Paying bills and buying groceries mostly Guy. Was up late last night trying to make up for lost bench time. Got the first coat of Rlm o2 zapped on. Hard to get all the angles and shoulda painted the parts first. Oh well I knew better and now I must repent! LOL!  You can see some of the bare spots caused by the deep resin walls but that is a minor issue and easy fix.

Shoulda painted the side wall for cosmetics eh?

Anyways  Speaking of being all the way from England I got an E-mail this AM that a package has been shipped and prepareing to cross the Atlantic to arrive in Sunny Texas by the  11th of Dec.

This is my super secret project! It should qualify as this Multi Gb's most insane entry!  I will say it was Sir Bondoman that has inspired me to go for it!  I am so apprehensive about it's safe arrival I am keeping tight security on it's Identity until it actually arrives!

What can i say about all that resin. Lets just say i messed myself, quite royally. After you mentioned you had the engine set, i went surfing the net to find a piccy of the finished article. WOW. Aaron, with your skills, we are in for a treat.

Bondo, i want one of those 81's for my stash. As soon as poss, get some shots up of the thing.

All that resin is looking very impressive Aaron!!! Hehe just have to ask, wouldn't two big clamshell bombbay doors like the Lancaster have been easier????? Over engineered I'd say, but I'm not an engineer. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Thanks Sir Bondo and SC!  I was feeling lonely you know? Had One heck of a week myself I am afraid. Let us say the worst has passed for all of us and the sun is breaking though.

Hacking things up brutally at the moment. I had a lot of practice learning from the Fonderie Minatures kits so they are good for something. I can move quickly because I have tackled similar battles but I will try to share the methods to my madness.  If you like em use them if not ignore me.

Using the stone grinding sharping tool made for mower blades and garden tools. I took my dremel and ground down all the casting blocks until the walls were paper thin. So thin the paint on the other side actually shows through with light behind it. This was necessary as the instructions simply say cut off the doors from the MPM part and drop fit the bombay in. It is never that easy.

The resin blocks I left on the pit were also in the way so I had to  thin it with it glued in place. Very challenging.

Got a pretty good system down for venting the resin dust now. So I don't breath and cover myself with the stuff. Still wore a dust mask though. Really have too! Goes all over.

To cut off the rather thickly molded Bomb doors I carefully and patiently scribed along the panel lines slowly scoring the plastic. Then using some good sharp cutters  made some angled cuts. This contols the cut and breakage relieving the pressure on the side you want to be flat and smooth. Then I simply bent the doors inward and snapped them off. A quick touch up with a sanding stick and I have opened the spot for the bombay.

Now comes the test fit. I taped the fuse together loosely to make sure I can drop fit this thing inside. It fits well enough I can get it right with a minimal clean up.

What's important is it does not interfere with the joining of the fuse halfs!

Looking real purdy. Things like adding the bomb doors and lttle brittle guns and such will have to wait until almost the end.  I just see me breaking them repeatedly otherwise as I am somewhat heavy handed.

Lots of resin doors to add 3 on each side and 6 in the middle. Whats that like 12?

Pretty well to the point where I have to add the gun chamber under the pit and in the tail then I can join up the fuse  and start on the wing work!

SC! I also got the Eduard PE superset for this kit. Lots of great stuff there as well. Some duplicates but reallyimpressive exterior things like antenna and pe fans for the front of the engine Nacills that will really make them sing!

Those are some impresive goodies there Sarge. That model is going to weigh a ton with all of that resin stuffed in it.

Bondo I can't wait to see the Sm 81. I might have to add one of those to my Regia stash.

Isn't CMK great? I got the flugenbootengeshleppenpanzercarten deal yesterday. Lots of big casting blocks to saw off, but it's a really nice unit. Oh and yahoo the sm 81 too! Today I went to the LHS and picked up a bottle of MM Radome Tan, which Stormo sez be the right shade of Ivory for the paint scheme. It's a really beautiful model, has a new sprue of fuse halves that have scalloped fabric sides. Both Piaggio and Alfa engines and cowls. One reason I've been modeleing so feverishly is that Saturday morning is the beginning of Christmas tree weekend, which is generally a lot of upfront work by me stringing lights.

Looks great Aaron, and while I was at the LHS I saw a rack of those wing spars for 177s and 200s. Laser cut basswood? WTF? Nothing someone couldn't create with an old shingle and a KA-Bar right?

What over 24 hours and not a peep!  Wowzers!  I didn't think this group could be so quiet a bunch!  Well I am overdue for an update!  So here is where I am.

Finally finished step zero!  Wow what a step it was. Not really still have some painting to do but the parts are together! Party [party]

The High Tech set is worth the extra doe IMO as comparison with the original kit parts is like  Comparing a NY Strip steak to a Big Mac.  The Parts really detail it out. Maddening but the efforts look so good if even so small. Been using Frank's optivisor a lot which is new ground for me.

The Machine gun cooler perforated barrels are tiny. Bending them around the brittle resin barrels is next to impossible with out snapping the barrel. After snapping the 1st one I bent them around a drill bit good and tight then snapped them in place on the resin barrel,  Tricky but it worked.  Then I rolled it on that old hunk of steel to get it round and tight before securing the ends.

The Highlite of my day was my parts arrived 8PM this evening.  Look at the amount of resin to create a bomb bay!

Detail and quality of the CMK resin is top notch. 18 separate bomb hangers in 3 rows of six. Could you scatch this? Maybe but the time needed would be prohibiting.

Get the main parts together and your bomb bay looks like this!

The Engine and gear bays are evn cooler. As this is a multiengine build I felt as if it would be a sin not to show the Unique double DB 610 engine that was such a source of grief for the Greif!

I was going to add the plumbing as Chuk did on his Me-410 but it is already included in this set as is the exhaust and gear bay for the opposite wing. A very detailed firewall for both All I had to get was the resin wheels. ( 4 of them)

Look at the detail on the engine just makes you drool doesn't it Guy? I said blimey me self!

I would  model Guy but my optivisor doesn't magnify enough to get all the small details I would need. Blush [:I] Nope Guy talking major surgery on both the Engine and Bombay as they are molded solid.  The bright part is the doors  for both are replaced with resin ones to give me a little wiggle room!

Aaron, that looks like you are going to have your seriously full with all those goodies. Do enough hatches come up in order for you to see all that resin loveliness? That bomb bay looks to die for. As for your secrecy over your next one. Come on you, you can tell me, ill keep a secret.

SC, NP my friend. Its my favourite brand of brew. A surprise for you and your fam to enjoy when it arrives. As for you cockpits, Send em over. I only charge 4p and hour. Ill do it cheaper for mates LOL.

Sound a bit chilly there Sean! Its cloudy and 61 degrees here on the Conneticut coastline. I have the window open enjoying the fresh air as a type.

Sarge you would'nt happen to be building a model of Guy would you? I am sure by now somw one has made a short run kit of the model makeing god from Blighty who exhuled manly mojo to the extreme! I mean he is fron England like you said.Big Smile [:D]

Guy glad to hear the tea is on the way. I plan on sharing it with the family on Xmas. My Pops is a tea drinker too being that he is 100% Irish. I am really looking foward to receiving it. The 290 is really looking good. You really know how to deal with all of those little cockpit parts and make them come to life. I always have a tough time with thoses tiny cockpit parts. I think I'll start sending you my cockpits to build and then install them.Big Smile [:D] Kind of like a sub-contractor!

Guy - As always your york is Top Notch ! They do make a spar for that kit that sells for around $15.00 Shock [:O] I have a hard enough time shelling out for extras that will be seen and not hidden away...

It is a cold one here at my place  15* outside according to the thermometer

Guy she is looking just grand! Bravo! Those seats do indeed look comfy. Could use a nap in one.  Catching up a bit on the He-177. Hopefully by Friday all the parts will have arrived for it. Then I'll give her what for! Adding the bombay and such! Looking forward to the engine and wheel bay looks fun!

click to close

Now with the exhaulted ones permission. After I finish up the He-177 I have just ordered another kit that will be perfect for the Multi GB!  I hesistate to mention it as I really want to have it on my bench before I say I can do it!  Has to come all the way from England you know?

Ive been a busy old beaver this morning. As well as getting SC's Tea off, Ive managed to lighten and highlight the cockpit of the JU. Im happy with it now...Ish. The rear seats are in, and damn comfy they look too. As an interest, did you know when Watsons Whizzers had this plane flown back to the states from France (By a German Crew) It beat the, then, current trans-atlantic crossing time, by an Hour!!!,

As my Mojo was seemingly going in the right direction i attacked the HS 293's,

as another bit of interest, i read that a german condor crew were trying out the fritzy's (While still in development) over a Dutch inlet, where there was a scrapped german freighter. From launch height, one of the Radio controllers could get the thing through a specific doorway on the deck!!!! Not bad for 1940's technology LOL.

Theres also Sh1t loads of glazing on this thing. 1st round of future,

More soon,

Jeremy - Those are some really Nice builds you got hanging around there... What else do you have in your collection your not showing us ?

HK-  Wow~wee that is one pretty aircraft. I think the camo looks way better hard-lined, but then again thats the only way I am able to replicate it myself...  Anyway it would be a real shame for the rest of the world if you dont submit this for the "readers gallery"

Guy -  Back to your old tricks again making magic...  Looking good there you "sprue stretcher" Wink [;)]

Well I am still making forward progress on the Condor, although less pics are being taken due to my messy space I dont want to clean up..

I made up several wing spars and the one that worked best was the most simple... Sigh [sigh]

Using a piece of 1/4" square basswood  (R/C stuff) cut to the length of 12" and an  epoxy mixing stick (popsicle stick to you warm weather dwellers)  works out perfect. No more flex and it fits very well. I have had the wings on and off so many times to check and doublecheck dihedral and have found no problems. So the next step will be to epoxy or C/A them in place..

Photobucket As I am confident of the spar Thumbs Up [tup]

Guy looks like you have shrugged off thoses home owner blue and got right down to buisness. We all know how fast you can crank out thoses single engine fighter. I am interested in seeing how long this beastie is going to take you to finish and no cheating by having Sarge come over with his pot of coffee and pulling an all-nighter! You better not let me catch you smoking either young man!

I went into the stash last night and had to rearange one of my stash piles because the Do 217 was on the bottom of the piles with the lid slightly crushed in. A quick look at the sprues and the parts look pretty nice. There are not a huge amount of parts for the cockpit which you can not see much of anyway. The only forseeable problem area I can see is the wing to fuselage joint. The upper wing panel continues down and into the fuselage. If these seams do not line up good it is going to make for a difficult seam to fill. Other than that it looks like a pretty nice kit. Now I am going to have to choses between the version that carried the "Fritz" guided missle with the standard splinter camo or the one with the cool light gray wavy line over splinter camo pattern and external drop tanks. I will have my camre back this weekend so I can post pics of both choices.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I doubt there will be another reggie though as I don't have anything else in the stash or decal pile for it. Currently have a couple of other modeling commitments that I need to fill too. Everyone here has been turning out some wonderful work though, and it makes me want to built a CANT or something else. Great stuff guys!
If I find time to do anything else it'll probably be a single engine fighter with only ONE wing. LMAO

Shooter, that is absolutely gorgeous. Well worth the wait. I too love the hand paionted look of the thing and wouldnt do anything to change it. Spot on. If you get the chance pop back and see how were doing. Maybe even pull a Reggy from the stash Whistling [:-^] Ill ammend the front page.

Ive been attacking the JU-290. Sort of got over my doldrums as there is a chance (Not holding my breath) that we may still get the house. Anyhoo, the RCR PE set is fairly good if a little expensive for what you get and addresses a few bits and bobs in the cockpit,

Here are the front sectioned bits with a bit of colour on them. And no, i dont smoke, thats my sprue stretcher!!

Heres a couple after the 1st stage of detailing. Its only mocked up as i want to give it some more. Its too dark to my eye. Im going to lighten it here and there and do a bit of drybrushing,

Wow hkshooter I think the Cr32 came out great. I know how difficult the Classic Airframes kits are to build. I have build 3 of them this year so far. They take extra time and work but they are usally the one choice for most of thier kits in 1/48 scale. Do'nt say to much about it because I sent Guy one awhile back and if he hears how hard it was he might not build it.Big Smile [:D]

I agree HK that  good ol fashioned paint job is da bomb! Looks terrific to me!  I also think it adds to it more than a softer edged camo would have.  A brear of a kit but you should be proud to say you whipped it!  Only 8 months? Man if your name was Frank that would be a speed build! Shock [:O]Laugh [(-D] Sorry Frank it is the 1st of the month which is the unofficial pick on the XO day!

Ok Jeremy! I have the ultimate solution for your exhaust issue! It's very Italian and unique!

Don't laugh and hear me out as this works!  Go get you some spagetti or angel hair pasta.  ( Bet that is handy cuz I even have that!)  Boil up a bit al dente. Run cold water on it and cut some even small pieces.  Lay them across an ink pen pencil marker extc or even the enging nacielle if you want a custom shape.  Hey it washes off.  and let them dry out.  Usually only takes a day or 2 down these parts.

Then when dry simply carve out the appropriate final shape and even drill out the ends.  Coat the entire part with some clear coat varnish or thin CA to seal it and harden it.  When painted it really looks like a resin exhaust especially if you need multiple different sized ones.

I used this technique when I found some old dried up spagetti in a teenagers room! Yuck [yuck]

I was able to enhance the old Revell zero's engine using the Tamita kit as a guide.  It really looked sharp.   So there is a possible italian solution!

As with all my suggestions it is followed with the appropriate warning about not trying this at home.  I have years of professional experience messing things up! LOL!  But it can work and cost very little to try!
