Hi everyone ;

John [jeaton01] I really appreciate you posting the F-80 parts to me I look forward to receiving them in the mail . I picked up some PE for the cockpit of the Airfix F-80 as well as a nice resin pilots seat .

The A-26B Invader and associated gear doors and engine nacelles are all masked and ready for the spraybooth .

The Sea Fury is also  ready for the paint shop along with the two P-51D Mustangs .

I'll be using Tamiya's AS-12 Bare metal silver in the rattle cans for the P-51's .

I've put together the two H03S-1's , both will be finished in gloss Sea Blue , one for the Navy and the other a Marine Corps bird . There both ready for masking and will follow the other four aircraft into the spraybooth shortly .

The front cockpit glazing is a little under size for the front fuselage of the H03S-1's but it's not all that noticable . The support Struts for the landing gear are just sitting in place , so I can remove them to spray to seperatly .

Stik , congrat's on your completed F6F-3 , she looks great and well a deserved 1st place Yes

Tonka , good luck with your OY-2 Stinson bird  , I saw that kit over at Hannants and actually had her in the shopping basket a couple of times but when I got to the online checkout I ended up removing her to keep the cost down on my orders . I'll wait and see how your build turns out and I might think about getting one afterall .

Anyway I've got airbrushing and spraying ahead me over the next few days , hopfully everything will work out .

                             John .

I was there for the 2nd time just 2 weeks ago. This time took my wife. I was at school at Quantico 3 times from the 70s thru the 80s. Much has changed..but the museum is terrific...the store has some outstanding books and of course waaay too many trinkets for us old retired grunts!Confused

I would love to do a shadow box of Fox Hill ...maybe just maybe...how long is this build anyway Whistling

And I just ordered a USMC OY-2 Stinson Korea version....

On a side-note to those pictures of the USMC Museum you posted. The ones of the room with the Chosin Resovoir is actually depicting Fox Hill. If anybody wants to read about it, a GREAT book is "The Last Stand of Fox Company: A true story of US Marines in combat" I forget who it's by though.

Nice work everyone!

The B-17 conversion is very neat,,never heard of that variant...

I got sidetracked on another project,, but thought I'd share these pics of Korea in full size diorama mode from National Museum of the Marine Corps,,I got some great ideas there..

Will post some WIP pics of my 120mm fig tomorrow night.

John, I hope you build the belly radome version on the B-17, that overhead thing is not so pretty.....

I finally got the F-80 parts off to you yesterday, the postage wasn't much so don't worry about that.

Carsanab- your Corsair cockpit is looking fantastic (as always)

Helo, you are a one man Korean War GB all by yourself! The PB-1W should be very nice. I built that Academy Fort as a gift many years back. A great kit.

No work on my Centurion in the past week, But I did finish up another kit for a now passed GB, War In the Pacific.. The old Otaki/Arii F6F-3. I took it to the local IPMS last night and took first place in the advanced division. Now to have my Centurion to turn out so well...

Keep the progress pics and posts coming!

I was looking at my stash this evening and I noticed that I had two Academy B-17F's ...

Well I guess my curiosty got the better of me and I went and raided the coin jar and scrapped enough together to order this ;

As the box say's , the conversion set comes with both roof and belly radomes as well as decals for the korean War based aircraft .

I'll put the old Hasegawa bird aside for another time and build one of the Academy B-17 with the RVHP conversion set , starting from the begining with WIP pic's .

Another bird to the ever growing Korean War stash .

PB1W?  Wow, you learn something new every day.  That is cool.  That is one of the reasons I like group builds.  You learn a lot about the subject not just modeling.

I haven't accomplished much.  Today I've been working on a Revell Roush Mustang for a GB at modelcarsmag.  It is made with hideous red plastic.  Makes me miss my grey plastic corsair!  I hope everybody has a great weekend.

Cheers,

Greg

I was searching around google for Korean War aircraft and came across a web site on the PB-1W Flying Fortress ...http://vw1assoc.tripod.com/pb-1w_days_2.html

I have an old Hasegawa B-17G Flying Fortress which I have re-built at least four times ; My last attempt was to delete the nose and belly turrets and filled in with plastic sheet and also the roof turret . I also have one of those Vacuform APS-20 belly radar radome which is designed to fit onto an AD-5W Skyraider .

From what I read on the net , I'm pretty sure that the PB-1W used the same type of radar , so I was wondering about using it on the B-17 re-build

I'm not quite sure where the actual position on the belly the radome shoud fit ???

I saw that RVHP have a conversion for PB-1W roof Radome which I think looks really different than the belly option , but it's priced at $44.00 , I wonder how I could modify my vacuform radome to fit on the roof instead ?

Aaron the Panther is looking great!!!Toast Saw the new Revell release of the old Matchbox at the LHS and could not believe they had nearly 30 or 40 bucks on it!!! I was like , you can't be serious, for an old Matchbox in a new box!!!

John, don't you just love it when a plan comes together. Great score btw!!!Toast

I don't know about the price, Tower has it listed for $13.99 which is quite a bit more reasonable, although still higher than some more recently tooled kits. Unfortunately it doesn't include any Korean war markings, (Blue Angels & a mid 50s USMC aircraft) although it shouldn't be that hard to whip something up.

Helo H-34

I was also curious about the color of the pilots uniform in the Korean War , I found an article in my aircraft magazines on the F-84 Thunderjet in Korea , there is two pic's of USAF pilots , one seems to be wearing a light khaki flying suit , the other pic show's a dark olive drab suit ?

Is the different color because of the different seasons...Summer/Winter ???

                                      John .

I don't know about USAF flight suits but I picked up the Squadron F9F book, and one photo shows a pilot in a dark colored flight suit climbing into his F9F. The caption says it is a winter fight suit, a rubberized coverall over long underwear, worn to provide some protection from cold water if the pilot had to bail out into the ocean. It also mentioned the summer flight suit was khaki.

I see from your other post its your birthday too, so happy birthday.

I've already started on the LCVP and have done some research, you can catch up on whats already happened in the build so far,

/forums/t/129732.aspx

If I can join, I'll continue posting on that thread but also post pictures and essential research on this one too.

I've masked the bottom of the Airfix Sea Fury to give the wheel wells a few coats of silver , as well the landing gear doors and gear struts and rockets .

One of the wheel lugs was broken off the strut so I just cut a piece of 1.2mm rod and super glued on a replacement lug . Airfix call for Humbrol paints 90 Sky and 123 Extra Dark Sea Grey , I matched those to Gunze Sangyo H-31Whit Green and H-331Dark Sea Grey . I found a pilot and painted him up , I'll glue him into the cockpit later tonight and then the canop on .

Tonka , nice work on the 120mm figure , I look forward to seeing how the battle damaged jeep comes out too .

Greg , the cockpit tub looks great  , the different color knobs and dials really stand out

Gamera , thanks for posting the pic of the B-29 sprue , I suddenly realized I will have to constuct a new display cabinet for the B-29 , the wing span is quite big .

Bondoman , thanks for the link on the crashed PBM Mariner , a very interesting and informative story .

Nice work so far everyone Yes
