I'm not 100% sure but this sounds right to me. The Ki-43s I did a few years ago I used Nakajima green in the cockpits and aotake for the wheel wells and flaps.

Those look great!  Just curious, what is(are) the kits and what made you decide to build two?  I have a 1/48 Nichimo Ki-43 in the stash, not the height of cutting edge detail but hey, the price was right.

The Japanese Ki-43 is by Finemolds in 1/48. Pretty good kit, went together without any major problems. The kit is a Ki-43 III but there really isn't much difference between it and the late model Ki-43 II I built it as. The stacks on the sides of the cowling are different from the Ki-43 I and earlier models of the II.

The Thai kit is the 1/48th Hasegawa. One of the best kits I've ever built, it's one of those stick a tube of glue in the box and shake kits. I don't think I used any putty at all and it came with nice droppable flaps (which I painted backwards at first and had to redo them) .

The Nichimo kit should built up really well, I've always liked their stuff.

I had both kits in my stash and I figured that since they were painted simular I'd just do them both at once. Saved me some time on the cockpits but the outside was different- topside IJA green/dark tan and bottom IJA grey/aluminum so I didn't end up saving much work in the end .

Yeah but it is kind of interesting building the same subject/scale from two different companies to compare the details, fit etc..  I did that with the Revelogram and Tamiya P-51D.

So the 2nd bird is Thai markings, wow, never seen that before, very cool.

Reasoned: I picked up the Finemolds kit since they're the only company that makes the late model II / model III. And the Hasegawa kit is as a far as I know the best made. I used to do two models in the same scheme (Spitfire/Typhoon) (Sherman / M10) at the same time. Since I already had the paint mixed and in the airbrush it was just easier to do two at once. I ended up buying a new brush with a colour cup and it's a great deal less trouble to mix the paint for it so I don't do it anymore.

Gamera those are some great looking Oscars! I like the first pic of the female Samarai but the sunset Zeros are real nice too.

Reasonably happy otherwise, joystick looks a bit thick, seat belts to be flattened, piston rods tidied up or removed

Fuselage fitted well, liitle bit of sanding to do

  Sorry for the delay.  I had to finish a Hasegawa N1K1 Rex prototype since it was more than 50% when the GB started.  Anyway, I'll be starting my RS Models Tachikawa Ki-94-II this week.  I'll keep you posted with progress pictures.

Trey: Looks good to me, I'd think the plane would chip more around the leading edges of the wings and the fusilage where the pilot and ground crew are climbing around. Which is exactly where you did most of your chipping. I like it.

FInally got the cockpit and bomb bay assembled and painted, hopefully will be able to lay down the wash tonight and then get to dry-brushing and detail painting this weekend.

Bsyamato: Very cool, I don't think I have anything left I did that far back, it's all broken up and in the spare parts box. If I'd done anything as good as your Zero there I would have kept it though.

Len: Cockpit and figures look good to me, the transparent parts are kinda thick and I'm not sure how much of it you'll be able to see.

Guys, keep up the advice on which badges you like or don't. I'll see about narrowing it down to three or four this weekend. Tigerman suggested 'Imperial Japanese Group Build 2011-2012' as the logo on the badge. Anyone have anything they like better?

Someone, forgive me I forgot who it was brought up having a rising sun with the rays behind the charging samurai. I like the idea too but have don't have the software or the knowledge to do it myself.

i can put the rising sun behind, but need a larger image than the badge my previous work was on photoshop

I tried some fast frame canopy tape as it came with the kit,not too bad but in the future I'll stick with masking my own. The dry fit looks pretty good no big gaps to deal with

Sweet job trey! your models always look just like the real thing. i've never tried the salt chip method, but with my devastator i built i sprayed silver underneath then the basecoat and used a hobby knife to scrape off paint on the wing walk and other areas. it seemed to work good. may try the salt thing next time though.
