I would like to be included in this GB. I have a Boulton Paul Defiant NF.1 from Airfix and an Me-262 B-1a/U1 Nightfighter from Revell in the stash. I don't know which one I will build, but both are in 1/72.  It will also be a while before I can start construction on whichever craft I choose.

OWL, I use maybe and "egg and a half" total,,( that includes what I used to make the line on the leading edges) silly putty will roll out pretty thin and small.. its real easy to use.. and can be reused afterwards,, just roll and squish it all back in a ball.. ready to go again..

p38jl like the cammo scheme,you're wing is coming along nicely!

the Canopy fit required a little tweaking and the pe around the side windows did'nt help.The pe armor trim around the front was a write off(did'nt get the top bend correct) except the sides

Ernest, the Uhu is looking great!  I like your base.  That is really cool how you had the grass growing through the cracks.  That is a neat touch.

Trey, that looks phenomenal.  If I build one half as good as yours, I will be ecstatic.

P38 the Horten is looking great too!  I liked  the way you used the silly putty.  Cool technique.  I was thinking of doing the same thing to an Bf-109 I have in the to-do pile.

It has come to my addition that my P-70 has some glaring omissions, and inaccuracies.  I was hoping for a straight forward build.  Oh well, it will just take a little longer.  The main things are that the exhaust is for a later model Havoc, and where the intercoolers are supposed to be, is an open space in the main gear wells.  The easy thing would be to just blank off the scoop, but I know that won't happen!  I am going to wait on the Verlinden engines before I attempt the exhaust mod.  Doesn't look too hard.  The Verlinden set is supposed to be one complete engines and two faces.  If it is feasible, I am going to use the complete engine on one side.  This build is getting more complicated, as I was only planning on using True Details wheels and raft.  If it comes out half as good as what you guys have already posted, it will be great.

Trey, really nice work on the 110.  The mottling especially looks very, very good; as do the rusted exhuasts and flame suppressors.

P39jl, the camo work is exceptional on the Horten!  Good idea using silly putty as a "templete".  The Horten would fit right in at Area 51 wouldnt it?Alien

Greg, sounds like you have a bit of a beast on your hands.  If it is any consolation, it can't be as bad as the Hobbycraft DO17Z2, what a nightmare! 

I don't have any build pictures as all I have been doing is some general construction of sub-assemblys and attaching the wings and tailplane to the fuselage.  Nothing really picture worthy.  The picture below is of Lt Heinz Strüning.  The plane I am building will represent his during mid-summer 1944.  A short bio follows the picture.

Heinz Strüning was born on 13 January 1912 at Neviges in Rheinland. He joined the Luftwaffe in 1935. On 2 August 1939, Strüning was posted to ZG 26, being assigned to 5./ZG 26.   Strüning began training as a night fighter pilot on 1 July 1940. On completion of his training he was posted to 1./NJG 2, spending the next 30 months with this unit .  He flew 66 intruder missions over England, and recorded his first night victory on the night of 23/24 November 1940 when he shot down an RAF Wellington twin-engine bomber.   He was to record 20 victories at night, by mid September 1942, when he was promoted to the rank of Leutnant.   

Leutnant Strüning was awarded the Ritterkreuz on 29 October for 24 victories.   He was then transferred to 8./Nachtjagdschule 1 as an instructor.   Strüning returned to NJG 2 and combat duty in April 1943.  He was assigned to 4./NJG 2 based in Sicily, where he flew 20 missions in the Mediterranean theatre up to May 1943.  In May 1943, Strüning was transferred to 2./NJG 1, scoring his first victory with this unit on the night of 27/28 May, claiming a RAF Mosquito twin-engine bomber shot down for his 29th victory.  He shot down three RAF Lancaster four-engine bombers on the night of 24/25 June (33-35).   On 1 July 1943, Strüning was transferred to 3./NJG 1, where he was appointed Staffelkapitän on 15 August.   On the night of 30/31 August, Strüning claimed three British bombers shot down flying the new He 219 twin-engine night fighter (38-40).   

From 17 April 1944, Strüning was to fly the He 219 exclusively and obtained his last 14 victories flying the type, including a Mosquito on the night 18/19 July.   Hauptmann Strüning was awarded the Eichenlaub (Nr 528) for 56 victories on 20 July.   On 1 September, Strüning took command of 9./NJG 1.   On the night of 24/25 December 1944, Strüning was shot down by an RAF intruder in Bf 110 G-4 (W.Nr. 740 162) “G9+CT”.   He baled out but struck the tail of the stricken fighter and fell to his death.   His body was not found until two months later.    

Heinz Strüning was credited with 56 victories in 280 missions, of which 250 missions were flown at night. All his victories were recorded at night.

Ernest, interesting bio.  NF pilots are an interesting breed.  I can only imagine the skill, instinct and bravery it took the pioneers in Night Fighting.  Even in peace time, the weather and darkness can conspire against them in a deadly way.  No margin for error.

Trey, I ran out of adjectives, so forgive my repetitiveness.  Your 110 is awesome!

My Verlinden engines came in the mail today.  I am washing them with Bleche White.  They look ok.  I've also been working on the intercoolers, and trying to add some wheel well detail.  I'm thinking I might need some p.e. for some of the details.  I spent a few hours on some stuff with thin plasticard, and it still looked out of scale.  Maybe sheet aluminum???

Great Wall should be releasing this NF version of their 189 kit soon...I have the basic version and it already has all the parts you need for the NF version except for the radar antennae already in the box...

My P-47's off the bench so I should be starting the Mossie soon. Just want to get the 109 more into the assembly phase so I don't fall into the trap I've been in of having multiple builds, but having them all at about the same stage. Sucks when you have three kits to paint and it rains...

Trey, Fantastic! The 110 looks stunning and the photo's are great. Nice work on the engine nacelles, turned out VERY nice. Those Eduard mask really look like the ticket for a multi-pane canopy. Yours came out nice indeed.

I got some work done on the Bf-110. It was actually nice cause I had a major crisis on my Viper for my own GB and was able to step away and think the problem through while getting some stuff done on this kit.

I added the ammo belt from foil (i use the foil cover from Costco coffee. It is thick and easy to cut down to small strips.) not sure how much will be visible when the canopy goes on but....!

That's t for now. I also have the engines mounted to the wings. They will need some filling and sanding. More pics to come.

Travis, that looks good.  It doesn't look 72nd scale at all!  I recommend that you enlarge the pictures when you look at Travis's 110.  I like the added belt detail.

Andrew, your Nighthawk is coming along good.  You are the only non-WWII build going so far.  Thanks for mixing it up.  It also looks nice for an especially small scale.

HVH, alright!  Looking forward to what you do with the Uhu.  I'm sure I'll learn some new ways to do things as always.

As for my P-70.... Trey, I like the beer can metal idea, but I didn't have any cans, and I got impatient and ordered an Eduard set.  I tried with sheet aluminum, but it was too thick, and I screwed up my templates while trying to cut the metal.  As for my engine problem, I got the Verlinden engine set in the other day.  It looks nice.  It would require a bit of clean-up, but still it looks nice.  The bad news is that while test fitting and comparing, it is too wide to fit in the cowl.  It would require some serious skills (that I don't have) to make it work.  Vacu-forming part of the cowl to a realistic thickness, and shortening all the cylinder heads a little bit would work and make it displayable.  Alas, I don't vacu-form, yet.  I will get there eventually, just waaaay too much going on at home to find the time to develop that.  Of course, if I had the time and money, I would have just learned to make a resin copy of the good kit engine!  I am just going to modify some of the cylinder heads to fix the deformed engine.
