Page 2... no way!
A little progress here with the P-59. The control sufaces on the kit are posable so I decided to drop the flaps. There were big gaps at the wing seam that you could see if the flaps were to be lowered so I filled them with some styrene sheet and rod.
No before pics but it looks much better!
The nose is clear because there is a large landing light in the center. When test fitting it, it just didn't look right with a blank space behind the lens so I made a landing light out of scrap styrene and glued it inside. Hard to see but it's in there. Sorry no pics of how I made it as I was zooming along.
The next step will be rescribing some lost panel lines and putting her together. That's all for now!
Jeremy
Thansk guys!
Gamera - Tease, tease, tease us!!! I think Kikka pics are a must!
I'm doing my best to stay focused on my 162, but my Wingnut Wings Albatros D.V arrived just a few days ago and those kits can be more than a bit distracting (face it, they're awesome!!). Just may have to pick up another of their offerings to keep it company in the stash for the time being.
Gamera, I'm really looking forward to seeing the pics of the Kikka! Should have a few more to post myself of the 162 pretty soon too.
Mike
"We have our own ammunition. It's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes pretty pictures....scares the hell outta people."
WOW! What a great job on the 229 and the Mig!
I'm stuck here doin' Army stuff for a while so it will be a while before I can get anything done. At least I can watch from the wings to help me stay motivated while I am away.
Mac
I Didn't do it!!!
Julez72 some fine looking builds on these pages, great work Gents
some fine looking builds on these pages, great work Gents
Top work fellas!!!
Jeremy your CR.42 looks great mate!!!! Never saw the finished pics!!! Remember the start though!!!
Rudd your Pfalz is a gem!!! Looks Great!!!
Richard- great looking GO-229! Someday I'd love to do one up in Italian or Japanese colours. Hey, it's a hypothetical aircraft so Germany's allies could have build some under license right?
Hawkeye- the MiG looks fantastic! Ready to take on Richard's flying wing!
Mike- love the Pfalz! I too have always been scared off by the rigging on those cool Great War biplanes.
Jeremy- the P-59 is coming along great. If she looks half as good as the Italian seaplane and the Fw-190 she'll be a winner.
I finished off the underside of the Kikka. Unfortunately I forgot to take some photos before I masked it. Will take some when I get the uppers done and before I start the decaling.

Jeremy, I've heard nothing but good things about that EZ Line stuff but have yet to try it, so I ordered about 100' of the grey stuff (the .003" size) on eBay. My Pfalz was done with elastic monofilament thread that I had to paint once installed - never again will I go that route.
...and I must say, very nice work on the 190!
Thanks Ruddratt!
I use EZ line for rigging and antennas. Amazing stuff in my eyes because it stretches. I squirt some super glue out on a paper plate, with tweezers I dip one end of the EZ line in the super glue and hold it in place on the model until the glue sets enough to hold the line. I then cut the EZ line just a little short. Dap a toothpick in the super glue and touch it to the other end of the line. With tweezers, I stretch the EZ line to where it is mounted and wait for the glue to set. Probably not the easiest way to rig a plane but it works for me.
I recently got a tip from Richie (simpilot) that you can separate the EZ line into smaller threads (not easy) for smaller scales. I tried it on my FW-190 antenna for the current Reich Defender GB and it looks pretty good. Nice and thin.
I must say though, your rigging looks better than mine!
I know.
Thanks much, fellas!
Mike, if you've been waiting for the right time to take the biplane plunge, this is it! Those Wingnut Wings kits are amazing!
Jeremy, not an Albatros (my favorite WWI bird), but a Pfalz D.IIIa (my second favorite ). Wingnut Wings is planning on releasing one of them as well, so you can bet I'll be grabbing one.
...and yes, the engine on the 162 will be fully exposed. Tamiya did a great job recreating it - all I needed to add was some wiring and plumbing here and there.
Very nice work on your bipe as well!! I'm very curious as to your rigging technique - it looks flawless.
Kermit - Nice quicky my friend! The Horton brothers were madmen to create that thing! I have the 1/48 Dragon kit in the stash that I should build some day. BTW... I too would like to see a full camo MiG-15 get the Kermit treatment.
Hawkeye - Good job on the little MiG! I have to say, it came out looking better than I thought it would after seeing the box contents! The metal finish looks great.
Ruddratt - Your biplane looks really good. I'm not too familiar with planes of that era, but is that an Albatross? Like most people, I'm not a fan of rigging so I like to keep it simple when doing a biplane. Not of the same era but here is the last one I built...
The salamander engine looks amazing! I would guess that you'll be leaving the cover open?
Ruddratt -- I doff my cap, sir, that biplane is a work of art! Rigging and all -- an area I have yet to plumb but hope to one day!
Beautiful engine, can't wait to see what it goes into!
On the Home Front, I've got main structure for this resin what-if bomber done, and as the editor's deadline is the end of the month it'll be off the bench in a few days. The final round of filler just went into the junctures of the nuclear engines, and I should be spraying in a while... I'll post a gallery shot to all the group builds I'm supposed to be in to let everyone know why I'm noticeable by my absence lately!
Cheers, Mike/TB379

Man oh man, there's some great stuff on display here ---
Kermit, you are a machine!! That is one stunning build, and the mind boggles at the timeframe in which you attained such amazing results. Two big thumbs up for that one!
Hawkeye, I love that MiG! It's darn refreshing to see a build of that quality AND of a subject as rare as that. Nicely done!
On this front, I've been modeling away. First, I needed to get this little 1/48 Eduard gem of a kit completed, basically as a warm up for when my Wingnut Wings D.V Albatros eventually shows up.....
...but nevertheless I have still been able to pick away at my entry for this GB as well. Work on the 'pit has commenced, and the engine is now complete....
Never said Phoenix was an excuse! In fact, since I came back, I started six more projects while working on the five I previously had going before Phoenix. I'll get them done!
Thank you very much everyone! I really appreciate all the kind words, its certainly not show winner but its a great addition to my collection.I could point out every imperfection but I suppose that is what we do, always trying to improve our craft. Every kit I build my repertoire is expanding,
This was my first "short run" kit and looking at at the start I wasn't very confident I was going to build something decent but aside from the cockpit most of the parts fit very well and needed only minor clean up. It was a little work but most definitely much less than I expected if anyone is interested in the subject I would recommend it. I might have to try a couple more of these Amodel "short runs" they aren't as intimidating as they once were.
Hawkeye
Seconding the motion, Hawkeye, well done! I'm impressed by the aerosol finish, the paint went on very smoothly indeed, and took the decals well. Great lineup!
Badges later today hopefully!
Hawkeye, very nice mig indeed... I thought you said you had limited skills!! Your modeling skills look impressive to me...Well done
Well get cracking on it Mark! The Nationals being in Phoenix is no excuse... The daylight hours are getting shorter now...
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Great Job on the finished aircraft guys! They look great! I haven't been to the bench in a while; otherwise I'd have probably finished sooner than the Kermit. My apologies for that; sometimes life just gets in the way. I'll post more progress when I can get to it.
Hawkeye she came out really nice!!! Nice lil vignette you have there.
Hey guys like I promised the MiG-9 is finished. Hope you enjoy it!
My tack n' stick didn't work Oh well It just needed a lot more weight in the nose.
It's pretty rough but im pretty satisfied with the outcome.
And as a bonus lol here it is next my other MiG's
In the background two of my cats, they are sun worshipers!
Anyways hope you enjoyed my build and the outcome as i said I'm pretty well satisfied with the outcome, another aircraft to my little soviet/russian collection I'm building.
Thanks!
WOW Richard!!! She turned out great!!!! Well done mate!!! Love all the colors!!
Kermit -- MiG-15, definitely! One of those Chinese multi-tone camo jobs? Bring it on!
I'm making up the GB badges and there's a MiG-15 badge among the selection!
Cheers, always great to have you aboard! Mike/TB379
Thunderbolt,
Thanks to you and everybody else for your attaboys. It was a fun and delightful "quickie" for me to do after having done and being busy on several harder and longer term projects. Guess i needed it
By no means do i intend to make someone else look bad or try to be a showoff or something. In fact, there is enough flaws to point out on my build that could have been avoided had i taken twice the time but again, just felt like a quickie and your group was too interesting to pass onto
Will give a second build a thought or two... not sure yet... Do mig 15's pass the early criteria? Always wanted to do a mig 15 with anything other than a metal finish....
Richard

Kermit -- Page 1 updated. I dunno, last in, first finished, there's a lesson for us slow builders in this!
Thanks for taking part. Wanna build something else while you're here? It's got a long way to go!
Kermit - Awesome job on the GO 229 I haven't done a Revell kit for a long time but this will make me reconsider.
Hawkeye - Your NMF turned out really good from the rattle can. Nothing wrong with using the rattle cans. I had a airbrush when I was a teenager but it mysteriously disappeared. When I got back into the hobby I built for several years painting with rattle cans before investing in another airbrush.
I'll be attending our monthly club meeting tomorrow evening. That will motivate me to get back to work on the Fury this weekend.
Tom
Kermit -- good heavens, so this is the much-talked-about process of kermification -- started and finishd, to high standard, in the blink of an eye! She's a beauty, I bought this one for a GB last year but never got past the earliest cleanup and pre-paint. I wish I'd gone ahead and done her, but there was, as always, so much else happening (my PhD was in progress at the time -- shudder...) Oh, the big nosewheel was due to the engines being mounted so far forward, it was the main weight bearing contact point. Well, I better get my finger out and make up some badges, I'm caught on the hop! I'll update page 1 with your completed build later today.
Hawkeye -- great work on a fascinating type! The MiG-9 has been so far overlooked that most folks imagine the -15 was their first jet, and that's unfair to a huge body of work that went before. It's not an easy kit, that's for sure, and it's great to see it come together.
Richard the 229 looks great! Nice to see that late war scheme on one of those beauties, I really like the large shields on the wings, really sets it off! Nice job! Makes em want to pull mine off the holding area and finish it up.
I've gotten pretty far on the MiG here is an update, I hope to have it done tonight or sometime tomorrow but I won't rush it its pretty close though.
Before I closed it up i had to make sure there was enough weight in the nose, every example I've seen built has had to use a prop rod to keep it on the nose wheel. I used tack n' stick adhesive to weigh it down. Unfortunately I don't have anything heavier like fishing weights or shot lead. I had to get creative and use quite a bit to get it right, I'm still not sure if it'll sit correctly though :fingers crossed:
Closed up, had to putty a little bit of a seam in the front.
Wings on.
The underside.
Here it is with coat of Tamiya Bare Metal Silver, I'm not well off and live in a small apartment so unfortunately i don't have a airbrush so i used a rattle can. i coated the canopy with future before masking and painting, it helped but this kit would benefit from a vacuform canopy.
Thanks for looking,
Ok, here are the pics as promised. Hope you guys like how she turned out...
Undersides...
And took a moment to get a nice sepia tone in as well
All in all this was a great little kit to build... Cheap, great fitting parts, easy to build and lotsa fun to do a german camo job for the first time. I would certainly recommend this kit to anyone interested in a small scale model of this interesting subject.
Thanks for watching and your comments were as always much appreciated,
Most certainly i am done with her. Finished her last night. Too late to take pictures. Will get the shots done tonight so you can see her decalled and powdered up[;0]
cheers,
