Japanese GB 2011-2012

Excellent NMF finish on your on-going build Trey ,

I managed to get a little done today ;

I cleaned up the parts of the Isuzu Fuel Truck and glued the the fuel tank pieces together along with the extra gasoline / oil drums . I airbrushed the chassie frame flat black as well as the suspension and axle parts .

The rest of the truck body and additional parts I'll airbrush Tamiya XF-49 Khaki ...

The starter truck got pretty much the same attention but I was able to glue the bonnet and side panels to the body and the dash board in place along with the tray sides and end gate . As with the Fuel truck the rest of the parts I'll airbrush seperatly first thing tomorrow .

I then airbrushed the interior cockpit pieces and fuselage sides of the  Ki-84 Hayate with some metalic blue green , I also re-painted the interior parts on the Zero as I had previously airbrushed it with Tamiya's XF-71 Cockpit  green , which didn't appear to quite the correct color . Then came some silver on the engines and I'll add some thinned black wash tomorrow to both engines ;

I'll start glueing the cockpit pieces together next and hopfully by tomorrow night I'll have the fuselage halves together and perhaps the wings as well .

Digging through my old vintage kits, I came up with two possibilities for this build. I was actually looking for an orange LS Dinah trainer I know I have hidden in box soewhere, but found a Tamiya Moeki 1:72 scale motorized Shinden (J7W1) or a 1:48 scale Testors Oka.

I'm more partial to the Shinden; it looks more interesting. This is a photo of the box art. It's not my kit, mine is much nicer condition, but the same model.

Thats funny I've been watching that  Shinden kit and this am I bid on it. Can you shoot some pics of the kit, the one i'm looking at seems to be in the same condition.

NM didnt finish reading, i see that the pic isnt what you actually have.

Is it too late to get in on this build?  It'll be my first group build so I'm excited!  I don't have a kit yet, but I'm going to the LHS today and it'll be some sort of WW2 Jap aircraft.

Damn Trey Bling Bling!

It's the same kit as the one I have. A fairly simple kit designed to use a battery powered motor with the batteries stored in the gray display base. The kit has maybe 30 parts. Mine did not include the motor, but I have several of them in other Tamiya kits.

I don't know. Haven't decided. I have a few of those small motors from a bunch of the 1/50th scale Tamiya Japanese Aircraft kits.

I would really prefer to find the Dinah to build. It is a better quality kit.

i added the missing details on the engine

to avoid to paint the wires with silver (really hard when they are ignition wires in 1/72) i found between the cables i have this for tv signal, the extern mass have this wired mesh that is perfect!

with a needle i did a hole for one andglued with ca

is realy hard to see but now the engine have the ignition wires

then the lates piee needed are the bars between the cylinders (dunno the specific name in english )

drilled the holes with 0,4 pin 

and insert the metal bars (this just metal wires not from the cable) and cutted the exhaust terminals to allow the engine going on fuselage (instructions says to glue the exhaust ring by only a cilinder but was too hard in this way)

then glued the engine to the castle and glued the cooler (?)

Okay painted the control surfaces Japan lt gray

Next was a good soaking wash of Citadel Devlan mud

then after the wash dried I scrubbed it down with a damp towel and 'Q' tips to get the excess wash off

The next step is the mottle I decided on this scheme

I'm not sure if if I'll brush it or A/B it ,although with the irregular edges the brush might do a more authentic job

Trey i think the mottle is a great choice. Looking forward to it.

WOW! Now I`m gonna ask the $64 dollar question...HOW did you do it? I have a "Nick" just waiting for a mottle job exactly like yours. Damn dude, that looks awesome!

I was going to ask the same question. That's gorgeous. Must have made a frisk mask or something?

ok...a bit slow going but I got the fiddly bits installed on the left side wall and the cockpit floor...now on to the right side...I tried to bend the ribbing on the left side first before installing onto the fuselage.....big mistake....all the pieces fell off and got bent...should have know better....right side should go together better....after that some paint and washing...more pics to come..

That's a lot of detailing for something you will see so little of Carlos. I admire you for doing it though.

Not yet decid how to weathering it, panel washing line will be really hard with so fine details

Len ,Eric thanks I did it freehand using a 20/0 atlas brush with model master japanese amy green. I thin the paint 10 %with Nason mid temp base coat reducer it really helps it flow without cutting down the coverage.

Bsyamato, it's a getting there. It will look good with the marking on it.

Well I started my Zero tonight.  Its the Tamiya 1:48 A6M2 kit.  I plan to paint in the early colors, light gray with black cowling.  I could have gotten more done, but I need to go to the LHS tomorrow and get some Tamiya paint so it's a bit more authentic.  What I had on hand in Testors enamel I used, such as semi gloss black, aluminum and such.

Here is the prop and the pilot figure, the front part of the prop is aluminum, and the back will be semi gloss black.  I only painted the helmet of the pilot, in semi gloss black for now.

Here is the cockpit, I only painted the black areas, since the rest is mostly Japanese cockpit green, which I don't have at the moment.

Here is the engine cowling.

Its tough to see, but the inner part of the engine is aluminum, the rest will be gunmetal when I get some.

Hope to get a lot more done soon!
