Of course, I've got the Flightpath set in the post, ordered it last Saturday. Mind you I possibly won't be getting onto this bird until early to mid-2012

How about  first edition (1396?) Hurricane, I have the opportunity to buy the kit, but doubt I would make it up it's almost as old as me

Shouldn't stop you making it, as far as im concerned every kit deserves to be built. Age and rarity doesn't matter. If you that worried about it, make resin castings or vacform moulds from it.

no one start? Hmm

i start! Stick out tongue

the previous glued piece

and now continue:

The rotor head repair, i drilled the center of two pieces and put a metal wire with ca

glued , sanded and bended the blade ,the poor instruction report a wrong thing

the rotor hub need to be cut in the upper section, the last section is too tiny to fit in the hole and the rotor will too high without the cut

Dimension measuring, the scout is really little but the ka-18 is actually the smallest kit i have

don't want to put too many mods on the scout but at least some work is needed on poor detail; for now added the rotor head command arms and placed some piece at the rotor base, picked references from prime portal, here a picture of real rotor  .

that's all for the start .

(I wish I had a bench I could only use for modeling & have looking like that whenever I wanted! The wife wouldn't be too happy finding the kitchen table looking like that!!Embarrassed)

At least i have lots of rooms in my house but as you see my workbench is a large mess Surprise it's a room already filled of old things and tools left on the earth by my beloved father. I use the kitchen just on decals stage.

Some news on the scout, i'll try to not add too many pieces on this helo but some pieces is needed.

Structures added on the rotor base, and cutted all the glasses ,the original fitting was impossible without leave a millimeter between clear parts and the exterior of fuselage.

unfortunately clear parts are litter than frames and a filling with some clear will needed after.

A test fitting of main parts shows as the canopy don't fit so good fit in horrible way on the kit

if not save the original with some sanding (or not airfixing the kit by a good catapult lauch on the first wall i see) a new heatformed canopy will needed.

that's all for this

so I started looking closely at this little Spit and the first thing I noted was the over sized rivets around the engine cowlings, these will need some serious "adjustments"

The second thing is the "crop circles" on the underside of the wings, any one know what theses are supposed to be? they appear too symetrical to be merely flash/ejector pins.

I will take to the Spitfire GB to ask as well

Thanks guys

Hey Jafa.

Those rings are actually supost to represent the round inspection covers that were located to be able to inspect and maintain the inside of the wings.Theu are as usual (like the massive rivets, that is actuallt supose to be camlock screws) way overdone.

Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk9

You can just see them on my 1/72 Airfix Mk9. On the new tooling atleast they are scribed. You might lightly sand them justto take the worst "look" off, weathering will show them off then again.

Work has commenced on the classic Mk.Ia.  The wings are together, and the cockpit area has been primed.  Will shoot it with some b.i.g. when I get home from work tonight.  Did a trial fit of the fuselage to the wings and it looks like there will be some interesting fit problems.  If I wanted easy, I'd build a Tamiya kit.  For those of you building the classic kit, cut off the locating pins in the wings.  It will make your life easier.  Pics later.

Yup work has commenced on mine also, and I reached the same decision for the wings, one is pretty good, the other needs the main locator pin removed (or the gun ports become an interesting shape).

I hope to get some colour in the cockpit today, once i decide what colour it should be.

I have also removed the locator ridges on the fuselage/wing joint as they were pushing the wing out of alignment. still going to have some fun filling to do.

After a wee bit of interest in the feeler thread im posting a proper GB here with all the rules.

Lets get into it.

1. Must be an airfix kit. Can be from any time period, any tooling, as long as its branded airfix. (you can even paint up the original airfix combs if you really want, lol)

2. If you have a kit that is branded differently but is deffinatly an airfix tooling, if you can prove this i will accept it.

3. Start Date will be sept 1st 2011. This gives enough time for people to prepare.

4. End date will be Sept 1st 2012. Plenty of time to work through the more complicated kits.

5. When signing up please post Kit name and scale.

6. It can be OOB or as much AM or scratchbuilding as you desire.

Ill have a badge up before the start date.

Off we go people.

Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks to VanceCrozier we have a badge. If anyone has any special size requests feel free to ask him.

Same rules as always, save the badge to your own personal image hosting account before putting it in your signature. A completed entry is required before you may take the badge.

Well its Fathers day and the kids decided on a simple solution.....

So expect a few more Airfix kits to added to my build list if I may....

Got all the scoops on the bottoms of the wings.  Beginning to see a pattern, looks like all the guide pins are going to go as removing them seems to make life simpler.  Jafa, I was thinking about doing that on my fuselage.  I found that removing the one on the starboard side and leaving the port side alone, everything fit a little better.  Still going to need some shimming though.  Good thing is you can drop the seat and floor into the cockpit from the bottom after the fuselage is glued together.  Does anyone here know if the insides of the canopy frames were black or interior green?

For those interested in the history of Airfix's first model here's an interesting link.

http://www.sworld.com.au/steven/models/spitfire/

Cockpit is now interior green, fuselage will be together once the paint dries.

Here's some pics of the Mk.I under construction.  Having so much fun, I've busted out the Mk.IX as well.  The Mk.I will stay in Airfix's fictional scheme while the Mk.IX will be Johnnie Johnson's aircraft.

The BV141 is a nostalgia trip for me, had one about 40 years ago as a model, so keen to redo it, it is definitely on the sooner rather than later list.

The Hurricane wasn't on my wish list but the boy child (22 yr old) added it as he knew I was building a BoB Dio around the control tower and spitfire. But the Hurri comes with Irish Air Corps markings so thats going to be the scheme I run with for that.

The two Bedfords are going to get some special treatment with the QLD getting a Milicast conversion to a Bofors tractor, the QLT might stay as a "drooper" but may get some radical surgery and become a half track (depends on whether I can find a universal carrier at a reasonable price.)

So do you want me to add those builds to the list?

Hope all you dads had a great fathers day, and all those with dads made an effort.

Me and my partner cooked my dad Chicken Cabonara for dinner, then apple pie and custard for desert.

Sorted.

That scout looks fairly typical of airfix. Ends up more filler than plastic lol.

That really is a first edition spit, blue plastic and all.

That really is a first edition spit, blue plastic and all.

Actually, it's the 1979 tooling. There was a special "50th Anniversary" version of this kit issued in blue plastic in 2003, the original 1953 moulds being long gone.
