Thanks tread! Good question on the diesel supply issue...one of many supply issues that plagued the German anytime they used captured gear. Diesel probably wasn't that hard to come by but would have been a "special" need for whatever unit was equipped with these for sure.

Nice job Shell.. the only thing I would change is the addition of  the word 'IN' ... I would put it in very small letters between 'Blitz'  and "France'

PANZERBOB01 - Have not opened my initial production Kleiner yet so have not yet drooled on the sprue's yet.  If it was to be built with the cupola, it does come with the kit, would it then be appropriate for this GB or are there other issues also?  You mention the road wheels and idler rings are they missing?

CARL - Think thats a nice looking badge, like the colors and the fact that the big three are all represented.

I hadn't looked to see whether this kit comes with a cupola - frankly, I was thinking of the flat-top as pictured on the box... pretty much why I bought it!  Still, if there is a cupola - I would guess you would be OK for this GB, seeing as a retrofitted early production should be viable as an in-service vehicle still in 1940 - but of course this is only my considered opinion.

About the road wheels...  OK. Here's the story: Dragon has produced several kits based on the Pz.1B chassis... the first 4 or so (Pz. 1B, Pz. 1B "DAK version", Kleiner, and Kleiner 3-in-1) all shared a set of older-style road-wheel sprues created for that chassis. These provided 10 road wheels.  Mr. D then put out the Pz.1A "modified" with interior SmartKit...  This little gem came with MagicTracks and a new type of road wheel that features little brass add-on trim rims to better emulate the structure of those roadies...  D created a new "Pz. 1A" road-wheel sprue with the correct 8 roadies for Pz.1A.  Then, the D started out the gate with a new series of Pz.1B variants... two panzerjager-4.7cm kits, the s.IG 33 auf Pz.1B, the CyberHobby panzerjager 1B with 7.5cm Stuk 40, and a new Flakpanzer 1A premium SmartKit...  all of which also feature these new roadies with brass rings...

But wait.  IF it's a Pz.1A kit (the mod, or the new Flakpanzer 1A), one Pz.1A roadie sprue is sufficient...  But to get the 10 Pz.1B road wheels, Mr. D did NOT make a new 10-wheel sprue, but simply puts 2 of the new 8-wheel Pz.1A sprues in... so you get 16 roadies when you need only 10!  And so they have for all of those new Pz.1B variant SmartKits... all but this "Kleiner Initial production".  Somehow, they goofed, and put only 1 Pz.1A sprue in - along with only sufficient rings for that one sprue. Which leaves you short 2 roadies and 4 rings (2 per wheel).  Now, the D is actually pretty good about his mistakes - and so if you buy one of these deficient little panzer kits, they will, via DragonCare.com, pretty cheerfully and promptly send you a new Pz.1A roadie sprue, and another 4 rings!

That's the deal.  PS: maybe I shouldn't say this, but if you do happen to have other new Pz.1B SmartKits, you will have extra new-type roadies.  But you will still be short those brass rings...  so get them from DragonCare.

It is called - -   AFV Collection Number 1.     Panzer I, The beginning of a dynasty.     By Lucas Molina Franco. AF Editons.

If you like the little pz I, this book is great!   There are 48 color profile plates among other color plates as well. Loads of good b/w pics and the "reads" are to the point and not over-techno'd.

I know a couple of us (in this GB) are building variants,,,  Nachtflieger and Shellback

I don't remember where I picked mine up but I did see it on Amazon for $16.95 ........

to but badges on the computer you have to post them on Photobucket/Flikr right?

Hi Carl,,,  quite welcome of course!         And, I agree, that ambulance version really stirs my "what if I" juices.   There's many other plates that step outside the normal grey / brown / green spectrum.   And a number of them coordinate with the 1940 French campaign......

Be careful which ones you ascribe to the 1940 time period and France in particular. The Pz I-A saw service with the Spanish in their Civil War (some of the schemes in the plates are theirs) and also a few were sold to the Chinese. When dealing with color plates, some caution is always required as they are artist's interpretations and aren't necessarily a guarantee from an accuracy standpoint. The Pz I had a very long service history despite it's physical/armament limitations.

Carl, I really like the addition of the lightning bolts to your badge. I guess I'm still kind of wishing for the Eiffel Tower, but I don't think it'll work in your badge. That's okay, it's more of a symbol of  Paris, then France itself.

Once we choose our badge, I will download it to the first page, where everyone will be able to find it when they conclude their build.

That book loos really cool. I love lots of line drawings. Does this author do any other vehicles?

What about the ambulance Pz.1 as pictured in Bills book ? would that be a valid vehicle for this G.B. WBill ?

No photo shop ? Wow ! Even my old windows 98 had a program .Hmmmm , or maybe i downloaded a program when i boughtmy digi camera onto the 98 .................. 

The "ambulance" looks like a standard kleiner Befehls I-B with a red cross pennant added to the aerial and a red cross emblem added to the hull side. There wasn't a specific variant created for that purpose and for 1940 the scheme it "should" have is the same as a standard Befehls...panzer gray and dark brown, so what the color plate depicts is partially suspect IMHO.

Here's my badge guys. This is my very first one so don't make fun of me!

The dark red represents the German positions near the end of the French campaign.

That's interesting Modeler#1. Kind of reminds me of some of those World at War maps where they show swastikas and then large arrows where they attack. Hmmmmmmm. I wonder if you can put some tiny panzers driving West in there with an arrow heading to the coast? Or am I just way off?
