These were the "floaters" in the box. No damage. The just fell off the sprue.
The detailing looks great and from what I have read of Italeri helo kits it should go together quite well. I am looking forward to starting this.

This is my ICM 1/48 F-51d #328 Of the South African Air Force 2 sqn (flying cheetahs) at K10 Chinhae Korea.
Flown by lt. Muller who became chief of the saaf later.
Yellow drop tanks were napalm.

Partial builds needing completion are allowed. You will just have to wait to collect your badge until we have a finalized one... I guess I should have started that sooner... no excuses on my part aside from laziness...

Simpilot and STFD637: The young lady's name (westernized) is Mina Shin if you want to google for more photos. I haven't seen any that aren't work safe- though they may not be wife safe! I have to admit the photo I posted doesn't do her justice as she has a pair of truly spectacular legs...

Looks like family problems are going to interfere with my build for a bit, I have no idea when I'll be able to start on it. I will keep everyone posted if and when I start construction

Theuns, yes, an SAAF is definitely in order since the Mustang was done so quickly. After all, the rest of us have a long way to go and Next July is an even longer way off!

I have made a little more progress on the 1/72 scale Invader .
A bit of black paint to some of the interior pieces , some silver on the wheels and engines and I glued the wing halves together .
Last night I was digging around the spares box and found this old 1/72 Airfix Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star...
Part of the front gear strut is broken and I'm missing one of the main gear struts ; Does anyone know if there is aftermarket replacement landing gear struts available in 1/72 scale ?
I also found the decal sheet for the 'Saggin Dragon' 16th FIS , 51st FIW USAF Suwon Air base , Korea 1951.
It would be great if I could get this bird back together , I really like the decal markings ...

nice work everyone, hey um i have a request. Does anyone have a spare 48 scale corsair control stick i can pinch? Carpet monster ate mine. I painted it, looked at the tv, turned back, gone, i cleaned my entire desk and surrounding area looking for it and its just...gone...poof...vanished into thin air.

Is this GB of craft that actually served in Korea only or does it include the planes that was used for training the crew that went to Korea. ie.in 1950 the SAAF used Spitfire mk9 to train before flying the f-51's in korea (in SA though)

This GB is for subjects that were actually in theater either involved in or supporting combat operations during the war. The subject of the kit has to have been physically present in Korea, Japan, China, Manchuria, or surrounding waters and in some way be tied in.
Well I should be able to save my modeling desk. Might be able to start building next week. Unfortunatly my brother is moving back in with his family (for reasons we will not discuss). So a lot of things have to be rearranged in the house which is limiting my space in my room so the model table was on the chopping block but I think I've figured out a way to keep it.

All my aircraft models are built with the wheels down , so I was hoping I could find some replacement gear .
Hannants in the UK had the Aires F-80 PE for the Airfix kit and I saw a Pavala resin seat so I ordered those along with Trumpeter's M4A3E8 Korea tank with T80 track , I haven't built armor before so this might be a good starting point , I also ordered some 1/72 scale F-86E USAF Korea decals for a Sabre thats also in the spares box and some A-1H Skyraider decals for the USMC in Korea and a T-6 Texan kit with USAF korea markings ...
Psycho, I hope things work out for you. Family issued are never easy. The bench is where most of us collect our thoughts. I hope you are able to get building soon.
Helo, what kind of "spares" box are you using? My spares box only has extra tires and missles and fiddly bits. I haven't found an entire kit in there yet.
I will probably start the HRS-2 next week.

I have building kits for about 20 years now , when I got my first airbrush and compressor seven years ago I decided to strip the hand paint brushed finish on some earlier builds and give them a airbrush paint finish . So far I must of completed nearly twenty re-builds with another ten or so other aircraft and helicopters waiting to be put back together . I also bag all the unused parts from every kit and save them as well , I have built well over 150 model kits ; Lot's of spares I guess...
I was looking through my stash and came across a Glencoe 1/72 scale Bristol Sycamore helicopter kit . I don't have a lot of reference material about Australia's contribution to the Korean War other than finding a small broucher form the Naval Aviation Museum HMAS Albatross , it mentions that in september 1951 HMAS Sydney with Sea Furys and Firefly's aboard replaced the British Ship HMS Glory in the Korean theater . I been trying to find out wether any Sycamore's were on board as plane guards , I keep thinking that somewhere I have seen pic a silver finish Sycamore from around 51-53 patroling Korean waters ???
It would be nice to add a Australian bird to the Korean GB .
John, I have a couple of picture books on the air war over Korea. In them, I remember some photos of HMAS Sydney. I think it might of even shown a helicopter. I don't remember what type. When I get home from work tomorrow (I am a firefighter, so I stay overnight at work) I will look it up. If it is indeed, I'll scan the picture, so you can see the markings. If I also remember right, the Sydney's airwing dropped/fired an impressive amount of ordinance during their tour. G'day mate. Sorry, I had to say that.
