Hey guys,

just got back from deployment, so I ought to be able to get back on the A10 here in the next few days.

Satch- Nice work! That really is colorful.

Well boys, It's done.  My secret Santa sent a kit that was a little outside my comfort zone.  It was a nice one but not something that I would have chosen, but isn't that the point?

The Academy 1/48th P-26 Peashooter.

I chose the most colorful scheme to hide the construction flaws!  I now know that I never want to build WWI aircraft or ships or anything else with rigging.  I tried thread and that didn't work so well so I went with stretched sprue.  Don't look too closely or you will see the gobs of super glue and accelerator.  Good thing this goes into a cabinet and not on a contest table.Embarrassed

Thanks to   Sub Revolution for challenging me!

All, I'd be willing to do another year, but seeing as this year's project is still "In Process" not sure how much of a vote I have. My little one is here and we're looking to buy a new house, so maybe soon I'll have the room to build again.

It's too damn quiet out there boys, better fix bayonets and get ready for a fight. No, really, where did y'all get to? Are we going to let this Secret Santa GB end at 4? I say "Nay Nay!" Let's get at 'er and make #5 happen!!  How do you guys feel about it?

Haven't been around for a little bit due to some family issues.  I really need to get on my kit.  Unfortunately my bench time has dwindled in the last few months.  As far as a 5th GB goes, I'd be up for it, but we've really got to get on the ball here.  Fast too.  It's already November.

I have been busy with job hunting and family issues as well.  I need to get some bench time - need to change the focus of life right now.

I am all for a 5th year!  It helps my 'Christmas attitude' knowing I am getting someone something that they will enjoy, but be a surprise Christmas morning.

Who will start the new forum subject?

Hey all. Been a while since I've posted. Well I have a little one on the way and tried to finish my F-105 before I had to close up shop to turn the man cave into a nursery. I was only partially successful. I did rescribe the whole thing, though I wasn't thrilled with the results. I did slap the camo on but decided to try a new masking technique a friend recommended: Silly Putty. It masked just fine but the camo lost some of its "softness" around the edges so I was planning on respraying. What was it Lennon said about life happening while you're making other plans? Anyway I have a 3/4 completed F-105 that is patiently waiting for me to find a nook in the house to throw a work bench. Could be a while.

Whew!! Had to go back 4 pages to find us. Well, summer is evidently over, judging by the amount of leaves covering my lawns. Had a very busy one this year too. Lots of yardwork and landscaping, rebuilt my deck, finished building our new softball fields and even found time to get married! On the down side, I did not get any time to build. Time to sit at the bench is about the only thing I look forward to in winter, so bring it on!!  As far as my build goes, I am ready to slap on some paint. I'll get some pics on as soon as I get the airbrush going. And HEY!! Are we gonna do this again? Count me in if we do.

Cheers, Dennis

Awesome work on the B25 Jeaton!

Here is my progress. I painted the base color on the exterior surfaces of model. I've never tried painting the major pieces before assembly, but with the A10's complex shape, I thought it might be a good idea to make painting easier later.

Here are some pictures, finally!   All the detail in this kit takes a while to put in place.  Everything fits so far, but it takes a lot of trial fitting to figure out the placements, and the sub assemblies have to be done carefully to avoid misalignment later on.  I have not done a lot of weathering on the inside parts as they will all be in shadow once the fuselage is closed up.  However, I think a lot will be visible through the windows provided I keep them clear.  I have been doing a lot of walking away from the bench to let parts and paint dry.  Other time commitments haven't helped progress either.  Here are some pictures.  Building notes with these pictures are on my website, here:

Looks good Steve, nice job. I was interested to see how pre-shading the panel lines worked, looks like it works pretty well. I did make some progress on that Sabre, pretty much ready for paint. I'm wanting to try that Alclad paint on it but I've never used the stuff before. Gotta be a 1st time for everything though eh?

Take care,

Dennis.

Hey Bullet,

I think its the cockpit looks great, your building a F-86 right?

You should use Alclad II. Its great stuff, its the only paint I use for Metal finishes. Its the only Aluminum paint that I have found that doesn't fingerprint, and can have tape on it.

For nose weight, I just use epoxy and BBs.

Excited to see the finished jet.

And before ya start, I know I need a new camera. Well, this is the 2nd time I painted the cockpit and quite frankly I gotta say it don't exactly match the picture I had in my head. But I gotta get moving so this is it. Just trying to figure out what to use, and how to secure it, for nose wieght. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of trying that Alclad paint for the finish. I've never tried the stuff before so any tips would be appreciated. Thanx guys.

Thanks MPH, I actually airbrushed the cockpit and then used Prisma colored pencils for the switches, and a toothpick for  the seatbelts.

You should get a F-18

There is some great work going on here!  Sorry I have been MIA for so long.  Between this broken ankle {almost ready to get rid of this boot} and work - I have been un-motivated and mentally blized to do anything.

I should have at least kept an eye on the work that everyone else has been doing! Embarrassed

But thanks to 'sub revolution' {aka Tristan} for sending me the Squadron Su-25 book, I may have gotten the modivation to make it to the workbench.  That and do a better job of watching everyone else's progress.

Raptor - that F-18 looks smart.  Made me realize that I have never built an F-18.  Need to add that to the list.  Nice start on the A-10 office - the painting all by hand?

Just want to stop by and give an update that I have broken sprue and have flung paint on plastic. Just finished building the engine tonight and what a jem it was. I also painted the interior colours of the rlm 02 and rlm 66. Will post a progress pic of the engine etc soon. Hows everyone else doing
