Love the pictures, Vetteman!  Excellent side by side shots with the Revell and other Monogram kit. All winners!!  Still working on my NMF Detroit Miss.....didn't realize how painful a NMF could be until I tried it!!!! You and the other guys make it look easy!

Keep up the great work; hope to join you in 'la familia' soon!!Yes

Hutch, Vette, Bob - Beautiful work, guys!!  YesYesYes  I'm still here, reluctant to put up my humble Wildcat pics but guess I'll do it anyway.  Still have a fair amount of work to do.  Hope to figure out some weathering - I'm new with that.

Here's the belly - not sure if I'll do the under-cockpit windows yet.

Some upper views (canopy not attached yet.)

Thanks, hope to have more progress soon.  This is the toughest build I've had yet!  Super Angry

Ken, nice progress....below is an update to my F-100.  Almost done.  I just have some touch ups to do and finish the ejection seat.  I experimented a lot on this kit and am pleased with the result, although not a pristine finish.  This will look good hanging from my ceiling.

Ken-the Wildcat is progressing nicely.

Hutch-very nice NMF on the F-100...the heat effect on the tail is outstanding.  I must add one of those to my stash.

Thanks, guys.  That's a beautiful F-100, Hutch!  I know there are many articles on weathering out there, but given the blue shade and raised panel lines, does anyone have any specific advice on how I might try to weather the Wildcat?

Thanks, Ken

Thank you all for your comments and kind words, really makes one want to do even better on the next build.Does this mean I am finally a made man ??

Kbuzz01 Nice work on the Wildcat YesYes If I may, I filled my airbrush cup ( 1oz cup) about half full of distilled water and added Tamiya white a couple of drops at a time until it looked cloudy like skim milk. Then to that I added a drop or 2 of dish washing liquid so it wouldn't form droplets when I sprayed it. Then I misted the top of the fuse evenly and did a  random spray pattern on the wings in the direction of airflow. I guess you could say I streaked the wings unevenly. This method took 5 or 6 mistings before I was happy with it, the idea was to mist lightly let it dry for 1/2 hour to see what it did then mist it again.  Heres a picture of what I ended up with after misting it.

Hope this helps

Hutchdh oh I am liking your Sabre man !! Those markings really pop and the burned metal looks fantastic. Looking to see the finished pictures now Eats

OK so I'm building Tordorff's "Upupa Epops". My favorite pony, and what's it to ya mugs, ehh?

You probably call your one shirt a "shoit'.

Firstly, it's 1/32 and I need decals, wuddaboutit?

That Tamiya thing musta brung out the aftermarket.

Also, I need paper drop tanks.

Here's the things what make it woik.

And the first coat on the base.

Bud Tordorff and his airplane.

Thanks for the reply, Vetteman.  (Yup, I believe the boss will declare you are a "made man".)  I'd been thinking of streaking something in a light color on the blue Wildcat to show some fading on the mid panels, so your comments kinda reinforce that idea.

Thanks, Ken

Hutch: What a beautiful bird!!!Bow Down

Hammer: I brought in a Pinch Hitter for my build!!! The Phantom is giving me some serious issue (some warping I hadn't noticed). I brought in my Monogram AH-1G. I will post pics tonight. I think I just needed a break from jets for a bit and this provided it. Plus I have been wanting to get to it for a while!!!Big Smile

This was a very fun build!!!! Brought back great memories as Monogram was my primary kit manufacturer when I began the hobby!

Thanks, guys...the Super Sabre is Ziel!!!  I added the ejector seat and I am quite pleased.  A buddy of mine with an affinity for the Hun wants to hire me to do one for him...gosh, my first order!!!!  He wants me to do a Mono just like this build, also with NMF.

All the builds are very impressive. Just goes to show you don't have to spend $40.00 to have a good looking model.

Hi everyone, here's an update of what I've been up to. The Tomcat is ready for painting, haven't had a chance to fire up the airbrush. I also dug up a couple of partial builds and will finish them up. the R/M P-51 won't count, but put it up anyways. The Airacobra was about 1/4 done before a serious night of bench time. The fit of both kits were excellent, the stang barely needed putty. I'll post individual pics soon.

I finally got my meatball and tail code decals from my vendor, so I am wrapping up the Zero, goal is to finish it this weekend.  Then I can focus all effort on the A-24.

Here are the AH-1G Pics. 1/72 scale. Fun little build. It was right out of the box!

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

I painted the white and yellow bands on the main rotor. I also painedd the tail rotor bands. The decals  were just a little old and I wanted to mess with them as little as possible.

Hammer,

The Thud (WW version) has been done for a few months. I ran into some serious problems with the F-4. Major warping to the fusilage and wing. I am still working on how best to deal with it. Hence the Pintch hitting AH-1G Cobra kit from Monogram. I didn't think I was going to be able to get the build done in time.

Nice Tweety TM! At least most of you guys are tooling along well!

:irked: I swear that the modeing gods are against me on this GB at this point. A few weeks ago I started putting downa  coat of Xtra Colour Duraluminum on my Saber for a two tone effect and the  stuff just refused to thin properly. It spit out tiny solidified chunks all over the beast so I put that one aside. I thinned the paint as I always do, with Testors MM Airbrush thinner and never had previous problems with that brand. So i sidelined the F-86. Today I attempted to start the painting on my F9F. Using Promodeler Gloss Sea Blue and thinned with Gunze Thinner, again a combo I have used with no issues in the past. Today it came out looking like a flat with specks all over looking like dust was in the paint mix (it was not). right now both builds are sidelined out of frustration, in lieu of flying into the garage floor, driveway,or other solid non yielding surface... I should have picked two armor builds... they would be done by now...:angryfire: This is really starting to chap my hide...:cussing:

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Hope that you weathered the storm okay, Troublemaker!  A very tense time, indeed.  Luckily things weren't too bad here in Virginia and elsewhere.....looks like we dodged a big one.

Hey Stickpusher, sorry to hear about the painting ordeal.  Struggling myself with a metalizer issue on my P-51.  Not helped much by that port wing gun bay.....Angry Totally hating on that thing......seems like it went together a heck of a lot easier when I was a teenager!  Oh well, we'll see........

My Airacobra is looking pretty good.  My best pilot figure in years will be manning the controls.  Now working on the canopy, then the decals........looking forward to finishing my first model in several years.

Love everyone's work; good seeing some of the classic kits from my (our?) youth turning into real show stoppers!!Smile
