Ok gang, here it (finally) is!

So this guy was a big learning experience for me, not so much the kit's fault as my own. Perhaps one of the biggest frustrations I had was everytime I finished something on it, something else would break/get lost/painted by accident, etc.  Overall, though, it was a lot of fun, and (if you do't look too closely) I think it came through it all right. Great GB, too. I have enjoyed everyone else's work as well.

Niiiicccee!  I've got to dig that one out of the stash and build it some day.

Just curious... do you know if the Italeri kit is a reboxing of the old ESCI kit?

I hope it isnt too late to enter a build of mine- a 1/48 scale Mirage 3 R2Z?

I built it using the Italeri Mirage 3 E kit, with various aftermarket stuff and a tiny bit of scratch building

The South African Air Force was one of the largest Mirage 3 operators.. having the following on strength- BZ, CZ, DZ, D2Z, RZ and R2Z.

We had 4 Mirage 3 R2Zs.. one was lost on operations in the Border war (I believe), one lost during training or flight operations, one was converted into the mythical Cheetah R, and the last one 857 was retired to the museum here at Air Force Base Ysterplaat. She was also said to be the fastest Mirage 3 in the fleet.

If I am out of bounds with the entry, I will happily withdraw...

I apologise at this late stage but I must withdraw due to lack if finances to finish of the kit/diorama as I wish to (post christmas at earliest). While I could build the kit itself in time (only being 144 scale and not highly detailed)I'd prefer to keep it for the diorama I'm part through.

I was making some good progress and have the fuselage where I want it for paint.  I'm going to try this conversion chart and maybe get some FS colors that are the same as the RAL in the NORM 72 German scheme.

Only real problem I have now is that I don't have a dedicated work space and my sons 7th birthday party is this weekend so I have to pack everything away and start pulling it back out on Sunday.  I keep telling myself I have to set something up but maybe this is the last straw.

*Ok, the batteries in the camera are dead so maybe thats the last straw.

iv actually completed my 1st plane  and also my 1st gb (:D)

i manedged to (accidentally) find a recon pod that sits in the bomb bay it looks good imho

here are the final pics

1 thing thats really annoyed me is the final coat of varnish has made parts of it go milky. its much worse in the photos than it is for real but its there nonetheless. the gloss coat i put on went on fine

i then put the decals on. after that i put a coat of matt varnish on and it was pretty bad iv since put a satin coat on and its better. any ideas what i did wrong??????

ps the gloss satin and matt varnish are all humbrol spray cans

got the wheels on theyr rather flimsy i had to use ca and they still bow out a bit!

all thats left to do now is fit the pitot tube (begs to get broken off) and put a final coat of either mat or satin im not sure yet

plenty of mistakes but im chuffed with it coz im a noob :)

Wirraway - Great looking Phantom!   Twenty bucks is a good deal in any scale I think.

i ruined the decals that form the stencil on top of the wing so i masked it and sprayed it lol

iv made lots of little mistakes rectified most of em and il live with the rest but i like the look of it :)

update time camos getting there im slightly alarmed at the amount of paint that came off with the tape but overall i really like it

I just started getting into the 1/48 RF-4E.

I located some Norm 70 camo  type decals and started up but now will be away for a week on vacation.  I can't complain because I really need one.  Hopefully I'll start right up after I'm back.

Finished the Revell 1/32 RF-4C.  This was a $20 win on e-bay, which I was pretty pleased to get, as they are getting a bit scarce.  I had the Eduard PE set for the cockpit, but chickened out.  I see Another big Phantom in my future, maybe with a SEA camo scheme, so that PE wont go to waste.  Undercarriage instructions were a bit vague, apart from that I really enjoyed this one.  RBF tag seems too big, I found these on a Great Britain website, maybe 1/24 scale.  I'll try and scale them down and try again.  According to the instructions, 6 of these Alabama ANG birds were converted to carry Sidewinders.  (A big thank you to to Hawkeye for providing the 'Winders, all the way from USA to Oz)
