Nice Kermit, looks like you're close to finishing her.

Normally I always assemble the model before painting it but the way the kit is engineered I thought it would be easier to paint the parts as sub-assemblies and then assemble the whole thing. Plus the full wingspan is almost a meter and I'm wasn't sure I could handle something so large as one piece.

Hey Gamera looks like yur dog could use that as a surfboard man. I can really see where one would want to paint the B-29 in sections. Its lookin pretty good from where I am sitting man. I keep looking at mine and wonder what I have gotten myself into this time.

Richard I have decided to cheat on the B-29 foil job I went and got one of those wallpaper rollers, you know the 6" wide rubber ones,  to use on the foiling, should make things go a bit faster anyways. Also gave some thought to making a rotisserie type of thing like I did for the skybolt wings to make handling and working on it easier

Julez yeah we may just end up with a small fleet of 29s next go around

Who is the manufacturer of that B29 kit?  It doesn't look like the old Monogram 1/48th kit.  That kit had the rudder molded as part of the fuselage and the canopy didn't fit for flip.

I could probably do that kit justice now, but back then (the 70's) I had not learned many tricks to building or dealing with bad fit problems.

Okey Dokey, I'm calling this little Thunderjet done! A slight mishap with respraying the Alclad and some decal damage so I moved the ladder to the other side.

Eagle: It's the 1/72nd Academy kit. Good kit overall. Only problem I had with it is the long seam in the upper fuselage. That's might have been my problem though by not getting a solid gluing on it.

Casper -- great work! I have one of these left over from NMF 1 that never got finished, I was up to masking the first shade of NMF and just ground to a halt. I've been thinking of taking a shot at finishing it. It struck me separating the multiple decals into smaller pieces might be an idea... Did you clearcoat under/over these? I see no film at all! I've only recently got into clearcoats and am still feeling my way (three projects so far), so I have no clue how clear affects a metallic finish...

Lovely kit to do, not hard but max results. I will do this one again in the future as a harvard in the dutch royal airforce. We used em too and painted them bright yellow but there are a few in english blue grey over green camo....

Anyways, hope you guys like her! I made one big boo boo with this one and left it there for all to see. Wonder who spots it first...

Casper what can I say ? You have gone and out done yourself on this build even with the troubles you had. The finish and markings came out great. I really like the way that paint works for you with the shading and the way the lighting bounces off of it

Thunderbolt the big advise I can give you about clear coats is do not use a flat clear on it, as the NMF will turn a powdery white I have found. I have used Future and MM clear coats ( gloss and semigloss ) on foil, Talon and, MM buffing Metalizers with no problems at all.

I have not really liked MM Acryl clear flat because it seems to keep a bit of a gloss after using future to seal decals and weathering. So after reading your blog I got some Microscale Micro Flat to give a try. I do have some MM clear flat lacquer but have heard its not a good idea to use over acrylics.

ColGray YES !!!!! Yes indeed your build is in, and to the group. One can never have enough P-51s ya know. Looks like you have a nice start going too lotsa detail it looks like. I have a 1/32 Revell P-51B and would like a D model to go with it so will be watching your build to see what the Hase kit looks like.

Kermit being a bit of a redneck I can see where one of those fancy scaffolding machines could come in very handy for the B-29 build. But I was thinking more along the lines of cinder blocks, a couple of screw jacks and a 2" X 12" X 10' board. That way when I finish the Superfort I could use the blocks for a hot tub and the board for seating and the left over screw jacks to level the tub.

Hey your Texan came out fantastic as I said earlier I really like the markings you chose and ....... And the gods of styrene were indeed smiling upon you when you had your troubles. I think by sanding the foil off and removing some of the surface detail and toning down the rest really helped the looks of your build. Duno how you manage turning a disaster into a masterpiece. Well done sir

Ok guys the front page has been updated with two more finished builds from Casper and Kermit. Also our newest builder has been added to the list, ColGray and his 1/32 P-51D.

Alloy me to submit my revell P47 in nmf. 1/48 pro modeler kit, not very good fit wise especially the cockpit and seat. Paint is bumper chrome enamel in a spray bomb from Advance Auto Parts, everything else is model master enamels. Besides the terrible overspray that gets on everything in a 50 foot area I think it's decent, needs some weathering effects to tone it down. Decals were a problem as usual and I had to settle for some wrong ones to make it go. Stripes are free-hand as you can tell, this is a late war 368TH fighter group aircraft I saw in a plate at their website. Regards, xradio.

Ok,.... Done some thinking about it and if you are ok with it Vetteman i would like to start on my 1/32 Trumpeter F4F-3 "early" yellow wing Wildcat. I have over a month to finish it and i'm pretty confident i will have loads of time enough I was fighting myself over the choice between a Mig 3 for the ostfront GB (i think you know which one, randy lol) and this one and right now i am leaning towards the wildcat.

Planning on going all out on this one....

Well i lost track of situation and forgot to take pictures so i skipped the engine, cockpit, and the gun bays... still this is coming together great. love the fit of all the parts

Also this was my first time for scratchbuilt seatbelts. Construtive critisism...

Basically its blue tape folded, cut, and worn out to give the feeling of worn out seat belts

  Thanks for the compliments, guys...and yes, this is my second model, ever. I just did a lot of research (lots and lots of mags, reading forums and blogs.) and airbrush practice before starting. The 'tips' that you guy's post here are the result.

  Here is where I am, currently. Went over the entire model looking for errors and sanding before laying down the primer. I know on my next model, I will get a proper scriber and some PE scribing templates. So, the primer went down as well as the Alclad on the fuselage, undercarriage and fuel tank. Next is the painting of the green strip.

First coat painted metalizer alluminum, steel and titanium..with a yellow tail and red cone( i think im going to try to mask the spiral of the red and yellow nose piece

Looks like I'm becoming a little pressed on time.  I had a whole week (spring break) to finish up the 'stang and all I managed to do was look at it a couple times (dam you model railroading!).  Looks like now I cant get back to work on it til Easter which is about a week before the end date, so I'm not sure if she'll done by the deadline.....I'll try my best

I've started my final build for this round of NMF, and yes it's yet another Mustang....

First pic, I've removed all of the engine panels in prep for the Verlinden set which is still on order and about 2 weeks away, i've also added the eduard coloured Zoom set to the office...

Next up is the other side with the office attached, i added a couple of wires to the radio equipment...

Final shot shows the True details resin seat, wasn't sure about useing it i'm normally a PE seatbelt type of guy but i think it came out ok...

Randy, it may be a couple of weeks before my next WIP pics, but you fellas will be the first to know when the verlinden engine and gunbay set show up...

Great work gentlemen! The mustangs are rampant this week And ofcourse all the other types look great too. Makes me wanna experiment more with aftermarket and resin stuff myself as all my builds in my entire modelling career (ahem) were OOB, sometimes with the odd scratch belt here and there.... First i need to allocate some funds to get me the airbrush i really want/ need to move on ahead...

I am so sorry my friend but i am going to postpone the wildcat until the next GB round... I have to help move my grandparents into a new home and a collegue of mine asked me if i was willing to custom airbrush his scooter. Something i never done before but i am certainly in for a gfood challenge. But it does mean i would be pressed for time to finish the Wildcat and i don't think i wanna make this one a "quickie". It's too good of a kit ya know... My apologies. Thankfully i haven't had the go ahead from you yet so....

Well i got the cone, prop, wheels and bays painted plus a little black wash and some future on the surface and the canopy has been dipped in future

a little experiment with a filtered red and blue for position lights in the off position

Overall great fit of parts and easy assembly and instructions

in that photo i took, i had accidentally put the landing gear doors backwards, thats been fixed now

ColGrey and Julez: That's some great stuff! Sharp work on the cockpits and gee you're almost done Grey.

Mandatory 'I'm not dead yet' post: Have started decaling, the kit only comes with the Second World War decals and my aftermarket sheet didn't come with national insignia so I've had to add the red to the stars and bars, and root around for the 'USAF' decals to build a Korean War B-29.

First off guys I am sorry for being such a  flake of late and not taking care of the group as I should be. Hopefully I will get back to normal soon. Anyway..........

Xradio81 please accept my most humble apologies for missing your finished build That Dupli-Color paint really worked well for ya, and the blue nose really brings it out. I have heard a lot of guys have trouble with auto paints curing but doesn't look like you had any trouble with that at all. Very well done sir

ColGray and you are learning very very well I must say. Your P-51 is looking fantastic I especially like seeing the scratch details you have added and the detail painting. The finish looks great and pat yourself on the back the canopy masking is spot on, nice sharp straight lines. Looks like the finish line is in sight for sure for a fine build.

Julez you always seem to do such nice work on your pits and you have done so on this one too, lotsa cool detail popping out. I for one like the looks of the TD seats, but I don't like working with resin, hate the smell of the stuff. Kinda weird huh. I haven't listed your build on the front page yet, is this the Tamiya 1/48 kit ?

AlterEcho man that's some nice work on those seams, if I remember correctly that kit has a few canyons that need filling. I still cant believe this is only your second build. Looking very very good so far.

Kermit no apologies needed my friend, and hey you know your build was in even before you typed the post That Wildcat does deserve your full attention and IO am really looking forward to seeing it come together in round III. However helping Grandparents comes in way ahead of messing with plastic IMHO. So you are going to airbrush a full sized real life scooter huh ? Well I hope you will be sending me a few pictures of the finished product. Oh and speaking of airbrushes what air brush are you looking to buy ?

So does this mean you are gonna start the MiG now I have the Yak-7 on deck for your group as soon as the F-15 is finished. Looks like both kits are designed the same way loads of detail.

Yes, that scooter has got me all excited. It is something i never did before and you know i am all in for the occasional challenge. Nowadays all these scooters are 80% plastic and have removable everything so i can work on one piece at a time. I figured i can use model paints as long as i coat it with a good spraycan varnish.

And as for what airbrush i want... Most of all i have my heart set on a gravity feed AB. I own a siphon fed one right now and it's really a great and versatile tool but it's not really suitable for very very fine close in work. I would like a Harder and Steenbeck Evo the most. Affordable and very high quality stuff! After that a compressor that is one step better. Right now i have an entry class model without moisture trap or manometer...

Nono, i can adjust the pressure but theres no dials on it so i sorta have to "feel" my way around with the airflow. Pretty quiet though.... Found a pic of it on revells website. What you see is what you get... On and off and a knob. No airtank.
