It couldn't hurt, but it's just more work for you. I am decidedly ambivalent.

That's a really nice presentation, Duster.  Very attractive.

Shameless.  But still attractive.  Wink

Everything ive found says 2004 too.

Well. thats all she wrote peoples. Does anyway want to do a competition based on their builds? I was going to post all the builds without names, get people to vote for them, and do a kit giveaway or something to the winner. What do people think?

Mr. Mikey, Mr. Mikey, Mr. Mikey
I wanna do that -and, and you'll give me a model !!! oh boy, oh boy

Be quiet ! little Billy,  he said it was a contest and the winner would get a model---not just you

oh Ok never mind...
Sorry Scorpiomikey, he gets anoying; but for me your idea sounds like a good one.
There are some really great efforts turned in should be interesting to see how the voteing goes

OOPS how did that happen??
Why, I didnt even know I had any pictures left of my entry

Hi, Alex:  through the Airfix Tribute Forum, I found the release date for the 1/72 Concorde (Airfix did a 1/144 version much earlier, in 1967).  The 1/72 kit came out only in 2004; surprising Airfix didn't get a better parts fit so recently.

One review from back then (www.andysmodels.me.uk/.../Airfix_Concorde72_001.htm) does mention "days of filling, sanding, filling, sanding."

Nevertheless, you did an excellent job with it.  You'd never know it was a "problem child" by looking at your accomplishment.

Griffin

Nice Job Alex. It's a little small though, isn't it? Stick out tongue

checkmateking02

How far back does the Concorde kit go?

Yes, I have to admit the size has posed a few problems, like finding a place to put it.Confused

I can't say how old the kit is, but I'm guessing it must be pretty old. The fit on it was terrible, never have I had to use so much filler! Strangely though, despite it being such a tricky build, I kinda want another one...

I still haven't gotten around to taking some good photos yet, but I might aswell upload the rest of the photos I took earlier. I'll try and get some nicer ones sometime next week. There is still the odd bit to do on this kit: fill in the windows, find the missing wheel and clearcote it, but for now atleast, I'm happy to call it finished. Also, big thanks to Scorpiomikey for hosting this GB, it been great to follow and participate in.

Very nice Spitfire and Concorde.  The Spit is the new (2010?) mold, so it's a great improvement over the earlier one.

How far back does the Concorde kit go?

And, yes, kudos to Mikey, for hosting the build.  It was a fun thing, and extremely enjoyable.  Got to see a lot of good models and talented modelers.

Scorpiomikey

lol dude if it takes you a couple days extra. its ok. Dont lose any sleep over it (although apparently you already have)

It nothing, I usually stay awake till around 3am on weekends anyway. Something about being a rebellious teen or something along those line. Anyway, I have gotten it finished. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to take some good photos yet, but here's a bad one anyway so you get an idea of how its turned out. I'll take some proper ones when the sun comes out.

On the subject of photo's though, does anyone have any idea's on how to take photograph's of a model this large? I might end up having to take them outside.

Griffin

Done!!!

I would like to thank you, Mike, for hosting this shindig and for everyone else for having me along for the ride. Sorry for the late completion.

This was my first completed build in over thirty years and I learned a lot from it:

  1. Airbrushing isn't as scary as I thought it would be.
  2. It takes longer to clean an airbrush than it does to paint with it.
  3. A pin-wash is likely less of a PITA than an overall oil-paint wash.
  4. Tamiya's are great for airbrushing.
  5. I used decal set and decal sol for the first time (Vallejo brand) and they worked nicely for allowing the decals to contour to the details.
  6. Pay attention to the deadlines for Group-Builds.Embarrassed
  7. Even a little bit on the weekends is enough to make me happy and to get a build done (after a while).
  8. It's fun being back into the hobby.Big Smile
  9. It feels nice to have completed a model.
  10. Leave the wheels off the landing gear until the gears are installed because they look funny when the flat part isn't actually on the bottom. AngelOops
I'm sure I learned some other things but I can't think of what they were.
Thanks again.

Looks good Griffin!  Hmm, your 10 points....

1 - nope, not scary
2 - yes, yes it does!
3 - yes, I prefer pinwashes too
4 - love airbrushing Tamiya
5 - set & sol are wonderful things
6 - deadlines? What are deadlines?!?! Embarrassed (got to finish my heinkel!)
7 - yep, even a little makes for some progress, especially when you're dealing with paint/glue that needs drying time.
8 - what's more fun than this!? Really!??!
9 - Love calling it finished & on display
10 - lol, we've all been there with a problem piece!

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Good to see you enjoyed you build Griffin, it came out great!

On my end, I wasn't able to get down to the shops to pick up some more paint due to the torrential rain. I'm taking this thing right to the deadlineStick out tongue

I got the first coat of Dullcote on her today. I'll do one more coat to take down the shine a bit and them she's done.

Got most of the Concorde painted up and looking nice, but the spray can ran out when I was painting the underside. So, I'll pick up another one tomorrow or Tuesday, and then I'm just left with the job of applying the decals.

Cheers man. Airfix kits have always been sub par up untill a few years ago. This GB has highlighted this. I think Airfix kits are great as learner kits, because if you can make one look good. Your on the way to being a good modeller.

I am still lurking around, but struggling to find time for modelling, and that spitfire is fighting me all the way, went through three sets of decals before I got a complete set to stick and now I am having canopy issues. I still hope to get it done in the next 10 days.

The B&V is sitting waiting for some paint and the god awful task of trying to mask the canopy, meanwhile I have also been working on a BF110 in 1:72 scale which has been quite delightful in comparison. That may see the light of day before month end also.

I have enjoyed the Airfix Group build and enjoyed following the posts here, even if they highlight how woefully far behind I am in build quality.

Kia Kaha Scorpiomikey you have done a great job with this group build.

Cheers
