Gregbear: Please pull me off this build.

Jbrady, you are pulled off.  Sorry to see you go.  I hope everything is alright.

p38il, you are in with your Ho-229B, welcome aboard!

Sorry to hear that the Ju-88 is such a bear.  It sure looks great!  I have one of the new orange box releases in the stash, I guess I can look forward to some work when I get to it.

Cheers,

Greg

Woot! Just scored an Aires cockpit for my Mossie NF.II on eBay! $19 shipped!

Depending on how another auction goes, I might consider adding a second Mossie to this GB as an NF.II Night Intruder.

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Ernest, Greg, Nightfighter nut- Great interiors! i love the subjects being built for this group build.

Trey- i'm glad to here the eduard fit is good so far. i'm at the same stage on the dragon 88 and im not so lucky. there is steps/gaps at the engine nacelle to wing fit so i had to fill with styrene and then shave and sand it off. got lots of gaps to fill and sand yet, and i haven't even tried to fit the canopy yet which i hear is a bear.

Thanks for the comments guys.  For those of you worrying about being able to match the quality of other's work or "keep up", don't.  It all about having fun, and each of us defines what exactly that means.  This is just the third group build I have taken part in, and I have found that both the comraderie and learning was fantastic in the the first two.

Here is the latest on the "Uhu".   The cockpit is sprayed an RLM 66 color with the details handpainted.  I have also sprayed a couple of coats of Future to prep the bash coat for a wash.  I usually use Lifecolor paints, but in this case opted for Tamiya's NATO Black mixed with Flat White at 75/25, which I think matches RLM 66 pretty closely after drybrushing.

Very nice work---I think your RLM66 mix is a tad dark, but it may just be the lighting...Yes

Fantastic builds everybody!  Ze Jermenz are well represented here.  Those Uhu pics are awesome too.

Trey, you are cruising through that 110, yet it looks like a museum quality build.

As for my P-70, I haven't got as much as I would have liked done.  It is waay busier than a Monday should be at work.  I am almost done with the cockpit, but I forgot my weathering powders at home.  I thought I would try and dirty it up.  The plane flew off of a dirt strip in New Guinea, so I thought I would try some new stuff with the powders.

Keep 'em coming, they're great.

Cheers,

Greg

the fit was pretty spot on, just a little putty on the port wing and a real small amount on the right, big relief after the nightmare He177 fit problems.

anybody know how much of a gap there was on the engine nacelle to wing fit there was, if any? I ca'nt really tell from the research pics the gaps are uniform but seem to be a tad big to meHmm

I guess I better decide on my kit, I've been looking forward to this GB but the start date just kind of snuck up on me.

basic test fit of the airframe shows very little filling is going to be required

Doogs, the Zoom Pe sets are great, low cost and alittle goes along way i've found. Too much AM can be overwhelming and slow down the build. thats what i did with the 88, i just got a zoom set. But sometimes all that AM stuff is necessary.

hey Doogs ,I was able to locate this source for decals hope it helps

PERFECT! Thanks!

Now I just need to decide how crazy I want to go with the AM stuff. I'd planned to keep this one fairly out of the box, but hmm....

Now...do I go with something simple like an Eduard Zoom PE set, or whole hog with an Aires cockpit and Aires engines (and save one for an FB.VI down the road)?

Nathan, Making great progress on the Ju 88.Yes I was considering that kit, but opted for the FW. Looking forward to seeing progress updates.

Stumpjumper, Paint brushes are crucial. Can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, but at least the stitching will look o kWink Lighting is important in both photography and painting. I have 2 task lights and I still end up squinting to see. Makes me wonder how the small scale builders turn'em out. Anyway, point is I'm still practicing both painting and photography.

Hercmech, Stick with it and don't underestimate yourself. Remember Rule #5 it's about having fun.

Greif, wow! the Aeries pit is VERY COOLYes. Tons of detailBig Smile. Looking forward to seeing this one come to life! Not sure what to use for weights, Perhaps fishing sinkers. Tried it on the P38, but ended up fishing instead.

Trey,  Did find and bookmark a cool website with a ton of photo's both wartime and museum.

 Thanks again for the comments.

 Hercmech:

I am building the Taymia J1N. It looks like a nice kit and all the usual subjects were already covered.

State of the art kit there, I built one a couple of years ago and it falls together. You'll enjoy this one Toast

I have my fingers crossed.

Man Trey...looking good, but making the rest of us look badBig Smile. At the rate you are going you will have that thing done by the end of the week. Then what are you going to do for the rest of the build time?

Wish I could build with the quality I am seeing here, then to add insult to injury you guys are building them better at your speed than I could ever hope for even if I took all year to do mine.

I hope to start my J1N build here soon...as soon as I get that P-39 weekend build that is taking me forever to do.

thanks Hercmech looking forward to seeing the J1N get going, and this is my last day of vacation so my build will slow drastically after today lol.

Mo - love that cockpit. How did you paint so much detail so neatly - do you use a pin or something? Also, your photos are always so well lit - what's the secret?!

Keep it up - am enjoying all the work posted so far by everyone. Very inspiring.

Hercmech

I have to agree with the quality of work here. this being my first group build I am wondering if I bit of more than I can chew.Indifferent

Hercmech - I'm just finishing my first group build (FW190). I was a little hesitant about entering but it was the best thing I ever did. I got so much encouragement and advice and have developed my modelling skills significantly because of it.

Good luck with this - what are you building?
