Ernest - Yes, XF-61 dark green appears to be a viable choice.  Mind you, Tamiya also uses this same green for RAF aircraft camou.  In Zaloga's book he briefly mentions this colour was provided to the troops in paste form.   So this might explain some of the different intensities of this shade seen in photos.   Starmer's website also reveals that an actual example of Dark Green G4 has yet to be found.  His recipe for Revell colours is based on tonal appearance in photos.

Khaki Green G3 - yes, Starmer also has olive green comprising 50% for this mix, along with fern green and leather brown.  Is your mixture  from this entry from Missing-lynx forum? (also a G4 recipe).  So yes, looks like you are good to go.

Jack

Eric, tread, Jack, Gamera - thanks guys!  Its been an interesting model to build, and I'm looking forward to getting the camo on her!

Jack, thanks for the camo info!  Very interesting, but also a little confusing.  The colors described between the two sites don't match so I'm left to form my own conclusions.  Tamiya XF-61 (Dark Green) does seem to be a good match for Dark Green G4, so I'll go with that.    I also found a tip on the web to mix Tamiya XF-62 (Olive Drab) with XF-59 (Desert Yellow) in a 3/2 ratio to get match the Khaki Green G3.  I tried it and it seems to be a pretty good color to contrast with the Dark Green.  I also found that Lifecolor UA221 (Khaki Olive Drab) comes pretty close to the color of the Tamiya mix, although a little lighter in tone.

I really like how the camo colors look with Steve Zaloga's build:  http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/britain/a13cruisersz_1.html  The lighter color must be the Khaki Green and seems pretty light compared to the Dark Green.  What do you think?

Hey guys, thanks!

Tim: The Panzer II looks great. Love the faded camo and the rain streaks.

Earnest and Greg: Great work guys, love to see the model when it finally comes together from all the little plastic bits in the box.

Bang Head

Question:  Does anyone have any recommendations as to what Tamiya acrylic colors come close to the "Dark Green G4" and "Khaki Green G3" listed on the painting instructions?  On one site I checked out a modeller painted it Tamiya Olive Green XF-58 for the Dark Green and what looked like Flat Green for the Khaki Green...seemed a bit bright to me!

Mike Starmer has done some in depth research for British AFV colours, good read here: http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/Starmer%20camo.htm in which he gives suggestions for Revell mixes.

Another miniatures site http://www.miniatures.de/camouflage-british.html
If you take their info and cross reference the Humbrol colours to match Tamiya via ipmsStockholm charts, this is the result:
Khaki Green No.3 B.S.381  =  Hu no.30  =  Tamiya XF-61*
Dark Green No.4 B.S.381    =  Hu no.75  =  Tamiya XF-11*

*Note this is just info from the net and I haven't tried those colours myself.

Also the Humbrol 75 is labelled matt bronze green and I have read somewhere this was a post war colour.

Jack

Ooh!  Another Pz. II!  Looking good Greg!  You don't need to tell me about little parts and big fingers!!Bang Head

I just gave the A13 a primer coat using Tamiya Fine Gray Primer from the rattlecan!  Should be able to base color in couple of hours.

I'll bet those tracks were fun. The smaller they are, the more involved they are. They look great Ernest and like you said, a little glue will take care of the sag.

Nice looking Pz. II Tim!  I like the two-tone camo pattern which would be appropriate for this time frame!

Update on the Bronco A13:

Assembly finally done!  YAY!!  Well, except for a few items that will go on after painting (fender dust shields, mirror, spotlight) and several tiny wing nuts that I'll add right before primer otherwise I'll knock the little suckers off!

Some detail shots:

These tiny little tracks nearly killed me!  120 per side and the two types of links were a bear to deal with!  Still they look quite nice with the track sag and all!  For some reason the tracks don't want to sit down on the wheels, but a little glue at  the end should fix that!

Primer tomorrow morning, followed by camo and decals!  I'm gunning for that Wednesday end date!

Gamera- I really like they way you camo that French plane and the panel lines look fine to me. I kind of like darker panel lines. The underside looks awesome with the streaking and dark panels lines. Very good work.

Well, I got a little work on my panzer II done the last few weeks. Between building jigsaw puzzles with my daughter and catching up the last season of "Fringe", not much has been happening.

Here are some in-progress photos. I did a dot filter and then did some rain/grim streaks all with oils.

Still working on the figure, did a little dry drying and now to do the details on the body and the head.

Enjoy the weekend.

DP Andy: Thanks, though I think I may have overdone the panel lines somewhat.

Boyd: Looking forward to your photos, always thought the 222 was a sleek looking vehicle. The figures sound great- love seeing figures posed with an AFV to give an impression of just how big/small the vehicle is and better put her in context.

Hey guys

Just wanted to give a quick update, though I can't offer any pics right now.

The 222 is done. Just have to add some decals (I'm marking it as a member of the 7th Panzer Division "The Ghost Division" under Rommel). and then some weathering. I'm going to be real basic in the weathering for now - just a couple washes and filters for now. Then when I put it on a base, I'll do some weathering that is more specific for the setting - but that won't get done for this GB.

Currently I'm focusing on building up and painting a couple of figures to go with it, so that is where my focus will be this weekend. I'll try to have some 'final' pics of you by Sunday.

Thanks Eric. Looking back at them I'm thinking another reason I didn't post them is I was going to take some clearer photos Confused

And yeah she came out of the whole twin-engine heavy fighter fad that also gave birth to the Bf110.

Ditto Greg. I'm try to compile all the finished builds to present to the armor forum. I should have done that at the start for I had to go through a lot of pages. Hopefully it will work.

BTW: Just to be posting something I found these photos on my PhotoBucket account, don't think I ever posted them to the aircraft forum since I wasn't totally happy with the model. I loved how the paint came out but after finishing noticed several constuction flaws I should have corrected.

Anyway she is a Battle of France subject - being a French Air Force Potez 631 night fighter. The French produced a number of versions of this airframe as a heavy fighter, light bomber, and ground attack. All were hampered by smaller engines being used than the original design making the 630 and 631 slow and sluggish - easy prey for maurading Bf109s. The night fighter was even more ineffective since radar light and small enough to fit inside weren't developed until later in the war. The Potez 631 relied on ground crew with searchlights to spotlight German aircraft. It didn't work very well for the British, Germans, Soviets, Japanese, or the French.

Thanks for the bumps guys, if I ever get my friggin' camera back I'll post some photos of the little H38.

I'm starting to run into some problems now, the upper and lower hull parts don't seem to fit that well though it may be my fault. Using lots of rubber bands and clothes pins.

Good luck. At $10, it seems worth the risk.

My Dragon Jagdtiger tracks were a dream to put together, but again, that one extra link might have made a big difference on installation. Hinsky gave me the tip.

Ouch, thanks for the head's up Eric. So far I've just been cleaning them up and tossing them into a small empty paint bottle. I've only glued together a short run of about dozen together just to test the fit and mine didn't fit very well either.

Since Hobbyboss has an aftermarket set for about ten bucks maybe I shouldn't even fool with them. Still I figure I'll give the kit tracks a whirl and if they don't work there's always the aftermarket alterative.

I'm not even sure that children would help in this manner. they just wanted to keep buckling on me. I made the mistake of not adding an extra link and then it tightened up at the end, so I had issues when they broke after installation.

Ernest, you now feel the pain of my H-39 tracks. Minute and they didn't connect all that well either.

Yeah, I've started some work on the H38 tracks.

GRRRR, FINGERS TOO BIG!!!!! Angry

I think I need to get a sweatshop going of small children with tiny fingers to help me...
