Herc: I checked my reference material last night but wasn't able to find many photos of the Ki-46 other than some grainy b&w ones.

The restored plane may or may not be accurate of course. The decal instructions are from Empire City and should be pretty close though.

That was exactly what I was looking for. FS30140 looks about right for what I am trying to cover. Now to find a paint that matches. I am lucky that I have the FS fandeck so it may mean a trip to Hobby Lobby to buy some craft paint to match.

Great! I was worried it might not be readable. And I forgot to grab the kit instuctions when I headed out to work this morning.

The little icm ki-27 arrived with other supplies !!!!!!! finally i can start, i just had few minuted to take a speedy look on the new kits arrived , asap i'll post pictures but a thing is sure: the kit looks nice and ....is reeeaally a little plane

Cliff, love the Judy. I did hear that this kit is not a shake-and-bake, so I'll be interested to see how it builds up. So far, no other choices in 1/48.

Cliff, love the Judy. I did hear that this kit is not a shake-and-bake, so I'll be interested to see how it builds up. So far, no other choices in 1/48. 

That is the color I am after. What did you use?

Eric & Big-Z: Well, I cut most of the parts off the sprue on this one but I've got the night fighter version and the radial engine as well. I'll post photos of one or the other this weekend.

Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being perfect I'll give the kit a 7. Fit and detail are good but not really Tamiya or Hasegawa quality- I'd compare it to an Academy or older '80s era Hasegawa kit. Several sinkholes and injection pin holes need to be filled.

Don't think I'm bashing the kit, it's a solid model - it just requires a little more TLC than newer ones. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants a Suisei.

I pulled this up off of Hyperscale. Isn't it kind of a faded red-brown? I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find more info. there is a good site to check out.

I thought that aircraft looked familar, I saw it eairler this week and knew that was the color I wanted to paint mine. I just figured you did it and posted it over there and got all excited that you had the secret decoder ring for the color.

Hercmech thanks ,yea hope to score another ace badge here lol. Do'nt feel bad my building will slow way down soon ,the cool riding months are fast approaching and I'll be kneedraggin' more than building. Got beat to the punch on the color ref thats the same as the one I found for your Ki27

heres a couple of comparison pics

the Ki kit has a actual span of 9.25" and length is 8" if I did my math right this would put the span at about 37' and the length 32' so it's not too out of sorts

then the kits arrived today, a seabfat for another gb , the precious ki-27 , other suppies and .. no breguet 693

so, this is the kit

high detailed is this kit good options have, as the whole good reproduced engine with all opened option (sure i leave it opened) 

details are (unfortunately for me) as the real , not all recessed or positive panel lines, lots of micro extruded maintenace panels and so on. On the secont picture you can see the under cockpit wing part

ip , seats , rear engine bulkeads, all detailed at good level, finally i can say (at least before to start) to bild an oob!

and an istant dry fit , not perfect but after builded an amodel kit nothing can fear me (only the airfix sm-79)

soon some progress, i just starting the plane now and probably i'll upload some wip pictures with the saturday rising sun

I'm working on my first real aircraft build, not just a throw together Monogram kit that I built when I was 8. I never painted them either. LOL

I once painted a Tony with a brush. Actually it wasn't that bad and the green swirls do look brushed on, at least on the box they did. However, this will be all AB'd.

I'll look later for that color, but brown is starting to ring a bell. 

This may not help. I found the paint guide in the December 1998 FSM. The color could be described as a khaki-drab brown, I guess. Closest match might be Gunze H72, Polly Scale 505252, and Testors model master enamel 1702. I could be wrong about all this. It looks more red-brown to me.

some nate update

i glued and painted some piece

flashe actually removed

the cockpit engineering is a little complicated 

the whole glued structure (with machine gun, not yet gklued,  that fire through the engine cylinder )

need to be glued after the fuselage assembly. 

breaked a V structure piece for the engine castle i scratched the remaining too, and painted the cockpit walls with silver .The cockpit color is wrong on the instruction (really strange all the kits report even the right colors ..) 

after i paint it with dark blue/gray as finded on some reference site, and try to remove simulating chipping.

First thinned black on the engine

Bsyamato: Great work, as you said though after the A-Model kit this one should be easy! Looks like a very detailed kit, amazing to me the detail you can pack into 1/72nd scale.

Ok, the other two Suisei kits by FineMolds. I thought the radial engine D4Y4 was rare but picked it up a show for $25.00 bucks- I consider myself lucky on that.

Parts layout, like a dummy I forgot the sprue with the seats and cockpit parts- it's only a small one though.

The nightfighter version comes with three white metal parts for the 'Jazz Music' gun mounted at a 45% angle in the rear gunner's position. It was designed to 'park' the aircraft in the blind spot under an Allied bomber and fire up into it's belly. Oddly the kit shows the bomb being mounted in the kit but I can't see one being carried for shooting down bombers on home defense  . The radial engine D4Y4 has a different sprue for the larger cowling and a much larger bomb which barely fits the bomb bay (the doors had to be left off).

Anyway my cockpit is mostly done other than a few clear pieces I'll attach later and adding a little gloss clear to the instrument faces. Lost my control stick too and used a small wire with the insulation left on the top for the grip- I still need to paint the fire button with a dab of silver.Other than that she's outta-the-box but for the Eduard pre-painted seat-belts.

White blob on the oxygen cylinders where I glued it to a sprue for painting, it will be turned toward the fuselage wall and not visible. 

Want to be able on nmf finish with brushes nice on your Trey

thanx Gamera ,i'm really surprised from this kit, not expected so. Also the kit include the parts to do the other ki-27 variant, earlier than this, with uncovered wheels. Good for the unused pieces magazine.

the radial judy looks really nice too ...even if  till now not see ugly ww2 jap planes and the finihed cockpit reaaly great

Ii'm about to put the navy blue humbrol 77, is the nearest color i have to match the ki-27 ,asap put more updates ..

ps: failed!!! never put the 11 humbrol silver as first color removed at least from cockpit walls

Thanks guys, I hope it looks worthy of the two weeks I put into it, don't think I've ever spent that much time detailing a cockpit- and the kit comes with a solid canopy so unless I work up the guts to cut it open you probably won't see that much of it

I decided to go with the over all grey scheme and undercoated the fuse with some different shades to give it some depth

Then 3 coats of  thinned down Imperial grey

There both 72 scale. older  hasegawa kits
