Does it has to be 'accurate'? I'm planning to build a faberge easter egg themed Zock, for lulz and because it looks like an egg!

not accurate like the original series but even in custom color should have a real look .... should at least appear as the giant the zock is.

Smeagol - Thanks for the warm welcome fellow Zeon!  Zakus rule!  The Feddie GMs are lame and weak!  (I hope I haven't stepped on any EFSF toes by those remarks!)  Even though I have built a few GMs, the majority of kits I have are Zeon, Axis, and Neo Zeon.  And by the way, I agree completely that the Acguy DOES need the most love of all.  The design is ludicrous, but the HGUC kit rocks!  I picked one up just because the box art was so cool, and the kit built like a dream.  I had 100% customer satisfaction on that one!

Bsyamato - Thank you also for the welcome, as well as the Flickr advice.  I don't do the Facebook and Twitter thing, and set up the Flickr account only a few days ago.  My coworkers refer to me as a Japaneesu dinosaur due to my lack of Internet presence.  There's another guy on-line with the same name as mine, but I am his evil twin.  Honest.  We both live in Honolulu, and I used to get a lot of calls for him until he started listing his number in the phone book.

I definitely want to join!  What I meant was that I look forward to seeing the other guy's works in the GB.  There is nothing like seeing what the other people are doing to gain inspiration, motivation, or to just plain cockroach ideas!  Most of the techniques I use have been gleaned from Japanese model magazines like Model Graphix and Hobby Japan.  It will be intreresting to see what people from other parts of the world come up with to enhance their Gunpla.

The Zaku Cannon I plan to build has a really great looking box art showing a weatherbeaten finish that I would like to try.  I build aircraft and armor as well, but have not weathered anything as severely as what is on the box.  So I think that will be my challenge for this build.

By the way, what is everyone's "Gunpla Story"?  I stumbled across my first one in 1983, a dinky little crabby-thing called a Grablo.  I had no idea what it was, but bought it on a whim.  I had a blast building it, and looked around for more.  The next kit I bought was the old 1/100 Char's Zaku.  I still didn't know what Gundam was about, but I liked the "armored football player" look of the Zaku.  I was less than thrilled by the color scheme, so I substituted greens for the burgundy and orange, not knowing that I was close to the standard color scheme of the Zaku.  A friend then showed me a tiny paperback book called "Hero Robot" that cataloged Japanese anime kits and toys.  Inside, there were photos of a number of Gundam kits, including the then new MSVs (Mobile Suit Variation).  I was instantly hooked from then on!  I also got a sneak peek at Macross, Techno Police, Crusher Joe, and Transformers before any of those shows hit the US.  Of course, the Tranformers weren't referred to as such, they were just some novelty line of toys.  The irony of my "Gunpla Story" is that I was a huge fan of the kits, but didn't see the show until five years later!

Oh boy, now I'm all excited to get cracking on the Zaku!

my story man was a little different .... i see the first show of original 0079 on 1982 or 83

before that i grow up with mazinga z and goldrake (ufo robot).. i see an istant differences with these.. gundam plugged me into mechs as military veichles not as suber robots... but at the time no kit avaible here (and i'm was too little )

lots of years withouth no other series of gundam in italy. disappeared! the channel not payed right royalties to bandai then till the ... wing series no others series was transmitted in italy after (resolved right matters) a new version re-dubbed of 0079 was transmited by the same channel (for politics problems with the italian owner of three national channel and lots of others things i need to stop talk about it before someone ban me from the forum) and memories bring back in my head! after even the z gundam was dubbed in italy , all others series i see with subtitles .

By th era of online shop finally i haved the chance to can order something that in my city was impossible to have .

my old background of scale modeller forced me to completely ignore a snapped kit as a finished kit (smeagol know something from bakuc ) and to use my knowledge on these hg hguc or others.

As you can see i carve on my models panel lines, as an effective real veichle. Imagine you a whole leg of a zaku in the real world .. no seam?  ho you can inspect inside for maintenance? i just try how the various armour pieces can be decompose . 

And tanks to involvng in gundams kits i gradually taken my old scale modeller hobby!! and actually i have an insane stash of unbuilted kits .. only gunpla are 27 .

No, this will be my third MG kit.  The first was the GM Custom from "0083 Stardust Memories", the second was Ramba Ral's Zaku I Custom.

I also built the HGUC Gelgoog Marine, GM, Gouf, and Acguy.  Oh, and also the EX Model Magella Attack and Musai Cruiser.  Older stuff I finished include the 1/100 Zaku, Gouf, Z'Gock, the original 1/144 GM Command Space Type, and the 1/550 Grablo.  Here is the build article for the Magella:

Kits on the back burner right now are the HGUC Gog and Dom, and the 1/400 Musai Cruiser (a real big 'un!).  I did not enter the GB with the Gog, as it already has paint and a coat of gloss on it.  The Dom and Musai are still in pieces, although construction has started.

As can be seen from the list of models I have, I am a die hard One Year War fan.  Sieg Zeon!

I'm glad you liked the Magella Attack.  Who knows how the Japanese come up with names when they design stuff?  It might have been Magellan Attack, but got mangled into Magella.  If anyone likes the design, the EX model is superb and highly recommended, if you can find one.

Below are the HGUC Gog and Dom I am (sort of) working on.

I am a lazy bugger, so rather than vac-form a clear monoeye shield for the Gog, I have resorted to simply drilling out a hole in the shield, CA gluing a clear sprue plug, sanding and polishing till smooth, painting the shield black, then dousing the whole lot with Gunze Mr Super Clear Gloss.  I still have to apply more gloss and finish off with a little polishing.  The pink color is achieved using Tamiya acrylic Clear Red, applied in thinned coats.

I also replaced the mega beam cannon emitters in the body, as the kit ones didn't look functional.  I used shaped telescoping plastic tubing.

One last thing.  Here is my first Zaku, built circa 1983.  It's the 1/100 scale Char's Zaku, purchased for around four bucks!

Okay, as you can see I get kind of carried away when it comes to Gundam.  I apologize for blathering on and on.

probably he named thing in random mode (just kidding) , don't know but often sound very strange in italy because uses names drammatically near to italian words (sometimes with very strange results), i think just like as names sounds good.

The process i use for clear parts is not closely vacuform, just i heat the clear part with a flame and put suddenly on the mold-piece. You not the only that not use to replace the monoeye with clear parts, i'm just a maniac for this i replaced the  clear part and the monoeye of my MG char's zaku ..

Your gogg is at good point (you give me a good idea for megaparticles cannons!) but the Dom can be enlisted if you want

But your original zaku is a precious treasure!!! keep it safe it's a rare thing 28 yo gunpla!!!

Remember that the original TV show came out circa 1979, so the style of animation is more like the "super robot" variety, i.e. bright blue space backgrounds, crayon pink explosions, and kind of rough line work.  It did have moments of excellence though, so it is essential viewing for Gundam fans.  Be sure to watch "0080: War in the Pocket" and "08th MS Team" for a more modern take on the One Year War.

People often leave out MG Igloo from required viewing but I really think it should be in there.  Shows a different side of the war, and done amazingly well

Oh yeah, I neglected to mention the CG series.  I have only watched bits and pieces on Youtube, but was immediately struck by the intense, gritty nature of the action.  IIRC the MS Igloo series featured regular grunts, not newtypes, so they had to work for their pay.  (Not to mention to stay alive as well!)  Some pretty cool kits have been made from the series too, like the Hildofr (?) and M61A5 tank.  I think the Zudah (?) mobile suit also came from MS Igloo.

BTW, just for you Smeagol:

HGUC kit, OOTB, with decals from Bandai and Satellite.  Hard to hug something with claws like that though.  Anyone bought the wacky "Bear Acguy"?  (Or was that "Bearguy"?)  I thought they couldn't make this design any weirder, but they did.

But even on decals i use the cheaper way! printed myself and using some from aircraft unused stock

I really like the weathering on your models!  I am torn between modeling clean and weathered models, but I have to admit that the weathered ones look a lot more realistic.  That's why I will try my best to weather the Zaku for the GB.  Hey, I noticed your shoulder armor rings are properly aligned!  Better than me!

I got most of my decals in Japan at 20% discount, when the US dollar wasn't so pathetic.  I don't go very often, so I bought something like ten sheets of each color of the Satellite stencil decals.  Okay, that was pretty expensive.  I have a bunch of aircraft decals, but they don't seem to be as useful as the dedicated anime sheets.

I figure since we have a year to complete the GB, I wish to formally enter an HGUC Dom and a 1/400 Musai:

I really want to finish these, so I figure a GB will provide the motivation to force me along.

BTW, are there two other guys in the GB who want to do HGUC Doms?  We can then conduct a coordinated assault on the Feddie entries!

It is a good thing that Bandai molds their Gundam kits in color - imagine the confusion if all the parts were molded in grey!  I know it is hard to mix up a Gouf with a Gog, but what would happen if you were working on several Feddie suits that had similar colors?  You would need to be Newtype to tell them apart!

I will be watching your backpack modifications with great interest!  I haven't glued mine on yet, so there is still time to modify it.  So far the only change I did was to swap the thrusters with smaller ones.

it's impossible to happen, i have so few federal ms... and two are the guncannon and guntank that are not white

Shoulder of my acguy are not glued, so i can adjust always the position

for the step by step i like to share how i build. Take a look here, the wip of my 8th ms team truck  and there the wip of my char's zaku 2 v2.0 on bakuc  it took about six months to finish  

Musai is huge!!! and look high detailed kit sure i  sign with both kits over the zakucannon?

i want probably to put an MG as second build, just want to be sure finish all, even on other 3 GB involved.
