Really nice builds everyone has going on here.  Thanks for having me!

TheWildChild:  Sorry to hear about the injury, I hope you make a speedy recovery.  I like that you got back to the line though.  The "skill players" can think what they want, but the games won in the trenches!   I had my share of breaks and sprains way back when I played football, so I feel your pain.  The wrist I broke still acts up now as I'm getting older lol.

Well anyway, here's where I'm at so far.   This the first model I've attempted in about 15 years.  Here's the fuselage so far.  It was a bit warped so I ended up just cutting off the locator pins and then cementing and clamping in sections.  Everything seems to come out flush.   Still have some more filling and sanding to do:

Here's the cockpit I've been painting.   Its the first time I've ever tried to add any details to the instruments/buttons/panels etc.  I'm liking how the details on the various switches and knobs came out but the display screens have been a point of frustration.  I've tried to "fix" them twice now and they keep looking a bit worse.   I think I'll just stop and remember what not to do I'm my next build lol:

Finally, here's my one bit of annoyance so far.  Do they really need to put their copyright in raised lettering on the model itself?  Nothing a hobby knife and some sanding won't take care of, but still:

I'm definitely having fun so far.   I'd almost forgotten how much fun this hobby is, more so now that I'm actually trying to take my time and do a decent job.     I picked up an airbrush and compressor and been practicing a bit in between working on the kit.  Hopefully I'll be able to do it justice when the time comes.   I've also been putting together my "I wish I had these tools" list as I go.  After holding the cockpit up to my nose with a toothpick with a drop of paint, some sort of magnifier is definitely on my list.

Well anyway looking forward to following everyone's builds and learning a thing or two!

Tulkas, if you don't mind my asking, but what paint did you use on those CRT displays?  That's a nice, spicy bright green... 

sub revolution: Plus, Il2s were armored, so they could absorb more punishment than other aircraft, (this made them slow, but very hardy) and given the fact that most (if not all) Russian equipment of the period was crude or quickly put together.

Dre: Its some testors gloss green, the stuff in the 1/4 ounce bottles. From sometime in the 90s. Was one of the few bottles left in my old box of paints that was still good.

It's a bright green that I can see some use for, I'll look at it in the shop tomorrow, thanks.

I've been lurking for a little bit and I think it's time to jump in.  I'll do a 1/48 Tamiya P-51B loaded out with bazooka tubes and a pair of 250 lb bombs.

Good luck with the injury Logan.  High school football wasnt too kind on me (broken wrist, torn ACL, dislocated shoulder) but I wouldn't trade those times for anything.

Tulkas- Thats right, won and lost in the trenches for sure. the game comes down to blocking and tackling, the bread and butter of the linemen.

awesome lookin builds guys! cant wait to get back at it again! im using my forced down time to clean out my spares box and renew my paint selection (still have a few bottles of paint from when i was about 7 or 8 i havent even tried getting the lids on some of my ancient testors enamel bottles open yet......not looking forward to it either lol. plus im gonna thin the stash down a bit....kinda losing interest in cars, and a family friend of ours has a handicapped child that is starting to build, so i think i found a pretty good place for them. my aircraft and armor kits are getting rediculous too (i have almost 20 planes alone) and i just ordered another kit that ive been drooling over for a while...anybody else seen the Hobby Boss 1/35 M1070 Tank Transporter? its on its way as i type this. $145 is the most ive ever dropped for a single kit (no paint or anything included) but from what ive seen its well worth it (especially since its over $200 everywhere else ive seen it) it should keep me occupied for a long time after im done with my racecar/derby cars and the aircraft for this gb.

i havent even tried getting the lids on some of my ancient testors enamel bottles open yet......not looking forward to it either lol.

Last year I came across some old Testors bottles my dad had back in the day (they styill have the 59 cent price sticker on them) and they opened up no problem and the paint was good too

I find the old, (even new) cheap Testors stuff as being mostly pigment, and causing lots of trouble. Their decal applicator solution is good thou. I still have some bottles stowed somewhere, lol.

Going on 10+ days and I've been steadily working on these resin pieces as time permits and I'm still nowhere near finished.  A bit more paint, some weathering, the seatbelts, the rudder pedals and finally the control sticks and I'll call these done...

Anyone know where I can score some 1/32 Soviet flight helmets and oxygen masks??

their spray paint seems to be very hit and miss.....some cans (the fast drying laquer in particular and olive drab) lay down great and spray just fine, but it seems that their gloss colors (even when shaken fro several minutes) seem to coagulate and splatter.

By the way, I have another plane I am wondering I can enter as well. Its a Italiari Caprioni CA. 331 in 1/72. The box says that it was a scout plane and as a secondary role it was used as a ground- attack plane. Is this bird applicable? Thanks-

Yeah. That's my Tamiya Viper in the background. Also back there is the dreaded Revell Tomcat. That one is on hold till I feel crazy enough to get back to it.

Hi all, I was given a "box of bits" that turned out to be a very old Revell 1/40 (odd scale) AD1 Skyrader by the looks of it.

The first owner thought it a "fun" idea to cut off every piece from the sprues and chuck them loose into a box!

Can I join?

Ok, some progress.  I've pretty much cleaned up the fuselage seams and re scribed the panel lines.  I'm not posting pics of it cause it doesn't look all that different from the first pics.

Here's some work on the ejection seat.  First is the base kit seat.  Second is the kit seat with some masking tape harnesses.  Third is a True Details seat:

Obviously, the resin seat is the best but I have two of them and I also have a F/A-18F model. So I'm debating wether or not to save them for the other model.

Landing gear has been assembled.  What I did was glue the actuators onto the struts and then loosely set that whole part into the wheel well so that it would dry in the correct position.  I did this with a previous Hase Superhornet and it worked well:

And here are the A to A weapons.  I'm I allowed to post these in the Ground Attack GB thread?  I'm still trying to figure out what the final A to G load out will be.

And the wheels without any weathering:

Currently the "typical" loadout for a Super Bug is a centerline drop tank and sometimes on the very inboard pylons. The bombs would be 1-2 JDAMS and/or LGB. A targeting pod on the left cheek station and two AIM-9X Sidewinders on the wingtips. And of course this varies with the misson as well.

Got some work to do on the wing joins. Big gaps top and bottom.

Don't worry about it too much! The school year is almost over, besides, I am also busy, but not with schoolwork!

Unfortunately I haven't had much free time lately to make much in the way of progress.  I did the get the panels for the nose landing gear wells painted (and finally got to paint something other than an old milk jug with my airbrush).

I am finally back at my bench after a 2-month hiatus.  When I last left my Dragonfly I had slapped a coat of future on the seats and cockpit in prep for the wash......FIgure 2 months is enough time to let Future cure.  Put the wash on this evening and will throw a coat of flat on tomorrow.  Pics soon.

Hi guys, I am having one heck of  a time with this Revell Ad1 :-(

The undercart looks nothing like the reference pix I have and I can just not figure it out.

I want to ghange my entry from the AD1 (might try it later again) to a 1/72 Hobbyboss MiL 24 V Hind D that will be in Angolan or Mozambique AF sceeme.

Theuns, a Hind?  Now that's ground attack with purpose!

I've been busy painting, painting, and still more painting. I used a light warm grey for the interior spaces that aren't that odd Russian Blue/Green color.

A few rough shots of color in the fuselage and detail work in the exterior wheel wells.

Exterior wells detail..  still needs washing.

the front wheel well.. this too needs washing.

the rear wheel well sections that are contained within the nacelles, needs to be washed as well.

and now the finished engines and intake trunks inside the nacelles.  The intakes had the required nasty seams running the length of them and rather than trying to fill them with putty or lose the rivet detail to heavy latex, I used very thin round plastic stock to fill them in.  They aren't accurate, but they are cleanly done and otherwise look better than the ditches.

how they look closed up- not a lot left to look at.

and of course, a little more progress in the cockpit- the painting of these parts is finished- no more.  But I still need to do the belts and then the IP's and the IP shrouds and wash all of it.

I still need to do up the avionics bay parts before I can close up the fuselage, but I can now go ahead and close up the nacelles and start getting my mind ready for some long, tedious nights of polishing out seams and mistakes- ugh.
