Rather than post individual comments, I'll just say that I'm really glad this thread is still alive. Everyone is doing a great job on their projects. I check the thread every day for updates.

As you may have read in another post, my 1:72 Sherman from this group build got a silver medal in my local contest this year. I was pretty darn proud. Here's a pic of how she appeared on contest day...

Flat future wash ??????

Are you talking about using future as a dull cote ?????

If so, then mix 70% future with 30% Tamiya Flat and spray it. Might work with a brush though.

Great work Frosty, Bill, and Peter! Bring it on home!
Well, I have the decals done. I have the wash done. I need the base done.

I need help though- how exactly do you do the flat future wash? What are the ratios that you use? What do you use? I was thinking about just brushing it on, if it is possible.

I have time this weekend to finish it, so that is what I'll try to do.

Build, oven cleaner and toothbrush - works everytime (except on the really old formula black and yellow acrylics Tamiya did - nothing short of a blowtorch got that stuff off clean). However, the long boat decal is now dead and buried. It was too difficult to touch up to give the correct angle of the sail etc.

Now I'm looking through my spares for usable decals. I got a royal Artillery 77 on red and blue square (75th Anti-tank regiment (77 - 75 go figure) from an old Universal Carrier sheet but it didn't come with the 11th Armoured's Bull decal I need. I also have the 3rd Infantry's black and red triangle, but I think they only had M10 3 inchers not Achilles.

Now gotta post to see if anyone has the AFV club Achilles and ask for pics of their decal instructions. Might be able to home build decals for a vehicle of the Guards Armoured's, 21st Anti-Tank Regiment. What joy.

Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] on your builds and a bonus Thumbs Up [tup] to Frosty for figuring out that pesky pic problem (still messes me up sometimes)

Bill: Looking great!

QUOTE: Claymore, great job lloking good - nice drab color

It's the Pastels, a light coat over the entire vehicle really tones things down (Thanks Robert)

Petbat, sorry to here of your experience. Did the first coat come off clean ? The worse part is when some of it stinks in the corners

Derek and Bill. Glad to see I'm not the only one still going (at least for the second time in my case.) Yours are both looking great.

Well I have let the new coats of paint cure for over 48 hours before applying the future for the new decals. Have let that cure for a day. Gonna be the 'Academy Italian Job' this time as the Canadian decals that were on her are Kaput! I have to add the little flag to the long boat to make them correct for the Savio river campaign vehicle. Need to come up with a new Dio idea though.

I'll wait another day before spraying the future/flat. Then wait another 2 days before a wash, etc; Making Darn sure this time the paint is not going to peel off on me. May the Pagan God of OD take pity on me this time.

Wow! Long time since I've posted in this topic!

Here are a couple of shots of the "neverending" Firefly project. The first is of the front of the hull with a few bits added on after the first paint coat. Next shot is of the turret ring with the "extra" cylinder that Robert helped me with in another thread. Still a ways to go before being finished. The tracks are driving me to distraction!! lol

Peter,
If all else fails....sink that puppy up to the sponsons in mud or water and call it a river fording diorama or hitting the beaches....!!!!

No worries mate. The fun is in the journey.

I like it, You should be real happy with the way it came out. You tackled more of a project than I would have and I must say you did an excellent job. A+

Was going to post pics of the finished Achilles the other day, but the weather was too bad for taking pics of a Dark Green vehicle (the yellow painted Panther pics for that GB were off colour too).

Then I went to my club meeting and got the bright idea to try a weathering trick one of the guys from my club told me about. It looked great on his Pershing, so I gave it a go. Basically mix pastel chalk with Tamiya Thinner and paint the very thin mix on the running gear, hull, etc. When the thinner dries it is supposed to leave the chalk as a nice dusty film in the kit crevasses, etc. Note the word 'Supposed'!

Remember when I had problems with the Future/Flat base mix (my son thinned the flat base with turpentine) and I had to repaint it, well now that the thinner has dried it has cracked the paint in all the crevasses and the lower half needs repainting again. Not Happy Jan!

Have stripped the lower hull and running gear and tracks back to bare plastic this time (that was fun, trying to keep the oven cleaner out of the interior to keep that painting detail intact), made sure the kit was very clean and dry , and have sprayed the Dark Green again - this time from a new bottle of paint bought elsewhere. Have a new bottle of Flat base and new bottle of Future ('Pledge one go' in Australia according to future Guru Swanny). If I have problems this time I will be donating this kit to anyone who wants it. It is cursed, cursed I tell you. Even worse than a 'Monkey's paw' ). Deep breath. Calm down, okay, I'm alright now. Just hope it comes out 3rd time lucky.

Man Frosty that M32 looks awesome and in 1/72 scale no less. I am convinced I would go blind trying to do that size but I am really close to doing a Tiger just to try one out. Again awesome job.
