Your post got me thinking about looking through my resin aftermarket stash and I found these two seats ;

True details F-80/T-33 and F-101 Voodoo seats

They might be as close as I might get to the real thing , so I'll have a think about using them .

A few weeks back I was browsing the net for another Matchbox Skynight kit and saw a ebay listing from a seller in Honk Kong who had 5 of the kits for sale , if I recall correctly , I think he wanted $50 each .....

BLOODY HELL!  I cruise ebay every day at work, haven't seen one listed, that sold, for over $15.00 or so.  I regularly see them selling for under $10.  I only search for 1/72 kits that are in the US.  I've got a fairly good refined search.  I've seen, and bid, on the Octopus F7F-3N kit, I've not seen it go for UNDER $50.00 though.  And yes, I did bid as high as $50.08 in my attempts.  I also just saw a week or so ago, the Monogram Tigercat with the Cobra Co. resin conversion go for $17.00, which irritated m as that's less than the resin sells for from the company!  Grrrrrr...  Woulda bid on it, but I've already got that.

Anyway, I've got my Skyknight done, will be posting pics and a build review on my website today.

The Mongram Tigercat in my stash andy came from ebay , it was $15 . Not to bad I guess accept the kit was missing one of the tail planes , so I'll scratch up two from some spare B-17 tail planes . I'll probably build her after I build the Skynight .

I've only used ebay the once , Like you I build in 1/72 scale and I go looking for kits on the net all the time ; ebay UK had a Skynight for 25 Pounds , thats about $32 AUS , looks like the seller in Honk Kong has dropped the price to $40 ...

I would much prefer if Revell re-issued one , we can only hope .

Not sure what happened to the decals...  I think that there was too much glue behind them and it all turned white as it dried.  I'm going to see what I can do about that wit a tissue and some different solvents, Windex, rubbing alcohol, etc.  Nothing too harsh!

Most F3D-2 Skynight pic's i have seen in books and magazine's look exactly like the pic you just posted .

The Skynight always seems to appear heavily wethered .

I'll find a couple of pic's and post them .

If you have a LHS that carries model railroad items, there's a product I use to lift decals and/or strip paint called ' ELO' - Easy Lift Off ... applied thinly, it will lift decals ... applied heavily, it will lift paint ...

You might want to see if you can get your hands on some ...

Andy and John: Dang! You guys are tempting me to do a Skynight too!

Sorry about the decal problems Andy. I've never seen decals do that sort of thing. They must have soaked in glue to get that much on the model. Other than Pepper's advice I'm not sure what to do. You might take a little toothpaste on a cotton swab/cotton bud and try to sand it off but I'm not sure that wouldn't make a bigger mess though.

Good luck, I think one of the things that make me the maddest in modeling is when you get the whole bleeding thing done and then something like the decals go wrong at the very end when it's hardest to correct.

John, thanks for posting those great Skynight shots!  I think those True Details seats look the part too.  I was looking at those same ones online also.  I think they would go a long way to dressing up the cockpit. 

If only Revell Germany.....

Does the RoG Skyraider come with Navy or Marines markings, or just air force?  I've been meaning to pick up the Buckeye myself.  It has character.

I have my kids this weekend, so not much modeling for me.

The Revell A-1E kit comes with markings for one USAF 4407 CCTS SOW 1966 and two Navy markings , VA-65 NAS Alameda 1956 [gloss sea blue] and VA-122 NAS Lemoore 1968 [gull gray over white]

I've started collecting some 1/72 scale Navy/Marine Corps trainning aircraft ...

I only have a few kits so far , I'll have to search around and try and find a list of trainning aircraft and see what's available in 1/72 .

Cool!  A Turbo Mentor.  I like those old red and white planes.  A couple of hours south east of here is the US Navy's old training carrier, the Lexington.  I built her as a kid, and I've always liked her airwing.  They had the Turbo Mentors, Buckeyes, TF-9J Twougars.  Thanks for showing the insides of the Skyraider.  Next time I'm at my LHS, I will have to check and see if they have those kits.

As for the Harvard, I think the Navy/Marines called them SNJ's?

Cool stuff, the USAF used them as FACs in Korea bigtime.

Thank's for the link ripcord on the T-6 Texan , that's a great price squadron are offering , so I think I'll pick up some to go with my 1/72 Colorado American T-6 Texan decals...

I wanted to do the mottled camo of green over silver for a Korean War USAF T-6 based at Taegu , Korea 1951 as well as a upper olive drab over silver underside version . There is also a SNJ-4 Naval Air Reserve 1950 . I think I'll order four of the birds  .

If you can get them for a decent price (they're only about 5oooW here in Korea), the Academy bird is a fantastic build!  Practically falls together out of the box, nice detail, and my only complaint is the decals not having enough glue to hold them (yeah, decals are an issue with me.).  Should be tons of them laying around on shop shelves.  They were the only fixed wing 'fighter' in the south's armory when the war broke out (they got the F-51's shortly after).I've built two so far, they're a dream to build.  The markings for it that come with the kit for the RoKAF are for a spotter bird from the Seoul area during the latter half of the war.

I wasn't even aware that they had been painted like that during the war...

Hey Andy , I forgot about Academy's 1/72 Texan ;

I built one a couple of years ago and finished her IAF markings....

I check the LHS tomorrow for the Academy kit , they usually go for around $10-$12 and if they don't have any I'll go ahead and order the Revell kits from squadron .

Well its only been a week since my last post and two pages have gone past, WOW. Gamera your K1A1 is looking good.

Havn't made alot of progress but have done some. (To many end of year/christmas activities to taake the kids to). Fit on this kit is below par for what I expect from Dragon, very dissapointed. Done some sanding and filling so far but there will be much more before I'm finished.

I just noticed that Greatmodels has the Academy T-6 on sale for $7.05.  If I can sneak it (and a few other things like their USMC crusader) past the wife, I might get one too.  I would like to do one with the squiggle camo over the metal finish.  Weird, that I would try that over a USMC one?  Sorry, Chesty, wherever you are....

Andrew , that's a good start on the Dragon tank . I hope she goes together with out too many hassels .

I did notice that the Revell T-6 kit comes with underwing gun pods , Academy's doesn't , other than that they both appear very similar .

Greg , I don't think I have ever seen a two seat Couger before ; I was looking at the stash last night and saw two Hobbyboss TA-7C Corsair , I have some nice Xtradecals to go on them , one with a pirate with an eye patch on the tail fin . I'll have to put together a list of Navy/Marine trainners and see what else I come up with .

I'm making good progress on my CIA builds and I have managed to do a little more on the C-46 Commando and C-47 Skytrain , both of those will probably have some type of silver finish like the "Air America" birds I'm working on , so hopfully I can spray them at the same time . I was thinking of painting the underside of the C-47 black and calling her a 'Flare Ship' but I don't have any squadron logo's I see in my reference books to use .....pitty

John, you could alwasy paint them olive drab over gray ... I've seen lots of C-47's painted that way with invasion stripes on them ... have seen at least one C-46 in OD/gray ... but, that's really pretty plain, doncha think ? ...

Here's a page from one of my books showing some T-6 Texans and a C-47 Flare Ship ;

The number 21 on the C-47 is a little unusual as it more of the RAF style numbers than the US 45 degree style .

I have plenty of Alphabet sheets of both US and RAF styles , Black ,White , Yellow and Red but nothing that looks like the words "We Go 2" and those little red parachutes on the nose .

I'll keep searching around , I might find some lettering to suit .

Well I managed to pic up a couple of Academy's T-6 Texan's from the LHS today along with a $5 Hobbyboss Texan .

I'll use the Colorado decals on the two Academy kits , one mottled green over silver and the other olive drab over silver . I had the Revell T-6 already in the stash and she comes with Korean War markings .

The Hobbyboss kit is very basic , with the fuselage and wings pre-assembled , however there are no cockpit consols or control sticks and that little "A" frame that fits between both cockpits is not included , shouldn't be to difficult to scratch some up using the other kits as a guide . The Hobbyboss kits comes with Korean War markings as well...

I'll pick up a couple of those Revell Texan kits as I have some Isradecals for the IDF T-6 Texans and while I'm looking at Squadron I'll see what Navy/Marine trainners are available .

Andrew: Thanks and your M26 is looking good. Sorry to hear about the fit problems but it is one of Dragon's older models so I'm not too surprised. Well as I seen enough AFV guys say 'if all else fails either toss some mud on it or put a tarp over it'.

I've been going to do my Commando in NMF with RoKAF markings and the Gonneybird in NMF with the Arctic Red Tip markings as a USAF supply bird.  Ala the C-119 Box Cars.

Workbench and garage now being kept locked off from the cat :-) ...

Canopy is now masked and paint goes on in about 10 minutes ... some detail work behind the seat, as well as painting the landing gear struts ...  then the OD anti-glare panel, front and rear - why would you have anti-glare behind the cockpit is beyond me ... last but not least, finish up with the decals that I am going to use ...

My LHS is out of T-6's.  Darn.  Instead I bought a Funny Car.  It is going to be a little harder to sneak in the house than a 1/72 airplane!

With any luck, I will be decaling my F-82 tomorrow!  I have parent teacher conferences in the a.m., then, as far as I know, a free day!
