HELP!!!

I have no idea WTF happened, but after first rubbing down the model with some alcohol and a J cloth, I sprayed it with a 50/50 mix of Tamiya black and alcohol, and I see these flat textured spots everywhere! What could have caused this? There was no sign of anything like this before I painted it- the surfaces all looked fine. I am concerned the Alclad will look the same. Should I give it a coat of Future before the Alclad? Any suggestions appreciated. I have no desire to strip it.

ScorpioMikey Welcome Sign to the shiny side, your build is listed on the front page. I gotta say your choice of subject is a good one as my first NMF build using foil was the same kit. Fits arent the greatest and detail is lacking but it built up into a model just the same. Cant wait to see your progress.

Jmabx wow you have put in a lot of work already but it looks worth the trouble as the fuse looks 100% better after your work.

Okay gentlemen (and SC)... despite being away from the bench for some springtime duties, I have a small amount of progress to share on the XF-91.

I did some filing and sanding on the rear of a fuselage half to try and correct the shape of it. The area was too large. Notice the original part on the right... the fuselage lines toward the back of the plane are at an angle like they will meet each other and then they kind of straighten out and level off before they reach the exhaust opening. The left one is the corrected fuselage half. Notice how the lines in the fuselage stay at the same angles all the way to the rear of the plane. It needs a little fine tuning but it looks right. Compare to the original Thunderceptor photo below.

It took alot of filing, sanding and eye-balling to get her in that shape. Black Eye Good thing the plastic is really thick!

Hard to see from this view but the corrected half is on the left.

With both sides finished, I hollowed out the rear. Like many planes of the era, the XF-91 had the engine tailpipe in the fuselage surrounded by the outer sheet metal.

And from what I can tell, the F-84 tailpipe should be about the right size and look to use as the J-47. If not, we'll always think that it should have been. Wink

I just need to figure out how I want to mount it in the fuselage and add some internal framework. Everything is rather rough right now but it will all come together eventually. Yes

If its not too late id like to join in with my Italeri/Testors 1:48 P-47 Chief Ski-o-watha. Looking at the kit theres going to be alot of work involved. Im going to try and get hold of an AM cockpit for it since its pretty spartan as is. Otherwise itle be made pretty much OOB.

vetterman42, simpilot34 and Julez,

So far this F-86 is turning out quite nice. I can now say that NMF also means "No More Fear" and I will be doing more in the future.

I got the landing gear and landing gear doors on last night and hope to start decaling this evening. This GB was just the push I needed to move into the NMF and as been fun.

Actually that kit builds up very  nicely. It fits together quite well. I have one that is about 85% built and almost ready for paint. It has some flaws, but lots of potential as well.

Yup I'm in for round two! This one should be easier than the Buchon I build for the first one due to its painted bottom side. I have a feeling the Hobbycrap kit is going to need filler thought!

hey Randy you can sign me up for round two. I am building a old Hobbycraft 1/48 Seversky P-35 for my GB over at Swanny's called "The golden Age of Aviation and I just realised since it was an all NMF plane it would fit right in here too. So put me down and I'll be starting the build in the next two weeks or so. Thanks1

Fermis,

The only thing i can say is....WOWBow Down And they say i can be a fast builder....geez. Gorgeous ponies and a very impressive display room you got there. Simply amazingSmileYes

Well,.... i decanted the laquer based gloss black, sprayed it on last evening and was quite surprised to find out that the paint has dried overnight already.Surprise I can remember using revell enamel gloss black on the C47 and that took days and daysBang Head. Will future the lot and just might make it to the end.... 36 hours left before i come over to the other side of the pondBig Smile

Some pic worthy progress today. I began applying the decals. I am not overly impressed with these Cutting Edge Decals. They are supposedly measured for this kit, but the nose one is too small and the tip tank arrows are too long with the slit for the fins too small. And I am finding that the kit decals are on the brittle side so far. The anti glare panel is breaking on one side and one of the fuselage stars broke as well. I should get the remainder of the decals on tomorrow. Lots of stencils on this bird.Black Eye

Daywalker what seams are you talking about I cant see any, Nice work, very nice.

Julez72 looks like you convinced that plastic to straighten out its act, I bet that truckers strap came in handy too. Big Smile Well done Toast

Kermit looks like you will have the F-51 all finished up before you go pond hopping. BTW those same seams always bite me too, seems all the kits have those in the same places.

Stikpusher Ya tease !! Now we hafta wait for pictures huh Whistling Hey thanks for sharing your first NMF builds the both look great. The F80 is really sweet. I want to build one someday.

Fermis what can I say that hasn't been said already, your ability to build so fast and so well will always amaze me. Takes me over a month to build one P-51 and they aren't nearly as nice as yours are, and here you build two in less than a month a couple of weeks in fact. Bow DownToast Your builds are on the front page.

Frank that old F-80  is a sweet little kit that really builds up nicely. It even includes a full engine and a maintenance stand for the rear fuselage half. The cockpit is well detailed and has a nice proper seated pilot. I hope they do reissue it soon.
