I tend to build so slowly that I rarely have problems with paint not drying!

I take it you mean the ones at the front. I used some fine fishing line. I wasn't sure it would work, i thouhgt they would drop, but they are still holding.

Which RAF decals set are you waiting on?

I would deffinatly try fishing line for that Wessex. I have been useing it on my aircraft for a while and it works great.

Damn, i never saw those sets. I got an RAF set a few weeks back, but it includedRN and RAF titles. But i only needed the smaller letters as they were the only ones in the correct style and size for some late war German aircraft i have. I will have to compare that set with the one i have, see if they are small enough.

I can't remember what size line i have, i think its 4Ib for my 72nd, i just got the finest i could fined. And its much better that stretched sprue.

Wow , those Aztec decals look great . Am I to understand that there only available through Aztec's website only ? I would very much like to get some .

I didn't get much done today as I had to take the folkes to some medical appointments .

I was looking at the awesome finished builds on page 1 and wanted to check if anyone had done a HAS-3 Wessex , the one they call "Humphrey" .

I started comparing the new release of Revell's 1/48 kit to the 1/72 version as both have 1982 Falklands markings .

Revell really goofed wiith the landing gear in only providing the V-style type . As far as I'm awear the Wessex only used the bent gear style .

The Sikorsky UH-34 Nose pieces are included on the sprue , so I suppose it could be built as a Choctaw/Seahorse H-34 instead .

In any case I was more interested in looking at the Mk.11 Mod 3 Depth Charges on Revell's 1/48 kit

I was wondering if there was anything available to suit the 1/72 Revell HAS-3 ?

They look a little tricky to try and scratch-build , perhaps there might be other 1/72 helicopter kits out there that might have a similar type of depth charge in the kit ???

I have Cobra Company's HAS-3 resin update set which includes the Sub hunting interior equipment set for the cabin but I would really need to sorce some 1/72 Depth Charges  from somewhere .

Without those depth charges hanging from the fuselage sides of the build , a 1/72 "Humphrey" might look a little naked .

I dug out the ol' fishing basket from under the stairs looking for some fine fishing line to use as Bish suggested and it looked quite good on his B-17 build

There was not as much line as I thought I had but I think this might do ...

I'll give it a try anyway , at least it looks a whole lot better than cotton thread .

I had on those OPERATION CORPORATE decals on my "watch lists' at hannants . I checked my email box this morning and Hannats informed me they had come in . I placed an order straight away .

I also pre-paid (back ordered) the Cyberhobby HC-4 Sea King . This is the version with the different landing gear srtuts than the ones you usually see on Sea Kings . Airwaves once did some white metal/resin struts for a 1/72 HC-4 but they seem to be long out of production on that set .

Cyberhobby's kit is a litlle expensive but it's all there seems to be in 1/72 .

Flightpath do a HC-4 conversion set in 1/48 for Hasegawa/Revell Sea King kits and it's slightly cheaper than the future release Cyberhobby kit , I was tempted to buy a Flightpath conversion set but most of my builds are 1/72 scale , it always seem to be the way with model kits , whatever I really want is not available in my scale or if it is it can be quite expensive .

Also in my usual frantic haste trying to find a couple of 1/72 Sea king kits , I ended up buying a couple of the ancient re-issue Airfix kits , Hannant also informed me by email that the Revell kit was now back in stock . I wish I had more patience ......I used too , not so much any more .

John, you sounds as hooked on Hannants as i am, but at least i am only down the road lol.

Seems we got decals flying through the post all over the place.

Here's the next set of progress shots on the Sheffield. A few mosre bits to go, some finishing, a flat coat and then the deep blue sea. It's not too far off now.

Sorry there's be no progress on the Chinook these past couple of day's ; Both my parents have a number of health issue's and some weeks everything goes along okay and other times things are not so good . This has been one of those not so good weeks

Anyway I decided to buy the High Planes EE Canberra B.62 which comes with Argentine Falklands War markings .

High Planes Models produce a large number of 1/72 Canberra kits , I already have 7 of their Canberra kits in the stash and this B.62 makes 8 .

High Planes was originally based in Australia but now their located in Singapore as HPM Hobbies .

Their mail order service is still exceptional , with kits arriving about 7 day's after ordering .

What was a great suprise with the Argentine Canberra kit was that it included decals for a Bell 212 (UH-1N) .

I have a ridiculously large stash of Huey kits and with quite a few of them I have already airbrushed the interior pieces medium grey , so their ready to start assembly .

I went digging through the Huey spare parts boxes and found one of those large-wide blade antenna's from Revell's Bell 212 kit , so that will suit the Argentine Huey nicely .

Looking through the rest of my stash of Italeri and Airfix Canberra's I spied a PR.9 . I don't know if the British operated any Canberra's in the Falklands War ?

I may have to check google on that .

Helo, the RAF operated Canberra's out of Chile during the conflict. I have got back to my Chinook, will get some pics up at the end of the week.

When you mentioned that they operated out of Chile , I suddenly remembered reading that somewhere and forgot I had bought this book from Hannant's earlier in the year

The article above say's that the RAF Canberra's were probably painted in Chilean Air Force markings .

Interestingly the Airfix PR.9 Canberra kit comes with Chilean  markings dated 1983

The paint / camouflage scheme are identical between the Chilean PR.9 1983 aircraft and the Wyton UK based 1985 Canberra .

After the Falklands Britian donated three PR.9's to Chile , I suppose in appreciation for the logistic assistance rendered by Chile during the conflict .

The article also states that the RAF No.39 Squadrons activities in the falklands war remain largely shrouded in secrecy . Interesting combo none the less , with an Argentine Air Foce B.62 facing of with a Chilean marked RAF PR.9 ...

They paint "Forza" instead of "Fuerza" . Immediately raised suspicions. :)

That is very interesting history on those Canberras.  I had no idea. Are those Airfix Canberras new molds ? I might have to get me one.

Bit more on the Sheffield, it's had a flat coat, broken off a lifeboat, and I've done the water using Acrylic Gel Medium. It will be clear when dry, and then it's just a matter of painting it and coating it with Future to make it shiny, like real water.

I've tried to replicate the bow wave pattern as per an article I found on such things, it will be more obvious when painted.

Tomorrow might be the day for this one, I hope.

Some interesting info there John. I only found out about the RAF Canberra's when i was researching for this GB. Curious that they were painted in Chilean markings. That could have caused some issues, but i guess no more than the RAF operating from there in the first place. I guess you are going to have to trust the markings for the Chilean aircraft as i would be very surprised if there were any photos of the RAF aircraft.

Tony, ye, i think they are new molds. Xtrakit also does one that came out about the same time. I opted for that aircraft, looks very nice and has some great reviews. But i think the airfix kit is also very good.

Whats that Gel Medium you are useing, never seen that before.

You can buy gel medium in art supply stores. It's usually close to the tubes of oil paint and acrylics. I think artists use it when they want more 'body' in their paintings. This is the only modelling application for it that I am aware of. There is a good article on it's use on the Steelnavy website.

That tub cost me 15 bucks and there is enough in it to do at least 5 or 6 of these. My last tub expired after about 10 years.

Nice work on the water base for the Sheffield Tony . Even with the water process at the early stage it still looks great .

Well , I better get cracking with some of my builds as four more kits just arrived at the front door ;

Two Hobbyboss HAS-2 Lynx helicopters along with Xtradecal RN and Argentine decals

Looking at the Xtradecal sheet 72-108 there's decals for a Oxford Blue and Dark Sea Grey Royal Navy Lynx helicopter , I'm thinking of using the decals that go with the Dark Sea Grey scheme , I hope that's accurate for the Falklands War .

Also the two Airfix Sea King kits arrived as well

Obviously I'll leave off the sand filter box's and use the 5 blade tail rotor on the Argentine Navy Sea king ; I had forgotten about Airfix's main rotors being quite thin and can bow and kink easierly , so I'll trim both sets from the sprues and place them between a couple of thick books for a week or so to flatten them out .

I think I have some Airwaves PE sets for the Airfix Sea King in one of the storage box's and I might dig them out and think about using the cockpit seatbelts and a few other bits .

Gonna have to get the canopy and fuselage windows glued in place on the Chinook this afternoon and get things moving along .

I'm going to call the Sheffield done. Tonight I've completed the weathering, added the final bits, and completed the ocean. Note in the pictures that the software I use to remove the yellow tint from the artifical lighting also modifies the colour of the ocean. In reality there is more green in it than these photos show, and it's a little darker. It's difficult to see the subtle weathering on the side of the hull and superstructure until the last two shots. The first shot shows the gel medium that is nearly dry. It's completely clear when fully dry.

WOW Tony that looks stunning. I've never done a waterline ship, but if i do i will keep that stuff in mind. It really helps to bring the Sheffield back to life. Great work

I have one bottle of gloss gel to use on my SUE diorama also. Is a great stuff.
