Hi guys :  )

remember me ?Whistling

Man o man the Nor' Easter we had blowing through Ct. last Sat. was devastating !

Pati & I have been on generator power for about 1 week .The Power came on a day ago, but the storm and trees had damaged the dishes at ComCast ... just came back on.. also the cell towers were damaged so we had no phone till recently.

In our area , shelters are all still up and active. We are (were)  the 1% ers with out power because it is mountainous where we live..... Anywhooo....I haVE a lot of catching up to do !

Everyones work has progressed so far !..... I haven't  read the whole weeks worth yet, but I will tonight when I have time.  Stop & Shop is now open and since we had to throw out all our food..(.my main output line on my generator took a crap and I didn't have the wattage to power the fridge ), we gotta go shopping and I  have a lot of firewood to cut and stack this afternoon.... I am dying to do some work on my char... lotsa more little details to make !

so talk to you guys soon, it's , nice to be back with the humans!Wink

back on line,

treadCool

Thanks but I was just thinking that technically, it 's really not within the time frame of the actual battle.  Those 2 images are from the days just after the battle.  Both epitomizing the feeling of the outcome.

Marc, cool badge. Famous shot of the Frenchman weeping and Hiter jigging.

Boy, sure glad I'm not voting. Wink

Yeah Carl,,,,   smashingly clever!

wBill,,,  thanks         I still consider it a very nice set (Verlinden), but a bit amiss in some areas. Much better than scratch however.    Another thing about these sets (for me anyway),,,  they give me an idea of how to scratch should I wish to add some accessories to an alternate build.

Enjoy the ride!

A new G.B. idea ................complete building your model , take a few pics , melt it , smash it and then take a few more pics .........................Whistling

Thats the part i dont like , stopping to clean off the tip . I use a cotton swab soaked in lacquer thinner to clean the tip on my Badger 150 . Thats a pain when you try to go back and match a demarcation line on camo .Super Angry

Satch, sounds like you're making good progress! Yes

Bill, Nice work on the interior. Sometimes Verlinden stuff needs some tweaking to make it all work out.

Carl,,     thanks,,   the adjusments weren't too far over the top, so they still end up in close proximity to the actual item.    And, I just noticed your "Panzer Disaster" badge / logo,,,, HA!,,   cracked me up.        Speaking of badges, I do like your latest version,,, nicely done.

Eric,,   much obliged,     I agree, getting back to this build is a good thing!

Marc,,    double schwing,,,, HA,,, good one,   and thanks!

Enjoy the ride!

Hey, great work all around guys!!!

I like both badges though I find the dancing Fueher disturbing for some reason Stick out tongue

And I think BlitzGreg would be a really cool forum name if your real name were Greg.

BTW: Karl do I have to smash a kit to get one of those cool Panzer Disaster badge? Bang Head

I've never had any big problems airbrushing Tamiya. If I'm spraying really small fine detail like ink blot camo the paint will dry on the tip but I just screw off the tip and use my thumb and forefinger to pinch off the dried paint. Frankly I've tried using enamel for detail work and find it seems to dry almost nearly as fast. Although I tend to use Testor's Model Master Acrylic over either Tamiya or enamel paint since the LHS stock it and it is much better for hand-brushing.

Bill you get a double Schwing for that interior... SCHWING, SCHWING!

Tim, I will be trying that today.  You don't say what you thin with but since I already have a batch thinned with lacquer thnner I iwll give that a go.

The blue and green on the turret are Vallejo.  And now that I think of it, to keep the over spray to a minimum that was prayed at a similar setting to what he camo was done at and it went down smooth as silk without any tip dry at all. Great, I am going to need a new hobby room just for my paint.

I added the rest of the GB info and a dancing Hitler to my badge entry..

I use Tamiya acrylic thinner, X-20A, to thin their paint then add a few drops of the flow improver and retarder.

I like your badge design with Hilter doing his jigg.

There has been some awesome work in this group build. I really like the Verlinden interior.

Carl, I too like version A and it has nothing to do with the correct spelling of Blitzkrieg. Whistling

Marc, very nice camo scheme. I have no idea why I was so anti-French armor all these years. They had some cool stuff.

Thats the French spelling isnt it ??????? Stick out tongue

I used Tamiya.  Just started making the swicth form enamels to acrylics because of the broader weathering possibilities with oils.  This is the 1st free hand camo I've done wit the Tamiya and I was having a hell of a time getting it to spray.  Kept getting dry tip or tip drying, or whatever the correct terms is.  And not sure how to combat that so it's off to the paint forum for a little Q/A.

With Tamiya paints, I use a flow improver and a retarder when I airbrush it. I made the flow improver out of 1 part Future and 5 parts Distilled Water. The retarder is from Hobby Lobby, the Liquitex Slo-Dri Blending Gel.

I put a couple drops of each in with the thinner paint to airbrush. So far I have not had a tip drying problem.

My apologies,,,  I have been a bit laxed in my posts,,,,    not since page 92, 10/27   almost 8 days ago,,  yikes!  ,,,    BUT I have been keeping track.      There is SO much good stuff going on.  I don't want to miss anybody, so suffice to say - all inspiring work for sure,,  everyone!

I've made some progress on the command pz I,,,,   interior-wise that is

So the Verlinden interior set is nice,,      the fit is about 5.5 on a 1 to 10 scale,,  not bad bad,, but not the best. Some things need a bit of snipping and sanding to get them, somewhat, right.

I primed and painted all the items and then finagled  them into position. A bit of detail painting, washing, and highlighting          then some burnt umber "stain", and it is beginning to take shape.

While I don't want to harp on the interior set (as it is pretty good), some of the suggested positioning would simply not have worked.,,,   so, I took a bit of license and am making it work .

It is taking shape,,,,

and I am starting on the interior, upper hull portion

I am hoping to keep as many hatches open as possible for interior viewing,,,   I'm also pretty sure this interior effort will turn out fine.....  While this isn't an exiting bit of posting,,   I am happy to be back in the mix, as it were. This weekend will be much better than the last, so I am planning to get quite a bit of work done on this little command pz I.

Thanks,   As always,,,,  all comments welcome                Hope you like the few pics..........

Bill

Enjoy the ride!

Satch ..................It Probably would be better for retarding the drying of the paint on the tip if the retarder was mixed in the air brush paint  bottle before spraying .Yes

I haven't mixed the retarder in the paint, just dab it on the tip.  I think you can mix it in.

Vallejo paints are the way to go vs Tamiya.  The bottle makes it so easy to drop the exact amount of color in your airbrush.  Vallejo also makes a retarder to use with acrylic paints that solves the dry tip problem.  I just dab a little on a small brush and swab the tip of your airbrush occasionally.

I have heard that about Vallejo paints . So you still swab the tip even after mixing the retarder in their paint ?

I only had one day home between trips but it was productive.  I'm up to Bill's 17 Sep blog entry on my Pz IV.  Just to go his blog to see what mine looks like...  Yeah... Right...

This is by far the most challenging build I've ever done.  It goes together well so it's not challenging in that respect.  Just the sheer complexity and level of detail is amazing.  To think I got it for under $30.

Marc , good luck getting the dry tip problem figured out with the Tamiya . Thats been my major problem with Tamiya and MM acrylics .I've read and tried the different methods of solving that problem and have not had a satisfactory resolve of that problem . All the more thumbs up for the results you got with your Tamiya camo .YesYes
