MaxSheridan That is awsome. I still have the one i built years ago, but looks now where near as good as that. And your right about the figure, once he is done he doesn't sit well on the bike.

One word of advice, be very careful with the stand. Mine broke not long after i built it, and i have had to repair it loads of times since.

Thanks Bish! I know what you mean about the stand. Right now, I have a bottle supporting the front end 'cause its so bouncy without it.Big Smile [:D]

I put mine the other way round, and it did sit ok. Though i do have the figure on which might help. But the narrow neck has broke loads of times, now my bike points up in the sky like an aircraft takeing off. I might try to get hold of another one and see if i can do a better job. Those speeders are awesome.

sorry that I havn't been around. I'll update pg 1 for all of you, but not yet. Baseball game tonight. Anyway, with that speeder bike, it's a matter of repeated filling and sanding. It'll take you a while to get it, but it looks pretty good once the work is over. LAter.

Thought I'd check in...

See some really nice stuff going on here...good job to everyone!  I enjoy seeing the pics.

My own progress has slowed a bit due to work but I am plugging along.  I rolled around the idea of sanding off some detail on the wings of my TIE and removing the guns from the wing tips and scratchbuiliding them back on but decided NAAAAHHHH...the molded detail is actually decent.  I did drill down into the guns to make them look more like gun barrels.  There were a lot of "pinmarks" (I think thats what their called) on the wings, just a bit of sanding and filling...there were two spots that were real pains...I could not sand and didn't feel like filling, which would lead to sanding; sooooo I added some "detail"...I will never tell where; it'll be my secret.  Whistling [:-^]

Anyway, uh..getting close to painting, I think I am going to add (or remove in this case) a tip off a wing as my pilot experinced a close call, which will allow me to practice some scorch marks when I weather it in the end.

Laters...

Well got the parts washed up and finally got to the store to get some 5 min epoxy.  So here it is on its base.  Ill primer it tonight then start more work on it this week.  The wing has a cut down safty pin glued into it then to the base.

Not sure how to paint it yet.  May just give it the classic Tie paint.

ssgkopp --That thing is cool...I was thinking about your paint;  Since it is an "experimental" what if you took some inspiration from some actual experimental/test/prototype (whatever) aircraft.  You know how a lot of times they have some red, orange or even yellow oddball markings.  Though I don't know exactly how or where you'd apply them, I guess your really only limited by your imagination.  Maybe the ball with the cannon could be a different color and the rest classic paint...hmmm.  Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Wow this was on page two........

Well got some paint tonight.  To bad it took three times as much time to mask this baby then it did tho paint and remove masks. Gave it a regular TIE look. Used tamiya neutral grey and some flat white.

Start the oil washes tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well folks I got some time this morning to start the weathering.  I started with a black pastel wash and it did not seem dark enough for me so I hit the Tie with a black oil wash to really make the detail pop.  I primered the gun with black paint and just use Tamiya weathering trays Blue hue to give it some color. ill finish up the cockpit later.  I coated it with future and needs to cure awhile.

Thanks for looking

My bad for not updating page 1 for all of you guys. I've been REALLY busy these last weeks, and I apologize for the inconvience. To jump-start me, all who have finished and do not have their build on page 1 (Except Lewbud, I'm getting your pic ready) could you please re-post your favorite one? Thanks for helping out.

I started with a pastel wash but it was not dark enough for me. So I hit it with an oil wash and let it set for about ten minutes.  I used a cloth and wiped from front to rear to the excess off.  Yesturday I hit with some Tamiya pastel  weathering kits and the detail really pop. ill add pics later.

Nice work from the rest of you!!!!!

Oil wash, pretty much what it sounds like. Thinned paint, usually oils, applied to the part. dark stuff goes into the recesses, and the high points get highlighte.d

You would use that over an acrylic base, correct?

oil wash over acrylic is fine. YOu would use an acrylic wash over an enamel paint job and you can use a pastel wash over both.

A pastel wash is like an acrylic one.  I use water, a small amount of dish soap and then the paint or pastel till i get the darkness i want.
