Based on what little can be seen of the aircraft in this pic, I'd say Airfix is right.

Pilot Officer Hardy was shot down over the Channel and crashed near Cherbourg.  The damage behind the cockpit occurred when Hardy used his demolition charge to destroy sensitive electronics.  Hope this helps.

I'll have to check. At some point in late 1940 I believe the MAP directed manufacturers to standardize on one pattern. Supermarine chose "A", I believe Hawker chose "B". Not sure of the serial nr that started with.

What cockpit? Its literally a plastic bench for the pilot to sit on, thats it. There is no other internal detail.

Better fill up that space with a large pilot wearing cold-weather kit so the inside can't be seen! Wink The Mirage has ribs showing on the cockpit sidewalls, no instruments/switches etc. No control stick (or floor!). Not sure that I want to get into scratching anything at that scale, considering what will be seen once she's buttoned up. I think I may offset some control surfaces though...

Jafa, the band was required beginning December 1940. For that subject no band is correct.

Thanks for that, is the camo pattern close to accurate? given that its a "odd" serial I think it should be a "B" pattern.

Nothing wrong with the Greif bsyamato. I have it tucked away in the stash until I can sit down and spend a good amount of time on it. The Mirage was sitting in my office with a few others. If I find a few minutes at lunch or while waiting for my wife to arrive I will open up one of these little kits & do some basic work. SO this one was accidentally started before the Heinkel! Stick out tongue

Scorpiomikey - I have an update for my build!! I still plan on the He177 as I get further into fall, but I have somehow managed to start work on a Mirage F1c while on my lunch break yesterday, painting a bunch of the cockpit at home last night... I'm sick! Embarrassed

Jafa:  the color/colour scheme is accurate to the time period, August 1940.  The band was an identification aid only added after the Battle of Britain.

I have a question for everyone. I see a flightpath model being built what other kits used airfix planes in there kits?  I have some Encore models did they use Airfix or mostly Frog madels in their kits?

I'm not sure of the "geneology" of most of these kits, but I can tell you that Airfix, Heller and MPC all traded moulds around. Not sure about Encore.

bsyamato   I would like to put in my 2 cents worth to help you with the window issue. I would wet sand it the best you can with ultra fine sandpaper and what I have done is use toothpaste and qtips to polish the scratches out the rest of the way. And put future over that. I had some CA glue drip in the middle of a car windshield and run to the edge and was able to sand and polish it out and it is not visable.

many thanx for the informations mikey, but ... future... mmm ... i'm probably again on old school, but  as i read and as i see is a sort of wax for cleaning duty, i'm really fear the duration for years.. i have oldest kits coated with humbrol or model master clear coats and sure that resist more of 20 years, we are all sure about the future will resist... in future? someone have a model finished with future 20 years ago? Hmm

just found on one of my customers have some future cans at 7,5 euros.

The higher grit options wont remove any detail. they just remove the microscratches from the surface. 1000 grit is way too coarse. 

This is what i use.

10000-50000? this is not mega grit, is supernatural grit Tongue Tied.. the finest sandpaper i see till now is about 1000 and have the grain like the normal paper. Probably there used another scale to compare the grain size. I don't use future ,s not so famous in italy Sad

the main problem are the iside side , hard to reach with sandpaper. Actually two option i see

1) unglue the pieces and replace at least the bigger (..) parts with clear plastic sheet

2) try another desanding session and use more clear coat, the warning is to erase all fuselage deatails...

need to try something.

Wet sand with some mega high grit paper. i got a pack from spruebrothers which had 10000-50000 grit in it (i think) Wetsanding with that gets a high polish, you can then clear coat with future. Looking at what youve got i can still see sanding scratches in the clear bits.

Also grab a nail polishing stick, the faces on that are good for polishing clear bits.

aand the cockpit painting

after sanding the clear parts and after the gloss clear the result is not i'm expected Huh?

i'll try another layer of clear but left few hope to get a good cleared parts.

I started mine the other night too, must admit, yours looks better than mine, Its a frighteningly bad fit to the fuselage alone. I got home this afternoon and promptly went over to a hasegawa b-26 lol, so much nicer.

I used liquid cement and only glued an inch or two at a time,carefully lining up the fuselage halves.It'll still need some filling and sanding,but it's not as bad as I first thought.I might have to trim the rudder a bit.
