Monthly catch up time : )
Julez – Fuselage has good detailing, looks real nice. May I suggest using a lighter background for the pic? Will make it easier for us to steal ideas from your build lol nice build so far…and now I see the finished product! Congrats, beautiful bird in hand.
Suppresion fire – really nice work on both the build and the WIP. I am a newbie of sorts, like to see techniques up close and personal! Again, really nice job on the pit… my next P51, I will try and add lots of pit detailing, not for this one, I am not good enough yet : )
Mike/TB379 – congrats on your PhD! At least only took you a month to come back to modeling, took me 15+ years after my PhD lol
I restarted my Revell P51Ds (one for this GB), hope to finish on time.. will be posting pics later this week.
And yes, sign me up for NMF II for sure : ) cheers
Jmart hope you make it as I would love to post a few more finished pictures on the front page.
Theuns that looks like a very nice build, thanks for sharing it with us. Were you planning on joining us for round two of this group would like to have you ya know.
Randy So many to build.......So little time
vetteman42,
Looking forward to NMF II! Another year should be enough time for me to 'git R done' Thanks again for a very successful Group Build!
Jmart,
My scratch building techniques and detailing are more time consuming than skill. The basics are if its wood, use wood! If its round, wire or styrene stock is rounder! If not the right diameter a 3/8" variable speed drill can be used like a lathe. Next time when your at the LHS pick up some styrene basic shapes, once you start I caution it becomes a hobby in itself!
Everyone,
Excellent NMF builds, see you all in NMF II!

Yup Scratch building becomes very addictive I can vouch for that.
The NMF round 2 front page is up heres the link

Thanx ,yes I would like to join.
I have just started a 1/48 EE Lightning that actually is Natural metal finnish
Dumb question, I found this groupe purely by accedent, is there a direct link on the main page or somewhere?
Thanx for the invite
Theuns
Theuns Good glad you want to join The link to the front page of round II is the last line of my post above your last post. Or you can go to the main page of the forum and choose modeling subjects then choose group builds and you will find the page there, look for Official Natural Metal Finish Group Build II. Post the info about your kit, manufacturer, scale and aircraft, and I will get you listed on the front page.
Well she wont be ready in time for cut off date of this build... but I did get on a coat of Humbrol Matte Aluminum overall. Now for masking and some other shades of a aluminum on certain areas next.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

Awwww Stikpusher thats a bummer would an extension of a few days help you out ? Or maybe a carry over to round 2 ? BTW she is looking really good thats a very nice base coat to start from I tell ya
Well if there are more folks here besides me who would benefit from an extension... Otherwise I may as well roll it over in to the NMF II...
I love the dull flat finish of the Humbrol shade. It looks like a bird that has been out in the weather for quite a while.
Looking good Stik!!!!!
looking at the number of replies I realize this GB is close to 1000!
Just received another box of goodies from Squadron, the meanies at customs made me fork out another 20$! Grr...Anyhow here is the set of resin P-51 wheels vrs. the kits tractor type tires. All photos and references indicated the 'diamond tread' is correct, not sure what to do with the farm tires.
Theuns - congrats on the finish! I love those old CW-era jets.
SuppFire - I am afraid that the scratchbuilding bug already infected me I love to "tinker" and try new things, I find that aspect of the hobby really relaxing, go figure! Thanks for the input!
Unfortunately, due to an emergency minor surgical procedure (I am fine), I was unable to get going on my build. Then I had to catch up with work.. anyways, all I was able to do with the Revell P51D (1:48) was fill the sink holes in the LG and intake scoop, and some sanding. Also the control stick had a sink hole i filled and sanded... and that is it! no construction or paint... so, can I move the build to NMF II?? Or do I start a new one? I need a ruling : ) In any case, look forward to NMF II, I really learned a lot on this one.
JMart,
vetteman42 is the creator of this and NMF II, he will allow a carry over I am sure.
Glad to hear you are ok!
Careful with the scratch building infection, once it spreads you will find it hard to finish builds in reasonable time! I started a 1/48 Sherman that was going to be a 'quickie' between more serious projects... all ready it has twice the parts as the kit started with! I will get some done today and post to my thread called 'M4A1 Sherman in the mud' Have some 'welding' to do in styrene plastic.
Hi all. I was able to finishe my MiG 19 a few weeks ago. I was hopeing to show it as a completed diorama, but due to work and two weeks leave at home, i wasn't able to and that will have to wait until the Autumn. So here is the completed aircraft as it is now. Its not perfect, but i am very happy with how it turned out, alot better than i was expecting before i started painting. I have deffinatly learnt a few lessons for the next time i do an NMF. The finish is dirtier than it looks in the photo's. Thanks for the chance to finally do an NMF. I have been putting this off for a long time. But useing Alclad wasn't as half bad as i expected. Next time i must back sure i sand it all down between the primer and the Alclad.
I will try and get some more pics up later. But my connection isn't playing ball at the moment and i want to get this up before i lose it.
And yes, it is a tail sitter. I usually glue my planes down when i put them on the dio, so that won't be a problem. Thanks again, and a great GB.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

That's a real cute and sweet looking mig you have there Bish; don't be too hard on yourself. I know very well how sometimes you can get flaws in your paintjob when doing a NMF. Golden rule number one as i know now would be "smoother surface gives better NMF paintjobs". Judging from your comments i feel you have got that one down now.
Nevertheless i really like your model and hope you will do more NMF jobs in the new year.

Thanks Richard. There area a couple of spot where when i was poslihing the NMF a few bits of the black showed through where it wasn't smooth enough. The actual build wasn't spot on either, these Bilek kits don't just thow themselves together like some others, but it did turn out alot better than i thought it would. overall i am happy with it. Heres some more pics now i have a decent connection.
I did this with out the flash and only the spot lights, it shows up the weathing a bit better.
I deffinatly plan on some more NMF, and this was a very good practice for that. I got a trio of P-51's planned for some time next year, plus a few others. I will post some pics of the finished dio for this MiG 19 later in the year.
Bish I like your MiG-19 don't care what you say, it looks mean and well used. Very well done, you have this NMF thing down IMHO and I hope to see more of your NMF builds. Oh and please do post a pic of your finished dio would love to see it. The MiG will be on the front page shortly.
Bish, nice looking Mig very cool Hope to see you in round 2....
Thanks guys, much appreciated. Afraid i will have to pass on round two as i am off to the falklands later today and won't be back to modelling until Sept. I now have 7 Dio's to catch up on so that will be my priority. But i will deffinatly be doing some more NMF next year and will watch round two while i am away.
Bish what has been said already!!! Looks great!!!
Bish - nice job on the MiG. Fair winds and following seas on your trip to the Falklands. Cheers.
Signing off from here, catch you all in NMF II
Bish And yes, it is a tail sitter. I usually glue my planes down when i put them on the dio, so that won't be a problem. Thanks again, and a great GB.
Bish,
Sometimes I wonder if that is not a better solution to the 'tail sitting' problem. Adding weights in the nose just adds stress to a all ready delicate front landing wheel. Anyhow your Mig turned out great and a nice finish to vetteman42s successful group build!
I have that concern myself. I don't want to add to much weight to avoid adding extra stress. As all my build are for dios and i always glue the plane to stop them moving around on the board, i don't know why i even bother trying. Old habits i guess.
Its been a really great GB, some awsome work from you guys, and as always a pleasure to learn from.
I reckon we can come up with 17 more posts guys, too close to a grand not to...
