Falklands/Malvinas War 30th Anniversary GB

Got a question for the jet experts out there...

Yesterday I picked up a Heller 1/72 Étandard Mk IVm. (raised panel lines, minimal cockpit detail, looks like decent fit though and the glass is actually quite good!) How much of a difference is there between this and the Super Étandard? My quick search makes it sound like it was mostly avionics. If I have time I may add this to the list w/ Argentine markings.

The main visible difference is the nose.The 4M has a very thin and sharp nose with a big strake on the underside; the Soo-E has a rounder nose with a bullet shape to it. IMO a deal killer.

The 4M was an important Frenchie shipbourne fighter though and that's a nice model.

I don´t know about all the diferences, but the nose cone isn´t the same (maybe it´s related with the thing you said about avionics)

If you want check the web for aerocalcas aftermarket decals (out of production now, but I belive that a Canadian shop still have some sets) and also you will have to get a set of the heller´s or academy´s kits of the SUE with Argentinian decals (the aerocalcas is complementary and have some replacements to that kit)

If you can get the Academy Super Etendard kit, it´s cheap, easy to find, reccesed panel lines and it have Argentinian decals, (poor ones but better than nothing...)

bondoman - yep, once I started looking at some good comparison photos I realized the nose is quite different. Like el_jere said, it probably has to do with the new avionics. (One source mentioned a navalized radar - similar changes from the Harrier to Sea Harrier)

I'll see how long I take with the 2 kits I already have for this GB before deciding whether to do any surgery on the Heller kit. I'm not sure that I want to get into too much modifying with this one, it is actually a really nice little kit already, and I can't say I have anything on my shelf with French markings.

SuE has a search radar, the original just a ranging radar. Frankly I'm in awe that the SuE was a single seater; he would have been a very busy man. These little older jet models are really idiosyncratic. One will have a fine fuselage but no cockpit, the next will have crappy wings but  nice gear. In a quest to build a nice Mirage III I ended up with the Heller, the Airfix (ex- Frog I think) and the Revell ones.

Friends of the forum I am looking for planes of the Avro Vulcan B Mk 2 / Mk 2K, to modify the vulcan of lindber that I have, and without anybody a photo of the basins has for the missiles anti radar.

VanceCrozier  you agradezco by the photos, estan very good.

I ask them the help of the planes because this is the kit that have, is the one of lindber 1/96,  and by what saw in some photos that saw the the web are distinct versions.
aca Leave them some photos of the kit of the vulcan.

bondoman, el_jere.... I just did what any good modeler does when faced with a "wrong version" problem...

I went & bought another.  When I picked up the Étandard, I thought there were two of the same kit there. After your comments & looking at a couple of pictures I realized the boxes look almost the same. So I went back & looked - sure enough, the other box was a Super-E, complete with Exocet missile. It still only came with French decals though, I'll have to checkou out those aerocalcas decals, I do remember seeing them listed on one of the sites I visit.

I picked up the Airfix Harrier FRS.1 with Falklands markings on eBay, so that'll be wending its way to me at some point (only paid half as much as the kit is on the shelf here in Aus, even with postage I'll be into pocket.) I'll keep watching for a Pucara to join it, and if I can find the right variant of Skyhawk I might invest in some Aztec decals...

Hey Mike - is that the 1/72 kit? I already have that one in hand, looks like a nice little kit, the only issue I see are the panel lines being a little wider that needed, everything else looks good.

At the moment there is a 1/72 Special Hobby Pucara at Australian Ebay for a very good price.

The kit is the same of Airfix but with resins and PE.

I have the 1/72 Airfix BAe Nimrod in my stash. I'd really like to join in this GB and have at it!

Problem is I'm right in the middle of another GB( see "Shiver Me Timbers") and don't know if I can finish this in time. I can try, can't I?

Gotcha - and we've got a good long build period too, should be lots of time. First Nimrod on the GB list if I'm not mistaken. We're getting a good range of subjects here.

Hi guys, seems this thread is coming along nicely since the other one was left behind. Afraid my net time has been limited. I usually take my laptop into work andget on from there but that source has been closed dowm. So no i am limited to 45 mins a day, assuming i can get on at all. So means alot of catching up when i can get on.

Nice list of kits been added, a Vulcan in 1/96th, now thats a scale you don't come across often. And a Nimrod as well. Things are looking good. I know there are still a few people who put their hands up on the intial thread and have yet to pop into this one, hopefully once it gets going they will come on board. Be nice to have some figures built for this GB as well.

Ahhhh - that's the guy! I remember the site now that I've seen it again, thanks for that Jeremias. I was in that shop again on Friday, no A-4s to be had yet, there are still more in their storage room & he will be bringing more out every weekend. I'll keep watching for you in case I can find a deal.

HA! I spotted a 1/72 Vulcan at my "old kits source" yesterday, one of the old Airfix kits. Trying to resist... I'd have to put it somewhere after building it...

I don't remember though if it comes with standard bomb bay doors, but I think it does. Mine on the shelf here has the Blue Steel weapon semi-recessed into the bottom of the plane. She's also an attractive overall white with anti-flash markings (comes with kit ).

The intakes are an absolute nightmare. There would be no shame in putting FOD covers in there immediately. And it has no jet pipes, but that's an easy job with brass tubing.

arghh - you're not helping, trying to talk myself out of it! My only resolution this year was to "build out of the stash until a serious chunk is gone..." Then the shop across the road closed down, forcing me to buy a couple because they were on sale... then this motherload of neat old kits shows up... In addition to all those cool old Heller/Airfix kits I've since grabbed a pair of ProModelers and a pair of Italeris!

(But they were reallllly good deals in my opinion!)

There is still a Ta-152 in there from Italeri, which I just found out is a former Dragon kit, with a $10 price tag on it....

Vance tipped me off to this one over the weekend...since you guys are distinctly lacking in armor participation (and I just happen to have something applicable), and I'd like to know a lot more about the Falklands War, I'm in!

I'll have to dig it out of the stash to take a look at the kit-supplied markings...if they're not Falklands-appropriate, I'll have to scrounge up a set of Bison's Scimitar sheet, seen HERE. If anyone happens to have one of those kicking around they'd like trade or otherwise part with, let me know!

I'm also tempted to do a British Phantom...but looking at the list of allowed vehicles in the "other" thread, it appears that only the FG Mk.II would work - I've got a pair of Hasegawa 1/48 FG Mk.I's, but no II. If anyone happens to have a spare Mk.II and would like to work some sort of trade, let me know!

The Phantoms did not take part in the conflict. Only at the end of the war some were send to Ascencion island.

Started poking around for Scimitar pics...not finding much that's Falklands-specific (lots of Desert Storm/UN type stuff). Are there any websites dedicated to the Falklands war you guys are using that might have some photos? It appears that I DO have a set of markings that come in the AFV Club kit that are at least in the right time frame, and definitely the right paint scheme. Would like to get some more info if possible...anyone got anything?
