This group is moving so fast with a bunch of very very nice builds that its a nightmare trying to get caught back up. This one really took off Hans von Hammer.

Sparrowhyperion hope you don't give up on the F-14 the kit does take a bunch of work especially around the intakes and fuse sides, but it does build up into a great looking model IMHO.

Kermit Thats a very nice lookin F-82 you have there and being the stubborn green froggie that ya are you beat that Gloss Black paint monster too. Well done sir.

Callsignowl oh YEAH I like that camo YesYes

Hopefully I am off my stoned guy meds for a while and can get some work done and some WIP pictures up soon. I could get used to the room not spinning ya know Stick out tongue

While the base-coat is curing, I will be working on the bombs. And there are a LOT of them!!

With a 30mm Gatlin Gun like the Warties, who needs bombs!

I'm not giving up on it, just back burnering it.  I simply don't have the time necessary to get it looking as good as I want to.  The Airacobra and Mosquito are just about ready for paint now.  I am getting a new camera so I can take some more images.  My old one croaked.  If it shows up tomorrow, then I will try and get some new pics sent up tomorrow night.  Between this flu bug and the associated meds, and house hunting, I have really been totally wiped out since last Friday.

Progress shots of my two efforts. First off TBD pretty much straight OOB. I plan to have the wings folded. My only concern at this time is the fuselage color. Directions call for Light gull gray. Photos I found show painted silver. I am leaning toward the silver.

 [View:/themes/fsm/utility/http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/Eltee22/TBD004.jpg:550:0]

Next effort the Mustang. I have the flaps dropped, rudder repositioned, exhaust stacks drilled out, seat belt harness added. If you can see it in the picture there is only 1 shoulder harness. The carpet monster got the other one. I did not have another one to replace it, so I took another peice of the seat belt material and draped over the back of the seat. I thought the pilot was in a hurry to get out of the plane and threw the belt over his shoulder and it landed behind the seat. The crew chief did not have time yet to move it back.

Thanks for looking

You should do the overall light gray scheme; I don't think I've ever seen the Monogram TBD finished in that scheme.  Everyone does a yellow wings bird, or a Midway bird.  The overall light gray was the first camo scheme the Navy chose, before moving to the nonspecular blue gray over light gray.

Nice job on your detailing, too!  That is a nice kit, and one that still holds up some 30-odd years since it was introduced.

Best regards,

Brad

OMG Bombs!!! Lots of bombs....that each required a bit of cleaning up. There were two little ejector pin marks and molding seams on each of these little bombs. A few also had weird little sink marks that  required filling. This was once of the more monotonous days Ive spent modeling.

I wouldn't think it qualifies since the show didn't even come on the air until long after the merger.  So the kit would have to be post-merger.

Look on the inside of the major parts...should be a copyright stamp on one of them...all the aircraft kits I ever built had them.

Mr. Baron, I do like the yellow wing version. I think I am going to stick with that one. Thanks for the suggestion and the comments.

If you would glance through the last couple of pages, you would know! Wink

Its an A-10 in desert colors and all of those are bombs. The things that look like missiles are actually guided bombs.

You'll have to excuse our WWI ace friend.  If it isn't painted red and have three wings, he may not recognize it. :)

That's OK, I have 4 or 5 of these in my stash, I'll do a light gray version myself.  The rest are for a yellow wings collection, to be able to have a couple of aircraft, all from the same squadron, on the deck at the same time.

Have you decided which unit you'll model?

Best regards,

Brad

well, technically, the ME-163 isn't a jet. It's rocket-powered.

I am going to do the VT-2 off of the Lady Lex.  Just because I like the squadron insignia better than VT-6.

Ok lets try this again got my post all ready to hit the post button and my Censored cable went out last night.

CallSignOwl thats why I tend to stay away from jets with full load outs. Cleaning up and painting and detailing all those bombs an rockets an gun pods an drop tanks  would drive me even crazier than I am now. Cowboy

Now for some WIP pictures, yup I am working on the F-15 again.

Got all the holes and slots and notches that wont be used on the bottom of the fuse all filled and sanded

While dry fitting the nose piece to the fuse I found a really bad problem, it seems the opening in the fuse where the nose mates to it was 1/16th smaller that the nose piece Tongue Tied So after giving it some careful thought and even more consideration and a couple more cups of coffee. I decided to cut off a bit of chopstick and sand it to a length that would open up the fuse enough that the nose would mate with almost no gap, well really a huge step really Stick out tongue Then wedged it in and hit it with a bit of ca glue.

And feeling I was on a roll after the nose thing I also added the wings, now it does look like a jet.

I didnt get to work on it today but there is always tomorrow. I haffta get a move on too as I still have to start my second build for the group so I can be made. I do NOT want to suffer the HAMMER of noncompliance Dead

Back in the day, our squadron had a Nipple Head of the Month award given to the pilot who did or said the dumbest thing for that month.  We should have one here for bone headed modeling maneuvers.  I would like to nominate myself for the inaugural award.

I successfuly glued the fuselage parts together for the Helldiver and while i was admiring my handy work and sanding the seams, I realized the cockpit was on my bench right in front of me.Embarrassed  Luckily, since this is a vintage Monogram kit, I was able to snip the locator spars on the cockpit and fit it in through the bottom.  But did I ever fell dumb!

Now you must put on the prop-beenie, and run around the hangar with your arms extended, making airplane noises, and singing, "Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer"..

Speaking of the Helldiver kits-we know that the original SB2C kit is an old Monogram design, but where did the later, post-merger Pro Modeler kit originate?  Was that a retooling/redesign, even from the ground up, of the old kit, or was it a mold that RM acquired from another source and added to the PM line?

The later Helldiver is a RM kit they did all on thier own under the PM label. It has alse been slightly modified and sold to Accurate Miniatures for release under their label.

Wonder how many of the Monogram "Pooh-Pooh-ers"  out there know that, and would their perception of Monogram change with that knowledge?

I've applied the fading coat now. It's subtle, but there. Ive also attached the landing gear so the kit wont sit on its belly while the Future is curing. The gear is pretty well detailed, I only added the major brake lines from wire.
