Finally back in the bench, working on the seat and pit and re-doing some stuff like the SB belts.

  Alclad has been laid down. I am now working on all the fiddly bits. Not shown in the picture are the canopy and landing gear. I painted them with black enamel and have them drying under a lamp. I am hoping the black enamel will make the Alclad Chrome really shine. I have not even done this in practice...so I am hoping the results will be decent.

Hey Vetteman, is NMF III going to happen after this one wraps up? I was very naughty today and spend big $$ on the Trumpeter F.1/.3 1/32 English Electric Lightning. I had to have it, such a BIG kit. This bird is HUGE and is going to outsize the Starfighter! Also found some well priced AM but there is no way I am starting this kit till later in the year. This kit is #10, I am currently on #1. So hopefully a new NMF later this year will coincide just right.

AlterE - nice; just be careful with that lamp! I have seen plenty of "sad" (droppy melted) plastic bits in here due to over-lamping :)

Got some work done on the Streak Eagle today made the nose probe on my little lathe and am happy with the way it came out. Did a bit more filling and fitted the canopy. I hope to have some pictures in a day or two that are worth showing. My hope is to get a base coat of paint on it this week.

I have ordered the Aires cockpit set (Resin and PE) and the Eduard exterior PE set for the Lightning. Also reckon ts going to use at least 2-3 bottles of Alclad lacquer! The surface area of this bird is huge.Not a lot of steps in the instructions but the sheer amount of plastic used in this kit is what made it so expensive.

Randy, yeah mate it's the Hasegawa 1/48 kit, it will carry the Eduard Zoom set, TD seat and wheels, Verlinden engine and gunbay set

and will be finished with allcad and Red Roo decals for 82SQD RAAF.....

Richard, go for it buddy, i recommend you get an Eduard Zoom set for you first crack at AM, there is not a whole heap to add

and the Zoom sets are quite cheap as well...Randy is right about resin, it does have an off putting smell to it when your cutting/sanding

but on the flipside the molded detail is awesome and it's fairly easy to work with...

Even though I'm in the position where I'm signed up for too many GBs, and kind of want to drop out of all of them and then sign up on an ad hoc basis as I complete each build...I too am curious to know when NMF3 kicks off.

Also...haven't been too active on here of late, but I just sprayed decanted Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver for the first time last night. The stuff looks great, dries fast, and holds extremely well. I honestly think it'd be great on its own, but it'd probably also make a great primer for other metalizers. It'd protect plastic from Alclad, and provide a nice undercoat for Model Master metalizers in case of lift.

Thanks guys, the model is sealed and intend to start adding the wash to the panel lines tonight.

Had so much fun with Hairless Joe that I'm itching to build another 'bolt post haste! Even considering dropping out of/postponing a few other GBs to make it happen.

Dang Doogs, you've as much claim to the title as I have. I think I have about five or so but I'm looking to pick up an Academy P-47N and trolling Ebay looking waiting for a good deal on the 1/32 Hasegawa bubbletop.

I've enough decals to do about thirty jugs though, seems P-47s ended up with some of the best nose-art and I can't stop buying cool new aftermarket sheets.

Does anyone know where I can get a 'bubble' canopy for my Tamiya 1/72? Or, does anyone want to vacuform me one? 

  When I bought my kit, it was an open box. It looked O.K., but I have found what the issue was. The canopy had stress cracks. So, I sanded and sanded and finally got it to a point that it was presentable. Then I used 'bare metal' to mask the canopy and preceded to paint it. All went well and the only thing to do was clean the goo and dip in 'Future'. Then I made the ultimate rookie mistake... I cleaned the canopy with lacquer. To say I was horrified would be an understatement. When I went to the internet to search for a cause, is when I found out about lacquer and canopies.

  I found a canopy that might work at Squadron...but it is for a Hasegawa. So it might work, but who knows.

  Anyway, let me know if you come across something...

  I saw one from Falcon, made for Squadron. It is for a Hasegawa, so I am not sure if it will work. If anyone knows that it will work with my Tamiya, please let me know.

My Trumpy Razorback arrived yesterday...I know it's the same size as the Hasegawa kit, but it just seems bigger. Also nice to see somebody mold the four-bladed props as single pieces.

Gamera crossovers are allowed here ya know and if I recall correctly there were lotsa painted P-47's too. Sounds like a good idea to me go for it man !!!!!!!!!!

And as before if you are a week or so away from completing a build for round II I will keep it open for ya or you may carry over to round III, just let me know.

I will be building Revell's 1/48 B-29 Superfortress with foil, well I will be tryin to anyways but wont start that till late summer as I have a Yak-7 to build then... Well this lil green feller sent me a 1/48 RoG Spitfire Mk IX  that I have been chompin at the bit to build, a really nice looking kit BTW.

AlterEcho I make those kinda swaps all the time for my Revell kits. I just trim the canopies a bit long just incase, then fit them by sanding them. I do pack them with silly putty before sanding, makes life much easier. I did have the silly putty attack the plastic once, ( I dont think it was a Squadron canopy ) fogged it just a bit, dipped it in future and fixed it up.

Sweet! I'm down for...something!

Right now I'm leaning very heavily toward the 1/32 Hasegawa Jug my wife got me for Christmas. Considering doing "Slick Chick" of the 9th AAF/368th FG/395th FS. See the top two at left.

Vetteman:I'm probly gonna have to carry my Mustang over to round three.  Right now the only time I got time to work on it before May is the 4 days I got off for Easter but even then I'm not sure how much work I'll get done since I had a couple setbacks on it last time I was home, namely I for some reason left masking tape on the wings (from january....stupid me) and it pulled up bits of the silver I had on the wings and then also part of the aileron broke off with the tape too, so I doubt I will finish it in those 4 days.  I get out of school the 2nd week of May, and instead of dragging this GB on, I might as well go to the next one.

  Vetteman - Count me in for the next NMF GB. I will be doing either, or both, a Ki-61 and a C119 'Flying Boxcar'.

  I think I might have a fix. I found an open kit for $5.00. Some parts are missing, but the canopy is intact and so are the decals. So, I might go with the donor kit's decals. The fuselage was included, but already glued up. I examined the fuselage with the Tamiya. The donor kit's fuselage is horrible (donor kit is a Academy P-47D). The cowling is to fat and the canopy cannot be opened without hitting the aerial. On the underside, the turbocharger exhaust would have to be cut off and moved rearward. Even a newbie like me can see that this kit is horrible. Anyway, at least I have some stuff for my stash.

V-Man: Thanks, never really thought about cross-overs. I like the idea of a P-47 GB if someone other than me wants to set one up. I'd consider tossing in a P-47 of some sort for it and/or NM GB III sometime this summer or autumn. I hate to commit to myself as I said I'd made a resolution not to start anything else till I finish some stuff off, I signed on for three GBs so far this year after I vowed I wouldn't do any!

I am looking forward to that foiled 1/48th B-29. Gee the 1/72nd scale kit is a friggin' handful, I can't imagine the 1/48th scale kit.

I started work on the fiddly bits on the B-29 last night. No idea the darn thing had so many little radio masts, pitot tubes, and little thingees mounted on it. I was hoping to be done this weekend but that ain't gonna happen...

  I have been working with Model Master's Aluminum Metalizer. I am starting to prefer it over Alclad because I can use a brush to apply it. After it dries, I am having a hard time telling it from the Alclad. Very impressive product, so far.

  Also, I found a stress crack on the Academy canopy. I am going to use one of these canopies and order another one when I make a larger order. No need to pay shipping for one canopy, eh....

Yeah, I picked this sheet up for "Raid Hot Mama", but like the Slick Chick markings for a bubblejug.

I've got one of the other Zotz sheets in 48th. Really looking forward to doing "Magic Carpet". Love the olive drab with NMF wings, cowl, and cowl flaps. Definitely one of the more distinctive Razorbacks I've seen.
