allied armour at a glance at least.

Same here, I'd go option 2 - should be a fun mini project painting up some swatches to determine a suitable paint mix.

One thing to look out for are the recognition stars.  In some photos they look not quite perfect.

Well at least now if I build her at the same time I do the Sherman 'Jumbo' for the companion GB I can just paint and preshade them both at the same time!  

Guys, to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, the GB will officially begin at the exact time of the first Allied troops hitting the beaches. That was 06.30 CEST when US troops landed at Omaha. That is 05.30 UK time and 00.30 in New York.

So if anyone is still up and about and ready to start there build, you may go ahead at that time.

BTW: Did anyone else watch the D-Day in HD special on the History Channel the other night. Pretty good but I loved that they threw in two or three shots of T-34s!!! 

And they kept going on about the Germans bringing up deadly Tiger units- and then showed a profusion of shots of Panthers, Panzer IVs, Stugs, even a few Wespes but not a single Tiger!?! Is it that hard to find some stock footage of a Tiger I!?!
