For the badge not see more advices , imho can work so, in all cases i have the workin photoshop file ready for mods, i use masks then the two blended images are not destroyed.

Depending on the age of your computer it sounds like a capcitor issue, there was at least one batch of motherboards that failed early because of blown capacitors. The little "cans" particularly the green ones, look for these with bulging ends (the normally have a bare metal top with an "X" scribed on them, this X is a safety release I think.

Just as an aside blowing the dust out with an air compressor is a risky business, compressed air can cause significant amounts of static, you need to ensure everything is well grounded to prevent damage to the ram modules or the various processors.

Thanks Jafa, I never thought about the motherboard. It and the rest of the computer are a little over a year old, it started acting funny about six months ago. The motherboard is an ASUS which is a brand I've been using for years without problems. The whole computer is a Frankenstein's Monster machine I put together myself but with name brands, ASUS motherboard, Seagate HD, Intel CPU, etc. If it were a Dell or Gateway I could have just took the thing back

If you're looking for a fantastic Japanese kit you can't go wrong with the Tamiya Dinah we mentioned before. Also the recent Hasegawa Ki-43 and Ki-84 are some of the best kits I've ever seen.

Right Trey, I'm going to put my newbie Zero in after you just posted yours? Hahaha Thanks for the invite, but I believe it was too far ahead for the GB to qualify. Besides, I didn't put seatbelts in. Again, this is a teethbreaker Hase kit with a single color. We'll see if this leads to more.

I have a Tony, Nick, Jack and a Val. I hope to pick up a Frank at the show this weekend. I got outbid today on one that had the AM works being sold with it. I might also add a Kate or Jill, because the boys keep bothering poor Val!

BTW Trey and bsyamato, those are splendidly different builds. 

Trey, the cowl is supposed to be a bit glossy isn't it? I painted mine matte, but it doesn't look right.

How do you do this - you mentioned the "salt" method - I see you did a metalic undercoat, how did you do the wear factor on the top coat?

Well I was making good progress on my cockpit until I came home last night and found my box and kit parts scattered on the floor. The wifes kitten was trying her hand at building I suppose. I found all of the parts except the control stick.

I suck at scratch building but it appears I have no other choice than to try to fabricate a new column for my KI-46.

Trey: Wow! Awesome! I love how she came out, esp the chipping on the underwing hinumara and the yellow leading edges.

Tigerman: All of them sound good to me. Once you get your GB up and running maybe you'll have a little more free time? Anyway, I've aready had two people ask for a 3 month extension so no big rush.

Herc: I know what you mean. The control stick and a brace for the rear of the cockpit have already vanished from my kit. I have no idea where the stuff goes. And we don't have a cat or any other pet inside the house. Seems like as soon as I open the box parts start to evaporate.

Needbeer the salt is applied over wet areas and allowed to dry then painted over . After that you can rinse/brush it away .

Found my Betty bomber that`s 98% complete on the floor when I got home from work and guess how it got there...

Are the struts also a semi-gloss? The instructions just say black, but I'm thinking maybe semi.

nope, i mean in the previous pictures the darker color you used for the under wings weather seems to create an high contrast with the rest, but now with chipping looks really great

and finally my ki-27 is fliyng to home

And your GEORGE - which brand and scale please? And the Kai version or the original?

 If you're happy with the badges please go ahead and take the one you like better. I don't think I'll do any more work on the Zero and if Bsyamato is happy with his I'm more than happy. I thought I'd post two more badges but I've had trouble with the alterations to the ones I was going to use.

I am in a quandary as to what color I should paint my KI-46. I have enough of the IJN/IJA green and want to paint it to match the box...which is a grey brown color. Do any of you have a good idea on what color it should be other than IJA Brown. I am looking at doing it Testors Military brown with a little white mixed in to lighten it. I have seen so many other built kits colors but I can't find a good color call out.

On a separate note I got the control column built. Not the best but passable I suppose. I will post pictures of my progress in the near future.

Trey, I'm shopping this weekend for a Ki-84. I see you have the Tamiya kit. Like those line drawings. The decals actually look pretty good, but I heard they fall apart easily. What does the pit look like? I see a decal for the IP? Are those home-defense markings as white as they appear? 

Eric ,I've got some a/m decals that I'll be using instead of the kit ones so no worries there. The pit is at best very bare  and lacking detail ,since this will be a closed canopy build not overly concerned with that but a a/m upgrade would be a great idea for a open canopy build. Yes the are very white

You know, the second you close up the pit, that control stick will be sitting right on your bench...

That is always how it seems to work out.

I have no doubt you willmake another of your fantastic builds. Are you on your way to ace status in this GB as well? I am envious because if I built as fast as you my stash would be decreasing in size instead of increasing in size.

Trey the Zero looks superb! the paint chipping effect worked great for you. Cant wait to see how the frank turns out! I gotta get building again. summer work has kept me away long enough!

BTW: not sure if you know but the Tamiya Ki-84 I've been told is closer to 1/50th than 1/48th.

Tamiya Ki-84 review

Probably not a big deal, I've used 1/32 and 1/35th armour together but you might want to be careful with the aftermarket decals since they may be a little large and need trimming.

Herc: I checked my reference material last night but wasn't able to find many photos of the Ki-46 other than some grainy b&w ones.

The restored plane may or may not be accurate of course. The decal instructions are from Empire City and should be pretty close though.
