Oddman- that was a bugger- I hope you get the canopy off without cracking it.

Psycho- I vote for badge #2, although perhaps any one should be fine- the heart shaped one does have my interest!

This may be the fastest construction of a model I've ever done...new personal record.

The build is complete, and proof thereof:

Now then, on to the complicated stuff. You'll see in this picture that there is much filling and sanding to do...as much as can be expected from one of these Revell kits.

I'd built this kit before and I forgot about that nasty little gap by the windscreen. The wing roots aren't really going to be much of a problem.

Any way, I'll get to this when I can. There is sort of a line in front of her now as I have several other GB entries waiting for a coat of paint before the deadline.

I have some pics of some progress.

Pics aren't that stunning I know. But I hope you can see that I added the lever for the radiator flaps which protrudes next to the left side of the pilot's seat. On the right side of the seat I added another lever, though its function I'm not aware of. My thoughts are perhaps its to adjust the position of the seat but I"m not sure. I also added the lever for the undercarriage controls as well as some other minor details. Scratch built the O2 bottle but that won't even be visible once she is closed...oh well. Lastly, I opened the cockpit door which adds a nice touch in my opinion.

Sweet! Ive seen a spitfire in person, breifely seen one fly. I hope I can actually see one in an airshow sometime.

Another Spitfire is on it's way home, this one was found in the Orne estuary near Caen...The remains of it's pilot Flt Ltn Henry "lacy" Smith of 453 Sqd RAAF were found in the wreckage and were buried with full honors today at Ranville war cemetary...

The Spitfire was shot down by AAA on the 11th of June 1944.... it  will be shipped to the RAAF museum at Point Cook for preservation...

As far as Im concerned a seafire is pretty much the same as a spitfire except with a tail hook and folding wings, so its fine. Its in the magazine I have so it checks out.

I just picked up the Italeri 1/48 Spitfire IX American Aces edition for $25 at my LHS.  The decal sheet in this kit makes it a bargain.  I think I'll be doing WZ-JJ of Lt John Fawcett, 309th FS/31st FG. 

 

I found a book called Woodbine Red Leader by George Loving in a used book store.  He was a member of the 309th and flew Spits and Mustangs in the Med.  Ended up with 5 kills in the Stang.  Great stories of WWII air combat.

I have that very same kit. I still cant decide which one to do.

Very nice Reasoned! He'll be a master modeler in no time at all. I dont build in 1:72 due to how small it is. 1:48 is perfect for me. I'll get a badge up soon for you, Im sure we wont say anything about you adding a badge in your sig for your son.

Well, with a little help from dad, 6 yr old Jr. finished his Testors 1/72 Spitfire Mk ? (the box says "I" but it sure doesn't look like it, according to the marking below it was a MK Vb).  Never having built a 1/72 I have new respect for those with better near sight (as mine ain't what it used to be!) He assembled it, painted most of it (I drew lines for the camo) and I had the delightful task of taping the TINY canopy, I also moved the decals into final rest after he put them on the plane.  We built OTB with the three color paint scheme provided in the box (did use a little black for prop and silver for wheels) and did a quick q-tip wash for the panel lines (which I might add were easier to work with than any kit I've yet done) .  The markings are for Plt Off Donald Morrison Canadian Sqd May 1942.  He (we) enjoyed the build so much, we picked up a 1/72 Hurricane and have my eye on a 1/72 SBD, when dad lays into his SBD. Some wip and finals,

Actually, it is quite nice. The fit is reasonable and detailed. I got the wings, fuselage, tail and horizontal stabs on in no time today. Probably could be painting in a few days.
