Oh, man...bummer.  I did the same thing to the rear deck of a Stuart once but it wasn't this serious and I was able to hide the damage with stowage.  Vowed to never force dry again.  Sorry to see all that work go to waste. It was a beautiful build.  Maybe you could incorporate it into a diorama/vignette by flipping it upside down in a ditch and it won't be a total write-off.

Come on boys, we need more finished builds. Lot's of you guys with in-progress,  so hup-two-three.

Sorry Embarrassed I too need a course in time management- I always rush though the first 75% of a build and then lose interest in the remaining 25%. Really need to finish her off.

WBILL - Must feel good to wrap up another classYes  I know what your talking about here in TX with the NFL many excited people hereBeer  Look forward to your update when it comes.

TREAD - If I remember right this is the first time with silly putty right?  Going to be nice to see her with some color on Yes  Where you still planning on having the commander?

Thank you very much for those nice words.  It's really nice to hear from someone of your abilities that you enjoyed them.  It was a lot of fun to build them here with all of you.  Maybe one day we can do something Russian together.  Have lots of early Russian vehicles that want to get done.  The two right on top of my head are the T-28 and T-35.  Love the multi-turret tanks.

BOB - How is the 109?  Really nice looking so far.

Your builds, by the way, are absolutely beautiful top shelf products....I've never looked twice at a Bren Carrier till I saw yours... outstanding workmanship !     I think I need a class in time management LOL ?

Bob,,  your 109 looks great!  One of my all time favorite aircraft and variant too...   I hope your decal problem clears up....

Marc,, Great decal sheet!   I have a bunch of AeroMaster decals, but I don't remember that one... I will have to check and see I have one in my stash...     Very nice addition to a dec-set.

Enjoy the ride!

Thanks Marc.  The wing walks are not the best of decals but they will work for this one.....my level of commitment isn't up to scraping them off, repainting and re-creating them.  However, I am curious about the stencil sheet that you mentioned?  Who is the manufacture and is it a reusable item?  I've considered putting down a coat of red, applying some thin tape strips and then applying the camo but haven't seen any templates before...of course, I've never really looked for them either.

Hi Bob.  I've had good luck peeling off decals with masking tape.  As long as your paint is well adhered the tape can usually pull up the decals.  But in the mean time if you want to leave them and use the other stencils on the sheet  I'll be happy to send one to you.  Areomaster made a sent called "Singles" of just 109E stencils.  2 smalls sheets for 4 aircraft.  PM your address to me if you want 1.

Jack-Thanks for the info.  I had checked Great Models prior to choosing the Airfix kit but that was the only E1 offering.  Like you said, I guess the Hasegawa kit is OOP.  I built the Hase E4 a few years ago and had forgotten that the exhausts were molded into the fuselage.  I just remembered the PE canopy armor shield that was a bear to get installed.  I'm not sure how the Airfix kit stacks up in the terms of 'accuracy' to the Hasegawa/Tamiya kits, but I think I would choose the Airfix kit...it's just the stencil decal thing that bugs me now.  Next time I'll trim a little closer....

Edit/Update-I applied a heavy, localized coat of Future to the wing walks with a Mircobrush last night-all is well this am.  Will test on other decals in the kit if I decide to use them at some point.  The Airfix kit comes with a Romanian E-3 on the Eastern Front that I hope to utilize someday.

Bob - your Emil is looking really good and thanks for posting the hiccups on this Airfix kit.

Hasegawa did have an  E-1 version but it's been a while so not sure of availability - I've one in my stash and can't remember how long ago it was purchased.  In a quick glance compared to Tamiya, it has a bit less wing surface detail, missing a panel line on the upper nose area and most noticeable of all is the exhausts are molded as part of the fuselage.

regards,

Jack

Bob she looks real nice with the markings.  If your wing walks etc don't work out and you can get them off i have a stencil sheet that I may never use.  Yours in'f y'all want it.

Thanks all....it's always nice to have the decals on....getting close to completion.

Satch-yes, it is the Airfix kit.  Kit has it's pros & cons-

Pros-able to build an E1, E3 or E4/7 out of the box.  The fit was exceptional-minimal use of filler, except along the top of the fuselage-slight 'overlap' of fuselage halves.  All of the ailerons, elevators, leading-edges and rudder are separate parts. And the price was right.

Cons-Interior detailing is sparse but nothing that some spare plastic and wire wouldn't fix.  And with a closed canopy, no one will ever know.  All of the ailerons, elevators, leading-edges and rudder are separate parts-a slight mismatch on the rear elevator that should have been addressed but wasn't.  Also makes painting the splinter scheme a bit more challenging.  The ability to make 3 different version means some plugs for the wing gun area....not a bad thing but just another area to fill & sand.  And the same issue is in the Hasegawa kits.  I'm not happy with the kit decals.  Although I used AM decals, I had to use the Airfix decals for some of the standard stencils, i.e., wing walk stripe, etc.  The carrier film is 'cloudy' and I had hoped that the Solveaset would resolve the issue....didn't.  Just added a second coat-we'll see.  If not, hopefully coat of flat will resolve the concern.

Overall, it's been a relatively painless build and I would choose the kit over the Tamiya/Hasegawa alternatives unless the pricing was equal.  And this is the only E1 kit in 1/48 that I know of and the ability to mix E1/E3/E4 parts gives you the ability to make some of the 'one offs' that are quite common in this series.

Good to have you back Tread and the Char is looking good.

Here's an update-decals are on....for the most part.  Main decals are from an Aeromaster set for the Attack in the West.  The Aeromasters were thin and set well....for the most part...with some Solve-a-set.  I had to use the Airfix kit decals for the wing walk and some of the stencils....not sure how those are going to turn out...the carrier film has a 'frosted' appearance to it.  They are taking a Solve-a-set bath and then they get a coat of Future before the oil wash.

Hope to Future tomorrow and maybe the oil wash early in the week....still have to Future the canopy, mask & paint....just for the record, I hate masking canopies....

Bob: Great job on that complex splinter camo! It's such a pain to mask but it looks so good.

Tread: Good to see you back. Looking forward to seeing some paint slapped on your Char B1. All those extras you added are going to look awesome. Kinda wish I'd added more to mine but I was more interested in painting all the crazy camo.
